Ambient Recording's QX5130 Quickpole Xtra Light Boom is made from the industry's strongest, stiffest carbon fiber tubing. The boom is excellent for achieving lengths of over 16' and does not tighten in cold or wet climates. Tubing has a 1.5 mm thickness that is lightweight but offers very low transmission noise when the boom is handled. At the tip is a machined, stainless steel 3/8" thread. Secure screw locks and an internal spacer enhance the boom's safety features. The Quickpole Boom can be easily disassembled for cleaning.

Comments about Ambient Recording QX5130 Quickpole Xtra Light Boom:

after 4 years of using a rode 10' boom and struggling to get in close on wide shots for film projects, i decided to purchase another ambient recordings boom pole. i also have an 8' pole by them that i use for interior shoots, but this was more for use in exteriors and larger interior spaces, where i would be using either my new DPA 4017 shotgun or my old workhorse, the Rode NTG3. the pole i was accustomed to using was aluminum and after 10 or 15 minutes of holding it up over my head with the heavier rode mic and zeppelin and at full extension, while an actor or actress either has a very long monologue that's going great, or it's take after take of mistakes, that starts to get pretty tiring. this ambient pole is very light weight and i purchased and installed the internal straight cable, as it does not come with one. the combination of the carbon fiber and the lightness of the DPA mic make a world of difference. i did a commercial shoot (which was more ENG and SFX gathering than anything else) in a large interior space last week. this was the only boom i brought. it was super easy to extend and collapse during the rushing around. the collars stay in place without needing to be cinched down, and even at full extension i felt comfortable holding this for longer than i might have with the 10' aluminum pole. at 18' it may not be what everyone needs, but ambient makes a great carbon fiber pole in a number of sizes. i've also placed their quick change tips on both of my booms, and all of my mics, to facilitate change-ups in a quicker fashion. it's not cheap, but if you look at what other manufacturers offer and their pricing, it's about the same if not cheaper. i bought the smaller boom used and i've had no problems with it. if i need parts, they can be ordered. much better than tossing something out.
