I bought this lens to be able to take pictures at sporting events at distances of up to 70 yards. The results are as expected, this being my second Tamron Lens of AF 70-300M.
The pricing is such that this is the perfect lens for novices like myself. It's a nice addition for what I needed.
Granted, this is not what a professional might use, but it gives you an idea of what could be.
The only negatives are that the lighting inside can greatly differ picture quality. I had few problems taking pictures in Cameron Indoor Stadium of the Duke Basketball team. I am able to use several each time out for my web site.
The plus is the price and service from B & H rendered in getting this to me in a timely fashion.
Other than UPS not finding my house for delivery and having to pick the unit up 30 miles away, it was a pleasant experience.

Had this lens LESS than THREE MONTHS when it broke inside and the apreture blades quit working. Tamron fixed it free BUT I was without my lens for four weeks as they do not replace, only repair. It still flexes when focusing and overall still feels like it will fail again at any minute. AND if it does it is my problem as Tamron will only repair your lens ONCE with the repair having a 30-day warranty only and after that it is all your problem. These lenses used to be well made but now have a plastic mount and from my experiance, looks to be mostly made of cheap plastic. You can buy better for nearly the same money. If you buy this one I wish you luck!

Comments about Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens:
There is no lens above 200mm currently available for the NEX cameras. So I got 70-300 Tamron with Sony Alpha mount and the Sony Alpha/ E mount adapter. What I did not realize is that Sony SLR's have camera based image stabilization systems. Therefore, Alpha mount lenses do not have the OIS built in. Even those by other lens manufacturers. NEX cameras rely on lenses to provide IS. Well, 300mm is just too much for the hand held pictures without IS. I had no choice but return the lens. I would get the OIS lens with different mount and E mount adapter, but only Sony makes the model which transfers all lens functions to the body. I will just have to wait for somebody to make the E mount equipped long tele lens with the built in OIS.

Comments about Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens:
I use this lens aggressively and it never lets me down. I'm a wedding photographer and this lens gets the kiss every time.
It's fast, precise and sharp. Aperture is really nice for and versatile for how short the range is.
Yes, this lens is cheap. But I can honestly say it is great investment to any gear collection, no matter what level photographer you may be.

Comments about Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens:
These lens are good quality for a great price! The lens has a durable body and is very easy to get used to and easy to use. The lens automatically focuses fast enough to capture great photos at the right time. I own a Sony a55 and these lens compliment my camera with great quality photos. The quality of the photos from the lens are comparable to the Ziess lens or any other higher end lens.

I have had several lenses. But this one is a great buy because it takes awesome pictures and is not to exspensive. And when you shoot Freehand with it.The quality of the pictures still come out clear.I do suggest using a tripod if you want crystal clear shots. But thats true of any big lens..

Comments about Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens:
I am a hobby photographer but i like having equipment that works well. This lense was a gift, but I can't spend on the cadillac versions but i want a reliable Chevy! I love outdoor nature photography but I'm also a mom with kids in sports, ice hockey and soccer at the moment.
I like the durability and heft of this lens. it feels like you can handle it, no need to baby it. I feel the same way about my Tamron 18-200 lens.
So far it's doing what I expect. It's been a while since I've had a 300mm so i'm getting used to it again.
The macros funcion was a draw for me but it's not working the way i expected. I do need a bit more practice however!
I'd recommend this lens as a good value, and a worth while addition to one's gear.

Comments about Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens:
For the price you cant really complain about anything this lens does or doesnt do. My micro shots are great flowers/bugs/etc turn out crisp and vibrant.
Now the down side, as a telephoto is so "Blah" don't plan on using this on wild life thats over 50-75yds away. Even with optimal camera settings and manual focusing the lens has a tough time. Again for the price really not bad, but with a comparable lens that maybe double the price is well worth the money if you plan on shooting anything but landscapes.
If your looking for a cheap capable lens for shooting good shots of your kids at a game or your dog in the back yard or want to get into some macro for a cheap price go for it.

Comments about Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens:
I use this lens on my Sony 230a and it has worked pretty well so far. The images during the day and bright lighting are sharp and look great. However, the lens struggles in darker lighting. Some of the issues include the auto focus working too slow or not at all, image quality is not consistant, and I usually have to resort to manual focus for the flash to work correctly with the lens. I would still buy the lens since the price was so low. Perhaps I need a new flash. I would recommend a tripod for darker lighting.

The lens by itself is perfect for what i need. It gives me the zoom that i wanted, picture quality is a plus. Although the autofocus is a bit slow but its quite enough for the job.

Comments about Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens:
I use this lens mainly for wild life photography in daylight.
Sharpness across the frame is excellent for the most part, especially when stopped down and within the center.
Unfortunately, autofocus is both slow and loud; however this is the usual in this type of lens at this price range.
The macro mode is a neat treat.

Comments about Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Lens:
I'm an amateur but like to make photos. Bought this lens before having a weekend gateway in mountains. Was happy with picture qualities. If you have a panoramic view and want to get everything in one picture or zoom it closer without changing quality this lens does a good job. I used manual zoom and focus because automatic settings are quite annoying as it takes a lot longer to make a photo.
Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase. Keep learning it's features. If you want to have a nice lens but not spend lots of $$$ this one is great.

Though it's not the lightest model and you would always need to carry another lense, it's very convenient and easy to use. Dismounting and mounting us fast. Surprisingly also the focus is fast and good.
