Comments about MXL 2010 Multi-Pattern Studio Condenser Microphone:

I purchased this from another seller a few years ago and it has become the favorite mic in my closet. I've done lots of business with B&H and thought I'd write a review so others could get a feel for this beauty.

I own several mics of various quality levels: AKG, Audio Technica, CAD, Shure, even Nady. I'm a tenor; but, all of the other mics gave my voice a nasal, midrangey quality that I didn't think sounded like I really sound live. This is the first mic I've owned that truly brings my voice out with the timbre I'm looking for.

It's not just my voice where it shines. I've used it for recording vocals on a number of other singers and it just has a "natural" sound that I think complements voice.

I also use it for acoustic guitar and it's a true winner there too. Crystal clear, chimey, with the full sound of the strings when placed about 1 foot away, halfway between the soundhole and the 12th fret. With a soundhole magnetic pickup added, EQd and panned, it comes really close to the acoustic sound from the Beatles' Gibson J-160E guitars.

The mic came with a foam windscreen and suspension shock mount (WITH extra rubber bands, no kidding!). Absolutely necessary to have the shock mount!! It's not clear from this listing whether the B&H product has all of those goodies.

If I had one complaint, and it's VERY minor, it would have been nice if MXL would have included a case rather than the bag that came with the mic. Even their 990s come in a nice case.
