The Tiffen 82mm Digital Ultra Clear Filter is a simple, clear filter designed for general protection for your lens. This optically clear filter does not affect the overall image quality while helping reduce dust, scratches, moisture, and other elements from damaging your lens. Its Water White glass construction is optically pure and maintains consistent light transmission and clarity.
Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology; a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, then mounting to precision metal rings.

I bought this filter to give a little protection to my new 24-70 f2.8 lens (Canon). I have not had an issue with the quality of glass with this filter, but the lens cap which came with the lens does not fit onto the filter very well. It always takes me a minute to get the lens cap on just right and when I do, I'm never sure if it's actually secure or if it will fall off in transport.

Bought this as a protective filter to go over an expensive new lens. It's generally fine for this purpose. Unfortunately, it tends to be more cloudy under direct light then my expensive new glass, so when shooting directly or nearly-directly into bright lights I remove it. For the price, though, I didn't expect much else.

The glass might be ok on this, I'll never know because I'll never be using it, the outside ring is way to small to accept a lens cap. [$]$ wasted, will know to buy a better brand filter next time :(

I have never figured the reason for spending big bucks for a nice lens and then cover it with anything other than a clear filter. The filter allows the lens to gather all the colors without distortion or variance and also provides the protection for the front glass that is so important. You won't go wrong with this filter.

It's not a matter of IF I'm ever going to hit my lens on something, just a matter of WHEN. I put this on before I ever used the lens and it's a great peace of mind knowing it's there.
