PROS: The legs are sturdy and work well. They flip down and lock into place. On uneven terrain you can stay more or less level by pivoting the base. But this pod is not about the legs. This pod is about the base. The base is a stiff ball joint that allows you the speed and flexibility of tilting the camera to the desired angle. But the best part of the base is that it is built inside a fluid sleeve that allows you to make nice smooth pans. This feature alone is worth the price. If you are covering fast moving event stuff that requires the steadiness and panning capabilities of a tripod but you dont have the time nor the room for it this monopod fits the bill. In a tight spot you could easily cover an entire ceremony with it and not miss your tripod. The 560B is lighter than Manfrottosprevious top of the line monopod. CONS: You CAN NOT lock the ball joint down which means you cannot lock the camera down and walk away from the pod. Any camera over two pounds will tilt the pod over on its own weight (unless you hold on to it). This engineering oversight borders on stupidity. Manfrotto already has the technology for locking ball joint tripod heads. Why they neglected to use it on their top of the line monopod is beyond me. Monopod also lacks a bubble level. Can you believe a $150 pivoting monopod without a 25 cent stupid level??? To keep it light Manfrotto used thinner wall aluminum legs which feel flimsy and are definitely less sturdy than their other monopods. In my personal scale of one to ten Id give it a seven and would recommend it for event work for its great panning capability alone.

Problems Encountered: Pivoting ball joint does not lock down. Cameras over two pounds will tilt the monopod over. No bubble level.

Previous Equivalent Items Owned: Bogen Manfrotto monopods and tripods

Items I Recommend: A non pivoting QR head.

Worst purchase I ever made. Tilt mechanism at bottom sticks and pops rendering this mono totally useless for my video work. Pan mechanism is smooth and works as advertised, but the ball joint at very bottom ruins the whole effect. I'm buying the 679 bare bones monopod and adding the tilt head and I'm sure it will be 10 times better at half the cost. Dont waste your money!

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

I have a very heavy Miller tripod that I usually keep wheels on which gives it a wide footprint. At times I don't want to bring it to a short interview or b-roll location. The Manfrotto has already become a great asset as I can run and gun with it and get the stabilization I need without bring in the big tripod. Much better then a monopod. I wish the spread legs were a little longer is about my only gripe.

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

The 3 small legs at the bottom makes this monopod unique and amazing. The only knock, and it's minor, is that the ball pivot at the bottom cannot be fully locked. If I have a light camera on the head, then it'll stay on its own, but if you have heavier camera/lens you'll have too hold it at all times.I've enjoyed its versatility and stability while taking portrait and action shots.

This monopod is excellent is principle, but I was initially frustrated with the ball joint sticking. I added some graphite powder to the ball socket and now it is silky smooth.

My wife has used this for both video and still photography using a D7100. Pan is smooth, legs are a little skinny. It works ok. I personally don't see any real advantage with this monopod over a regular one - and you can get a very nice standard monopod for a lot less money.

P.S. Don't try walking away from this unit with your camera attached. Might work that way once or twice, but...

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

Quite well made; unlike some other reviewers I find the leg locks to be more than adequate. The head is not so hot but can be improved somewhat by disassembling it, lightly sanding the graphite disk that's inside with 320 grit or finer sandpaper on a flat surface, then adding more graphite powder or light grease before reassembling. That being said, I replaced the head with a small fluid head by Konova Photo. The panning function is really smooth, and this is a great piece of gear for minimalist hiking or crowded places like zoos where tripods are a hassle.

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

I purchased this monopod and put a 701HDV head on it. The fluid pan at the base is superb and works well.

NOTE: Some reviewers complain that the tilt is jerky at the base, and it is because it wasn't intended to tilt at the base. It was made to pan smoothly, which it does very well. I use the 701HDV head to do my tilts.

You can adjust the tension of the tilt at the base, as that is what keeps the monopod standing on its own on the feet. I have it pretty stiff so that the BMPCC with lenses can stand on its own, hands-free.

Good solid feet, stable support, just outright perfect unit. Haven't used my tripod for quite some time now.

It's not super light, but it feels rugged.

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

This is a great unit for quick set ups and steady video work. I use it with a Lumix GH2 and for 90% of my B-Roll shots it's all I use. But you must use it properly. This unit is NOT designed for tilting up and down - the fluid motion is ONLY available for side to side panning. If you try tilting up and down you will encounter sudden pops and jerks due to the ball that attaches to the feet at the bottom. But if used as intended - the feet at the bottom combined with the fluid base will give you great results all day long. The feet are designed to aid in the panning movement - they are NOT intended to keep the unit upright unassisted. Always keep a hand on the unit - this is a monopod NOT a tripod. I read a number of negative reviews and it is apparent to me that they all used the unit incorrectly. If you have a small camcorder or DSLR and need a reliable steady and smooth panning monopod - this is the best unit out there by far.

