International Orders*The angled view Fieldscope ED50 13-30x50 Spotting Scope from Nikon is a compact and lightweight spotting scope with a 50mm ED (Extra-low Dispersion) objective lens for chromatic aberration. Nikon especially developed ED glass to provide precise optical color correction.
The ED50 scope is offered as straight or angled viewing design. Most users will prefer angled scopes because they are both simple to use for birds perched high above the viewer as well as easily simultaneously shared amongst users of differing heights. But some will prefer the straight viewing models, for these are much easier to use when hunting down the object of interest in the first place.
Nikon's Fieldscope line of spotting scopes are premium offerings to compete with the best of sports optics manufactured in Japan or Europe. You choose your options based on concerns for mass and budget: straight or angled, objective diameter, and whether to spring for the ED (extra-low dispersion) glass for more favorable appreciation of highly detailed subjects.
All of Nikon's spotting scope line is backed up by the "No-Fault" 25-year warranty. Regardless of what happens to your scope-even of your own negligence-Nikon will repair or replace (at their option) your scope for just $10 plus the return shipping costs.
Note! Covered by Nikon's 25-year no-fault repair/replacement policy

Comments about Nikon Fieldscope ED50 A Spotting Scope:
I bought this scope because of the excellent rating it has received. Although I have only had it for a few weeks, I like what I see. My primary use will be birding though I will also use it for my occasional trips to the shooting range. I was surprised by it's light weight. The image quality is what I expected, which is great, but I do not have much to compare it to as I bought it based on online reviews and not an extensive hands-on evaluation. I knew it did not have the twist eye cup but instead has the fold back style. Seems odd that Nikon would not include that feature on a scope that is potentially used by groups of people where some wear glass and others do not. Clearly a scope that you can easily carry in a day pack and hardly know it's there.
My only complaint is that it took 2 full months to arrive. I guess this is a popular item.

Comments about Nikon Fieldscope ED50 A Spotting Scope:
Good for birding and wildlife observation. Much easier on the neck than the straight body version.

Comments about Nikon Fieldscope ED50 A Spotting Scope:
This is a nice small scope - easy to take around and nice view for birding. Not the biggest fan of the rubber fold down eyepiece and wish it were twist up. Biggest negative of an otherwise nice scope is the current lack of availability of eyepieces in the US.

It is the best scope I have seen for birding in a group. It is so lightweight and the angled eyepiece works best for people of various heights.
