The 4-Port FireWire-400 Repeater and Hub from Comprehensive/Kramer turns 1 FireWire-400 port on your computer system into 4. The hub also acts as a repeater, allowing you to double the length that FireWire cable can be run from 14.75' (4.5 m) to 29.5' (9 m). Multiple repeaters can be cascaded to achieve a maximum length of 236' (72 m)
FireWire-400 supports data transfer bandwidth of up to 50 MB/sec, making it an ideal solution for high performance external storage devices. Users who have multiple FireWire-400 devices and only not enough ports on their computer or need to connect remote FireWire devices to a computer will find this hub and repeater to be an ideal solution to meet their needs.
- Expandability
- The hub turns 1 FireWire-400 port into 4, allowing you to more easily connect multiple FireWire-400 devices to your computer.
- Repeater Functionality
- You can use this hub to repeat FireWire-400 signals, allowing you to connect devices that are physically further away from your computer than the FireWire standard allows for on its own. Adding a single repeater doubles the range of FireWire from 14.75' (4.5 m) to 29.5' (9 m). You can daisy chain repeaters to achieve lengths of up to 236' (72 m)

Working in a technology-driven church I needed multiple firewire connections running to a single laptop. Fortunately this hub has worked seamlessly. I haven't had any latency issues and I am streaming live video as well as multi-track audio. It has been a life saver.

The Kramer VS-4FW firewire hub is excellent except that it causes problems when used with an Intel-based iMac. When putting the iMac into Sleep mode, the Kramer hub actually causes the iMac to shutdown. Happens every time. Other than that, the Kramer hub is very good.

This is high quality all the way. Molex connectors, steel chassis, made in Israel and not China.
Very well thought out, in that it comes with mounting brackets to screw it down to something. You will need to do this, of course, as boxes of this nature will not sit level (or at all) once the cables are plugged in. I simply made a pair of skids from 1x2 pine that extend 2 inches past the ports.
