Comments about Kino Flo BAL-139X Mini-Flo Ballast (12V DC):

I tried to save $50 by buying a used 9" mini-flo....and realized that I got the old (AC ballast) that doesn't have 4pin XLR. Since I use it as an on-camera eyelight...I needed DC.Also, the harness and fixture didn't come with any of the coiled flex arm, so I have to buy that.So to try and save $50, so far I've spent [$] (plus shipping). Do yourself a favor and just buy what you need new from B&H.The one small dislike (why I gave it 4 and not 5 stars) is that the feet make it really a tall and awkward size. I would hope they would streamline this product, especially knowing that, as a DC item, that it's portability, stow-ability would be important. I just velcro the top and stick it to my steadicam rig, or tape it to rods...the rubber feet, while giving it a bit of shock resistance and/or cooling), actually get in the way a bit from most portable mounting options. Anyway, it's always been great that miniflos keep the ballast separate from the fixture, and it's nice that they made a stronger sturdier switch (vs the older AC ballast design).
