I bought my merlin used, and the seller had apparently lost the original mounting screw and had replaced it with a screw from the local hardware store. I figured it'd be worth attempting to go with something closer to the original equipment, so I purchased this screw. This screw from steadicam doesn't hold the camera in place any tighter than the generic screw I had been using, but I do like that its slot is large enough to allow it to be tightened using a coin.

I misplaced this screw for my SteadiCam Merlin and figured I could use a typical household screw I had in my toolbox.....NOT!!!!! Because of the design, you are forced to use a flush/flathead screw so the mount for your receiver plate will adapt to your Merlin. I did however find the same screw at my local hardware store for $0.29 and I bought a dozen of them. The only downfall, the screw I bought was about .75mm to long and I had to cut them down and shave off the sharp edges. They work great now!!!!!

Exactly what I needed, and cheap. This is the screw for the baseplate to attach to the camera.

If you have a Merlin steadicam, you already know how important this little piece of magic is. Shipped quick too. It did arrive in a 11x17 envelope which i still don't understand but, very happy with this purchase.

Comments about Steadicam 8017436 Replacement Camera Mounting Screw:
The Stedicam Merlin (and we have the vest/arm upgrade) all comes down to this one screw. If you have it you are in business, if you don't you aren't. A team member turned in this rig missing the screw and a hunt around town at hardware suppliers was a bust...it has a shallow head that fits into the mounting plate and no one locally had a suitable screw. So while it seems pricey for a screw -- without it your expensive rig is screwed. Buy several to have spares!

This screw is amazing! It's so good in fact, I paid for two of them! The only downfall is they can easily be lost in the backseat of a rental car if it is around midnight and you are not careful. Be careful and take precautions.

Comments about Steadicam 8017436 Replacement Camera Mounting Screw:
This screw is integral to the working of the Merlin. I would highly suggest you have two on hand. The one I bought originally with the steadicam wore-out after a year of moderate use. Tightening it with a screwdriver wears it out each time. Eventually you just strip it so that it can't be used any more because it won't tighten.

It is just the perfect screw - just like the one that we lost. Which we then found in the sink.[$]
