This is an Impact 45" White Reflective Umbrella. Umbrellas soften, broaden, and diminish the light output of any tungsten or flash light source. Umbrellas with a white interior will soften and weaken light more than an umbrella with a silver lining.
Choosing umbrella size is determined by the size of the subject, and the strength of the light supply being used. Choosing an umbrella surface is as subjective as choosing a paint and brush.
Suggested use: 2 - 3 person head-and-shoulders shot, or 3 x 4' product setup.

This came with a kit (160 w/s monolight & light stand)
It's a typical low cost white umbrella with a clear plastic case.
For home use or learning (as I am) about studio lighting it's quite adequate. I doubt it would stand up to serious commercial use but that is not it's purpose. For what it is, it works well. By the time you wear it out you'll probably know exactly what you need in the way of professional gear.
The kit lets you start experimenting without worrying about buying other things.

Strobist Fun!
Not the greatest shoot-thru, but not the worst. Certainly one of the least expensive, and it's light (weight-wise) too!
Great for diffusing/directing strobe lights.

Nice umberella, well made. I go through these things like crazy so I expect them to only last a few months. So far, so good with this one. Has a button strap to keep it closed up. You would be surprized how many do not!

You can spend more money to get heavier duty build, but unless you're a pro using lighting everyday, I don't see much point in it. The Impact umbrella has adequate build quality at a very inexpensive price and I'm confident I can get years of use out of it by just being reasonable careful with it. And I don't mean babying it; I just mean don't abuse it. Functionally, it works like any other umbrella: shine a light through it or off of it, and it gives a pretty, soft light.

I use umbrellas on an almost daily basis and they get a lot of use and abuse. I tend to replace them every 8 months to a year since they break down in some aspect, i.e., the metal tips fall off and then have to fold the fabric over the metal ends which punctures the fabric, the metal skeleton gets stressed and bends, etc.

It works, and it's cheap. While I was detaching it from my elinchrom strobe the retaining clip on the shaft of the umbrella broke off. I guess it was my own fault for putting added pressure on it while pulling the umbrella, but I didn't expect it to break that easily.

This umbrella while being relatively inexpensive performed quite well as a main-light for a wedding I had to recently shoot.

Its an umbrella. It does as it should. The shaft is not very strong, so I wouldnt tighten down super hard when mounting to your stand. Puts out a good amount of light.

I love this umbrella. Doesn't cost too much and is very useful. I don't have any more expensive ones to compare it to, but I found it to cover my needs.

I have purchased umbrellas somewhere else before at about the same price but they cannot be compared with this one I got from B&H. The quality of this 45" is pretty good. It diffuses and soften the light. I use it for children portraits.

the umbrella works great, it just separated easily from the screw in mounts. Once you open it up and tighten, everything is fine, and for the price I would definitely recommend.

We use SPEEDOTRON studio lights with digital equipment and shooting through the white umbrellas makes a rather soft look without big softboxes. We do a large amount of location work and bouncing or shooting through doubles thier utility.

Have not yet had a chance to use it yet because it came with a package on a strobe I bought. It appears to be a nice umbrella if you are just getting started

Flash pops into the umbrella. Umbrella reflects the light back onto the subject. That's what I bought it for. Construction and durability appear to be satisfactory.

The bigger the umbrella the softer the light/shadows. This has worked great with my Nikon speedlights via the CLS that Nikon uses.

Does a great job modifying the light from my strobe. My next purchase will be a softbox. I will then compare the performance of this umbrella to that of a softbox.
