Comments about Giottos M7001 Ballhead with MH-652 Quick Release:

I purchased this head as a substitute for a fluid video head. This serves as a good small camera head.

The quick release feature is good and the clamps are firm and solid.

i also purchased a head with handles and would recommend that for someone not used to one without.

Good purchase and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Comments about Giottos M7001 Ballhead with MH-652 Quick Release:

Except for a strange Silk quick release I have never used one, this one is much better and I got it to match the one I was getting for my other Ballhead. It works fine I wish the lever did not stick out so much.

The Ballhead is simple, but simple is what I wanted for my Monopod. It allows me to get all the angles that I just faked before.

Best used on a monopod, IMO

Comments about Giottos M7001 Ballhead with MH-652 Quick Release:

I bought this to use on a monopod because it:
          A) takes the same QR plate as the ballhead on my tripod, and
B)is fairly simple in design. I didn't really want anything fancy on top of a monopod.

While this ballhead will hold a Nikon D80 with a 70-300mm lens attached, it is still possible to move the camera with a little added force. This means that while locked, you can still "fine-tune" the positioning of the camera, though. Once you've got it pointed the way you want, it will pretty much stay that way, unless it is bumped. In use on a mono, this has been a huge plus.

Unfortunately, this is something of a minus if it is used on a tripod, since it also means that the camera can be easily bumped out of position, ruining a shot.

A very good head for a monopod or for a tripod that will be used with a light-weight camera, or an SLR with a light-weight lens attached.
