The unit also has great connectivity options with MIDI input and output connectors, 1/4" and 1/8" outputs, and a DC power input for use with the optional power adapter. Comments about Akai Professional EWI4000s Electronic Wind Instrument:

Purchased the EWI4000 for my hubby for Christams. He used to own a Yahama Wind Controller and said this one is much more sturdy and because the keys are sensors, it is much more sturdy. Having said that, you will definitey need to purchase a sound bank, the sounds that come with the EWI are worthless. At the time of purchase which was back in December, BandH had the best price ever on the device. There is a definite learning curve if you are not a sax player and the instructions arent that easy, but it's an overall good device.

      wonderful instrument

Comments about Akai Professional EWI4000s Electronic Wind Instrument:

I purchased this wind controller in stead of buying a saxophone after I saw a demo on youtube showing how versatile it can be.
This ewi4000s has a very good build quality. All interfaces that you will need in midi world.
The best of all is that it can be played right out of box with a set of headphone.
The sound patches in it are not very good as people said, but it doesn't matter
To a rookie like me. The convenice is more important for now, and I can find some good sound pathes later after I am a better player.
B&H has the best price in US, so look no further.

Comments about Akai Professional EWI4000s Electronic Wind Instrument:

I have played Irish Whistle for many years but I am a novice with this particular instrument. A pre-purchase review of the manual was a little daunting but the Alistair Parnell's YouTube lessons persuaded me to try the instrument. The Service from B&H was top notch. The company appears to have the best price out there. Their price was at least 20% better than the competition. The the shipping and delivery was very fast. The option to pay duty and taxes at the purchase point was a definite plus (I live in Canada)and the shipping cost were low. I have explored the instrument for a couple of days and I am pleasantly surprised at how intuitive is the fingering and I am looking forward to many hours of enjoyment with the instrument. If you are even remotely interested in wind instruments this is well worth exploring.Rod WilsonB.C. Canada

Comments about Akai Professional EWI4000s Electronic Wind Instrument:

I am actually a trumpet player and have played the Electronic Valve Instrument or EVI since 1979. I have had the pleasure of playing the Steiner-Parker version, the Crumar version, the AKAI EVI100 version, and now am practicing the EWI4000s using the reverse EVI fingering mode. For other EVI players out there, there is a little learning curve, but after about 20 minutes things just "clicked" and it felt natural after that. I am impressed that the built-in synth is expressive- I had always played analog synth modules and this digital instrument doesn't disappoint. Next on my list is a wireless system for it...

Comments about Akai Professional EWI4000s Electronic Wind Instrument:

This is a bit of a 'niche' instrument which works best when combined with a number of other units. Do your homework on the third party hardware and software that is available for this item and you will be able to get spectacular results.
This is a bit pricier than the USB version, but you can feel the higher quality and this allows you to go fully wireless and not have to go through a computer with all those potential problems.
If you can get over the looks of this thing - it is a great piece of equipment. In a band situation it will do everything a keyboard synth will do and hugely more with the dynamics on offer.
If you buy this on it's own, you will probably be disappointed as the onboard sounds are not the best. Do your homework and obtain the other items that unlock it's potential and you will be very pleased.

Comments about Akai Professional EWI4000s Electronic Wind Instrument:

This truly is state-of-the-art for wind controllers; however, the octave key rollers take a lot of time to get used to, and the 100 cheesy synth sounds that come pre-loaded on it are of little use except to test the playability of the instrument. The first thing you'll need to do is get a real sound bank; check the web if you don't already know where to find one. The keys are touch-sensitive, so they have no moving parts; this requires some getting used to, but not much. You'll have to learn a new way to use vibrato, but it's not that hard really. It has a transposition feature that allows you to play in the key of any instrument out there. It uses AA batteries, or you can plug-in the optional AC power. The EWI 4000s is not a power hog, so I just keep rechargeable batteries on hand.

Comments about Akai Professional EWI4000s Electronic Wind Instrument:

I was seeking a full-featured portable instrument that I could use while traveling by aircraft for practicing in hotels. With a nice set of headphones and rechargeable batteries, this fits the bill perfectly. Unlike the USB model, this works without needing to haul around a laptop, which is a major benefit to traveling light.

It would be nice if there were a good case for it, but that's in no way a criticism of the instrument itself.

Great solid build instrument. The octave key is a little tricky to get used to it, it take a couple of hours (as a sax player). The presets sounds arent so good, so it's a must the midi-usb interface (not included) to get it customize with your computer or use your ewi as a midi controller, i use reason, logic pro, garage band and works great, you can configure what parameter you what to control with the breath (such as volume, velocity, etc) so you can configure to have a great expressiveness.

It's a little expensive, so it would be nice if it include a case, or even sell one separately, i still use the original package to transport it!!, the accesories are cheap, the neck strap, even the cleaning cloth is a joke.

I really recommend it is so fun to play with it, and is great to have an quiet alternative to practice (with headphones) in the night (with the sax it simply not possible)
