The unit provides a choice of sixteen preamp voicings designed for electric and acoustic guitars, keyboards, bass guitars, drums, vocals, etc. It is also equipped with an output limiter, to prevent distortion to the output signal. A dedicated low cut filter eliminates unwanted noise.

Phantom power and a 20dB pad are provided for utmost flexibility, plus a vintage-style VU meter enables precise level indication. Long-term reliability is enhanced with high-quality potentiometers and illuminated switches. Comments about Behringer MIC800 Preamp:

I am putting together a simple home studio to do voiceovers and audio books, and to be honest, the Behringer mic pre was not my first choice. But some needed car repairs cost more than expected, suddenly shrinking my budget.

I thought the idea of having a VU meter was cool, as some mic pre's have only a few LEDs; some just one LED to indicate presence of signal, plus one to indicate clipping. Some have no level indication whatsoever. I found that the meter is not properly damped to provide a true VU indication, but still, an analog indicator is what I grew up with, and I like it.

What I especially like is the continually-variable high-pass filter. Now THAT is COOL! Most pre's don't even have a HPF, and the ones that do allow you to turn it off or turn it on. That's it. My RTA shows some A/C rumble around 50 Hz when it is on, and being able to dial in the exact rolloff frequency to attenuate that noise is really helpful.

I also find the phase-reverse switch to be useful, but haven't had time to really experiment with the tube-modeling modes to find the one that suits my voice best.

I think that this is a dandy little unit, especially for the price, and I'm glad I bought it.

I used it with my Audio-Technica AT2020. It makes the vocal warmer, clear and better. However the mic connector of XLR is a bit lose. Other than that it's an amazing product with less expensive.

            Comments about Behringer MIC800 Preamp:

I picked this up to use with some condenser mics (MXL, and AT) and I've very impressed with the sound. If you want to colour the sound it will, but it also can do a great job a just powering the mic and letting audio through.

The adjustable low-cut filter is great to remove low-end rumble, and the phase-reversal switch has come surprisingly handy as well.

The modeling is useful, and it does seem to being some warmth to the signal when you want it to. Th VU meter is a nice touch at this price, and it looks nice. Also, I find it very quiet in the signal chain, no huge hiss added to the sound.

My only issue with this is how it weighs almost nothing. Not a horrible thing by any means, but it does mean that a heavy cable or two will move this thing around. I'll probably velcro it onto a rackmount shelf to keep it from hopping around.

In summary, if you need a preamp, and this is in your budget, you should be pleased with this.

              Comments about Behringer MIC800 Preamp:

I use this product as a microphone pre amp for an audio technica 2035 microphone. I have a radio show where I play pre-recorded skits and faux advertisements - think of GTA's radio shows.
This device has worked splendidly for my purposes, I get clean audio and it sounds professional.

I have used more expensive equipment when recording sound in the field for movie and documentaries, and honestly this sounds just as good. It's all about the end product, and not the tools - this device gets you there for cheap.

The only con would be that it is made in China - but not to say the quality really suffers, it's a high quality factory supported and monitored by the Behringer Company.

                Comments about Behringer MIC800 Preamp:

I needed a little more level from an RE27 in a audio booth. This feeds the audio board without cranking the gain and adding noise. We don't specialize in audio production but this works great for quick voice overs.

                Comments about Behringer MIC800 Preamp:

I use the pre as a handy level monitor and phantom power source for my condenser mic. It has a dial full of nice preset eq settings that give a great start to a final mix. You can always take away high and low frequencies from a mix but this allows you to eliminate floor rumbles in an instant and add subtle clarity that lets the source shine crystal clear. VERY QUIET!!!! VERY HAPPY!!!!

                  Comments about Behringer MIC800 Preamp:

The MIC800 is easy to learn and quick to set-up. I own a small in-home studio that I keep rather dark. I found the lights on this unit (especially the blue meter) to be very fun to look at in my little studio. As pre-amps go, it is crystal clear. I have used it on vocals, keyboards, guitars, bass, drums, and drum machines. The modeling control is well labeled and really helps to find the optimum sound. I would encourage any one with a home studio (or even a commercial facility) to have one of these units on hand. It's really great!

I bought a new kcm ribbon mic and couldn't get anything out of it. I have preamps on my tascam 2488 recorder and on my mackie 1402-vlz3. Could barely hear it when it was cranked. Put this preamp on it and it now it pegs the meters. Great preamp for the money. Smooth sounding and great flexibility.

I use the mini-mic800 for phantom power and limiter for my audio technica AT 4033 condensermike for vocals and I also use some of the mic modeling effects when I plug-in guitar thru it for recording. The adjustable low cut is quite useful when recording an acoustic guitar to take out thebass overtones and give a cleaner sound for thefinal mixing. The output level meter also makes it very easyto keep from overdriving the final recording. I've only had it for a couple of weeks, so I don'tknow about it's durability----but for me, it onlyjust sits in my studio and is turned off and onwith a master switch----so I'm sure there is verylittle that could go wrong with it---except internal electronic failure---and so far that hasn't happened. It does exactly what I wanted it to do---andthe price was right. Better price at B&H thanany of the others.I guess you could spend more but I don't knowwhat it would do that this one doesn't do.[...]
