The Visual Echos FX1 Better Beamer Flash Extender will help increase the reach of the flash and increases the flash output by about 2 to 3 f/stops. It focuses and concentrates the output of the flash into a narrow beam via the fresnel screen that gets positioned in front of the flash. This allows shooting at greater distances and shooting with smaller apertures.
The Better Beamer is designed to be used with lenses 300mm and longer, and its rugged, injection-molded plastic side supports are attached to the flash head by a sturdy elastic "hook-and-loop" band. The rigid supports hold the Fresnel screen in place in both horizontal and vertical formats. Just weighs 2 1/2 oz.
The FX1 version will fit many mid-size flash heads, e.g. Canon 430EZ, 199d, Nikon SB-24 and SB-28, Minolta 2500 and 5400, and Pentax 5000AF. The measurement between the two attachment flaps is 1 9/16".

It's a good product. I use it to photograph birds
and other small critters. The problem I have is it does not fit my Olympus FL-50 properly. I even checked with tech support and they told me this would be the best fit.

Comments about Visual Echoes FX1 Better Beamer for Select Mid-Size Flashes:
I use the beamer mostly on my 400mm for photographing birds in low light and in shadows. It does extend the range of your flash and is easy to use. I had actually built one before but it was hard to transport on trips as it did not come apart. This one comes apart very easily and can be slipped into a camera bag or backpack which is very nice for transporting it on trips.
They do take some adjusting to get them placed just right on the external flash to get the light to strike your subject properly. One item I think could be built better is the Velcro strips on the front that hold the magnifying lenses. It does not stay fastened real well and comes undone at times, but all in all it is a great product and would recommend it to any one.

Small, compact, easily assembled, reasonably priced, and I can now see my Birds eyes when I take their photo. The beamer has made a big difference .

Works like a charm... nice to be able to use fill flash on long lenses. I use it on a sunpack flash when using a Sigma 18-250 on a Canon 60D at long focal lenths (APS-C (.6 full frame sensor)).

A good fill lite for shooting with a telephoto lens
But does tend to hang up on things

Focuses flash as described and helps eliminate harsh shadows. Had to research on the web to find the one for my flash, which took a while (it's an older flash). The sides are sturdy and mounted easily to my flash. The lens seems a bit flimsy, but it works like it said. It packs away quickly and is easy to carry. Maybe a bit overpriced. A word of caution, it burned two lines an inch long in my neoprene lens cover in less than a minute, so watch where the sun is if you use your camera on a tripod, or are stationary for a while. The concentrated beam from the sun can easily damage your equipment. It could use some type of top piece to keep the sun from hitting the fresnel lens.

I had to do some searching on the Web to find which model was correct for my camera. Fortunately, the size I ordered was the right one. It is a welcome addition for adding distance to my external flash during outdoor, zoom photography -- especially when photographing birds in the woods.
It appears to be made of good material. My only reservation is the it seems to be overpriced. But since it is one of only a few practical solutions to a need, I am glad I have it.

I do a lot of bird photography & this is fast becoming one of my favorite accessories. Really great for opening up the shadows on distant subjects. Only complaint is the materials seem a little flimsy although I haven't had any problems because of it
