The kit includes the 2003 large diaphragm condenser microphone, 603s instrument condenser microphone, shock mounts, cables and deluxe carry case.

The 2003 is a low-cost large diaphragm condenser microphone with a wide frequency response and a sound quality suitable for capturing vocals and general instruments. The 2003 features a cardioid polar pattern that effectively minimizes noise and ambiance, resulting in high gain before feedback.

The 603S is a low-cost, wide-cardioid small diaphragm condenser microphone. The 603S features a transformer-less output stage for greater signal-to-noise ratio and output signal. The wide-cardioid polar pattern excels in capturing instruments and vocals with minimal residual noise and feedback.

Comments about MXL Pro Pac Plus - Condenser Microphone Kit:

Definitely glad I bought the "Pro Pack Plus" instead of the "Recording Pack Plus" Since this comes with a nice case and shock mounts + foam end pieces etc.. Really I bought this for the 2003A which is a decent condensor microphone. Not a top of the line product if you were to experience an actual pro studio, but has it's place and like every microphone can shine on certain things and miserably fail at others. Personally I have used the 2003A on my ampeg 4x10 bass cabinet, briefly as overheads on a drum kit and to capture a performance of a native american flute and it has been sufficient for my needs and sounds good depending on mic placement (don't they all?). I like that the frequency response goes down to 20hz, and that it is a good price to capture true sound of your performance and room. I think it is pretty flat but people say it doens't take EQ well, I'd have to say this may be true, but in my short experience since I've owned it (about 1 yr) I havne't tried EQ'ing vocals because I typically use an sm7b for those so this is like a room or instrument mic for my needs and it performs well. Get the sound you want before you hit record an you'll be fine. I think it tends to be pretty accurate to my ears.

So now to the 603s; I don't really recommend this mic stock for anything because the highs are like harsh and the low end is hollow. I've actually used them on a guitar cabinet in an isolation booth where they have sounded the best since I roll off below 200hz anyhow in mixing. I've had luck getting an even response out of a drum kit when used as overhaeds but it stil leaves much to be desired. with that said there are some sites out there where people offer modifications of this mic so if you want the 2003A get this pack and the 603s for free basically and mod it up. I'm going to try it out soon.

Comments about MXL Pro Pac Plus - Condenser Microphone Kit:

There will always be Neumann, Sennheiser and AKG microphones produced by these great companies. There are some newer companies now making microphones that compete very well with those companies, MXL is one of those companies. I recently purchased the MXL Pro Pac Plus from B&H. Two great sounding microphones!!!! I used the model 2003a for vocal and the 603s on acoustic guitar the performance of these mics was phenomenal!!!! The MXL 2003a sound is very much like the Neumann TLM170, and 603a is very similar to the Sennheiser e614. In my opinion it is not worth the extra money to buy the top drawer microphones when MXL makes microphones of this quality!!!! I liked these microphones so much that I bougth a second pair for my mic locker!!!

I'm setting up a home computer music studio around Propellerhead software (Reason, Record) and was starting from scratch. This is a very complete kit, including both voice and instrument mics, shockmounts for both, and 2 high quality cables, all in a solid, custom-fitted case, for a very reasonable price. All I needed in addition were some stands and a pop filter. The voice mic is a 2003a, not the 2003 as stated in the description. All parts appear to be solid and well-built. Sound is full, rich, and clear. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Comments about MXL Pro Pac Plus - Condenser Microphone Kit:

So I've had the MXL 2003 and 603s pack for about three days so far and I'm so glad I bought them, I'm thinking about getting another set so I can have a pair of each.

The 2003 is a very nice condenser mic with a nice, flat frequency response. It doesn't have a nasty upper midrange spike that other cheap mics (like the MXL 990) are prone to. It has a nice warm sound that so far seems to play nice with EQ, and sounds heavenly on my Takamine acoustic. This is also my favorite mic that I own for vocals, hands down - no mic I've found has been really friendly to my vocal sound and style, but the 2003 gives a good representation of my voice's upper-midrange focus without making it sound thin and lifeless, a feature of my voice that every other microphone I've tried so far has made me more than insecure about. Through the 2003, my voice sounds warm and full, but at the same time even more vibrant and clear and present than ever. It gave me more confidence in my vocal ability, and I've given noticeably better performances as a result. Definitely would buy another one!

The 603s I haven't really had much of a chance to play around with. My Takamine acoustic has a cedar top, and is fairly warm and dark sounding, and the 603s was nowhere near as flattering on it as the 2003 was, but I've yet to find a small diaphragm condenser I like on it anyways. I'd imagine the 603s would be nice on a bright sounding guitar. It works remarkably well as an overhead mic - the low end wasn't great, but I was mostly concerned here with my cymbals, which were crystal clear and cut through the mix very well. My favorite use for it so far - close micing my ride cymbal. I like to do this because my drummer does a lot of intricate work on the ride, and it sometimes gets eaten up in the mix, especially with heavily distorted guitars, so I mix this in to bring it out a bit more. It gives a crisp, clear ping sound as well as a powerful bell sound that isn't too harsh but cuts through very well. Overall, the 603s is one of my favorite small diaphragm condenser mics in the sub $300 range.

