Comments about RPS Lighting RS-CS1070 Copy Stand:

The copy stand must be designed to hold a camera perpendicular to the copy board surface. It must do this from all angles to produce copies without distortion. This unit can be adjusted left or right by adjusting the camera angle but forward/backward adjustment in relation to the slider is not possible. I ended up "shimming" the camera mount to achieve a true 90 degree angle in relationship the copy deck. A simple set-screw adjustment engineered into the design would have solved the problem. Another solution might be to offer a "ball" head like on a tripod. This would solve all adjustment problems. It should not be an extra item. It should be supplied with the unit. It you must adjust the price; then do it but don't leave a customer wanting. The unit should be fully functional when it arrives. Also, I'd like to see an easier way to dismantle it. I have to set it up and use it and then tear it down.

          Works best when modified...

Comments about RPS Lighting RS-CS1070 Copy Stand:

I anticipated from other reviews that this unit would require minor modifications to make it really functional. The price is attractive, so if your are handy you can make this work. The major flaw in the stock unit is the plastic bracket forming the camera attachment. The plastic flexes from the weight of the camera (D700) and there is no way to level the camera front to back.

My fix was to discard the plastic bracket and replace it with an aluminum plate with my single axis Manfrotto monopod tilt head for leveling. I also attached a rack and pinion focusing rail for fine tuning. Since I had all the parts except the shorter 6mm machine screws, this only cost me my time.

Works great with the modifications! (Use a bubble level on the back of the camera to set the angle of the camera.)

Comments about RPS Lighting RS-CS1070 Copy Stand:

This copy stand is not very sturdy as the mounting head is plastic. The camera is not very steady and there is a constant wobble. In this case the price is low due to poor quality.

Comments about RPS Lighting RS-CS1070 Copy Stand:

This copy stand is very cheaply made. The part that holds the camera is a low quality plastic. It is not sturdy and lots of camera vibration due to low quality. It is not level and causes items captured to be out of focus. The price is low for a reason. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Comments about RPS Lighting RS-CS1070 Copy Stand:

This is a solid copy stand, very smooth to raise and lower, the arm extension lets you get nicely over the center of what you are shooting. It can be put together and taken apart easily. For me, it is a bit too big to transport easily. If that is not a concern and you have plenty of room to use it, it is fine. Otherwise I would recommend the smaller model. Of course, it needs lights. I use it with my own tota lights but would like to see a model that affordably incorporates lights

Comments about RPS Lighting RS-CS1070 Copy Stand:

Very stable and easy to set up; with lights it took 15-20 minutes.
4 bolts hold column to base.
3 long bolts hold camera mount to carriage.
Flexible steel tape up the back and over the top of the column provides counter weight.
                Vertical motion is smooth.
The base does not have markings.
The camera carriage does not adjust in and out from the column.