This is my fourth monopod and actually used it more than three times and think will continue to use. The only thing that slows me down is the tilt hinge which is on the right side and I intuitively want it on the left side.

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

We used this monopod to mount an iPod touch mount on to shoot videos. The monopod was exactly what we needed. The stand itself is very rigid and doesn't wiggle at all as some cheaper versions would. I highly recommend this product for quick breakdown and easy storage. The only problem we had with it was the socket joint at the bottom. While it had fluid motion, it was a little too fluid for our taste. You wanted to make sure you always keep a hand on it.

Overall I give the product 5 stars for ease of use and quality manufacturing. .

I use this product when shooting short spoofs that my company produces. It's so much better than lugging a tripod everywhere - the next best thing to owning shoulder mount. I really appreciate the legs at the bottom helping me stable the camera even more. I just wished it could hold my camera in place! Overall, awesome. Great design.

Love this thing! So easy to use and Light! keeps me from getting so tired when shooting at long time. Keeps steady hand as well as moving smootly and easily at the base. Altough I bought it for my dslr, I find shooting with my video camera very comfortable and panning is a breeze. I did replace the head , however, with a manfrotto 496rc2 head, but that is a personal preference.

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

I read the reviews of this product with some concern before deciding to try it out. After some trial and error I find that there are several ways to get the best performance out of this monopod.1) lubrication of the ball, as referred to by others, plus 2) adjustment of the clamp that holds the ball at the foot. It's important to keep two out of the three screws fully tightened, otherwise the top and bottom parts of the clamp can rotate slightly relative to each other, creating a backlash effect. Slacken off ONE screw only, and adjust to get the right level of friction. The ball should not rotate during normal (slow) panning, but it doesn't matter if it rotates a bit during very fast panning.3) remove the circular rubber disk on the head platform. I found that this allowed the head to flex slightly relative to the monopod. With it removed the head is attached more rigidly. Finally, avoid the original version of this monopod (without the -1 suffix) since this has seriously inferior legs. On the model I examined, these would not lock properly in the down position.

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

This is a Monopod with three little legs. It hampers the otherwise quick action of a Monopod without the three little protrusions and it cannot be used as a tripod as it lacks the stability of one. It's like driving a car at night using a flashlight to see, instead of the car's headlights.

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

If you're on the move shooting B Roll and events, then this unit is a MUST to own. It is a thousand times smoother and easier to use than going hand held. I used this monopod with a DVX100, and HVX200 and now a Canon XF100 along with a Lumix GH1 and it worked great with ALL those cameras - although I will say that it was a bit too small for the HVX200. A few people have complained about the base joint causeing pops in their video due its jerky nature - but keep in mind this monopod IS NOT designed for tilting up and down. The fluid pivot at the base is ONLY designed for side to side panning. If used as it's designers intended it to be used, you will get many, many years of great fluid PAN shots with this unit.

Comments about Manfrotto 560B-1 Aluminum Fluid Video Monopod RC2 Quick Release:

The good - the folding legs of course and the fluid drag cylinder at the bottom. Light weight, quick release and run and gun efficiency.

The less than good, but not really bad - I have experienced the ball 'pop' described by others. Applying a little downward force when moving it mitigates the occasional problem. There is no smooth way to tilt this at the top, but I knew this going in and may buy a tilting head at some point.

This monopod is amazing for what I need it for. I shoot Track and Field meets for my daughters team. At the end of the season I make a video capturing the running highlights as well as the fun times off the track.I've never produced super steady shots holding my canon HD camcorder. Now my hands have even more of a physical tremor than in previous years.

This monopod is fantastic for producing shake free shots. I looked for a monopod that had legs that were easily retractable on the fly and allow me to let go of the camera (never for a milli-second would I keep my eye off of it, because it can easily fall over, especially the closer you get to full extension). What this lets me do is something that was never practical before - use the remote control for the camcorder. When I have the monopod standing on it's own I can operate the zoom and record without disturbing the shot by touching the manual camera start and stop and zoom buttons. The result is very steady video when zoomed from one end of the track to the other. This allows absolutely unheard of (to me anyway)precise shots I could never get by handheld or other non-legged monopods. When I want to do a smooth pan, that fluid drag cartrige at the bottom of the monpod is priceless. I can take some video, collapse this thing quickly and run to the other end of the infield to catch the kids at the opposite turn. Try that with a tripod!Comparing the recordings on my computer to before I got the Manfrotto is like night and day.

A friend of mine is an engineer and I knew he would appreciate the feel of this monopod. He designs and builds precision equipment every day of his life. The feel of the legs opening and snapping in place really makes you appreciate the precision.Between that and the fluid base, He just said "Wow. That's what we in the industry would call 'yxes'(backwards). Translation: Something an engineer would be proud of after completion.

Yes it's expensive, but the legs and the fluid base combination make it well worth the money.