Definitely well worth the money - cheap, totally - but both of these mics are very useable, very versatile, and are great additions to any home studio mic locker, and the added extras are just icing on the cake! As soon as my next paycheck rolls in, I'm getting myself a second set. Buy yourself a set, you won't regret it!

I have a small project studio and was in need of another vocal mic. I bought the 2003a based on several recommendations and love it. Other places sell it for [$]with no accessories, so buying it from B&H was a no brainer.I wasn't expecting much from the 603S, but was pleasantly surprised by how well it picked up my Hummingbird Artist acoustic. Rich, warm lows and articulate highs without being harsh or brittle, perfect for my acoustic. The real winner is the 2003a. Wow. I tracked a female singer doing harmony vocals just last night, and was floored by how amazing this mic sounded. Smooth, detailed, and full. Very warm, natural sounding vocals. For my own voice I prefer the MXL V67G, but I have a bit of a unique voice...I can see the 2003a being my go-to vocal mic for a lot of singers that come through. Also, it kills on acoustic guitar. That same warmth and fullness it brings to voices REALLY sounds stellar on acoustic guitars. Two high-quality, good sounding mics, with shock mounts and other accessories, plus a case, for [$]? Can't be beat. Thanks B&H!

Comments about MXL Pro Pac Plus - Condenser Microphone Kit:

I would've gave this pack 5 stars instead of 4, but I had to do some "adjusting" to the 603s mic capsule in order for it to "kick" on after being plugged up and fed phantom power. After taking it apart and adjusting some things, it has been fine ever since.

That being said, if you know anything about mics, then you know these MXL mics are nowhere near the top of the food chain. In the same respect, they're nowhere near the bottom either. For a starter mic kit, this is an excellent buy. For the sake of adding two new mics to your mic collection, this is an excellent buy.

You get 2 decent condensers, 2 shock mounts, mogami cables, windscreens and a case, all for the value of the 2003a alone!

Considering the price, the 2003a (yes this is the newer revamped 2003a mic and not the original 2003) is pretty flat in response and very quiet. I find it very easy to do what I want to do with the vocals that I record through it. The 603s has an elevated high end, but with proper eq and compression, you can get a lot out of both of these bad boys.

The windscreens aren't great, but hey, how can you complain for this steal of a price?!?!

I'm no great expert but I'm trying to build up a decent inexpensive mic collection. Saw this recommended on [@], and I needed a mid-focused mic so I jumped on this deal; I needed some cables, and could use the included 603 as an extra SDC mic.Great mic so far, it's been getting raves and has done very well in a multi-mic shootout on Gearslutz (do a search there for MXL 2003 to listen to the files yourself), and even beat out other professionally modded mics. So far so good...

Comments about MXL Pro Pac Plus - Condenser Microphone Kit:

Great deal here! You essenstially get a great large diaphragm condenser (LDC), a small diaphragm condenser, two cables, two windscreens two shockmounts, and two carry bags all in a rugged case. Also, the LDC is the newer 2003a, not the original 2003. Not sure why the package is not advertised as such, but I am one of many who can confirm that you do indeed get the 2003a. The new version has a much smoother, less harsh sound than the original. It is a great vocal mic when you want a clean, natural sound with a high-end that is crisp but not hyped and harsh like most mics in its price range. And best of all, you get the whole package for just a little bit more than the 2003a costs by itself.

The 603s has a bright, somewhat harsh sound. If you want to give a dull or excessively warm sound some edge and help it cut through a mix, you might want to try running it through a 603. Being a SDC, it is not designed for vocal recording really, nor would I reccomend it if you're after a smooth, balanced sound (that's what the 2003a is for). To be honest though, I would consider this package a great deal even without the 603.

Comments about MXL Pro Pac Plus - Condenser Microphone Kit:

Not long ago, you would have likely paid significantly more for what you is provided in the MXL Pro Pac. The new MXL 2003A is a very well designed large diaphram condenser microphone. The frequency response is fairly flat (unlike some of the other MXL LDCs that exhibit huge high frequency boost). As a bonus, you can have the 2003A modded for not too much $$ to create a mic that will compete with top quality stuidio mics costing ten times as much.

But wait, there is more! The Pro Pac also includes the MXL603s, a very usable SDC. This mic does have a bit of rising high frequency response, but this can be useful for drum overheads. The MXL 603s can also be modded to tame the frequency response.

The Pro Pac also includes a very nice aluminium case, isolation mounts for both mics, and wind screens for both mics, and mic cables. All of this alone is easily worth $100-150 if bought seperately.

All in all, the Pro pac offers tremendous value at its price point. You get 2 mics, an LDC and an SDC, and all the accessories you need in order to use the two mics.
