The Slik Pro 340DX is a complete all-metal tripod setup that's effective for lightweight travel duty when one desires a professional feel. T. alloy has a 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminum, meaning the legs are lighter weight yet stronger than the standard metal used in most of today's tripods.

B&H had a great price for the tripod and free bag. Not a ball-head tripod, but at the price you could buy a ballhead separately and still not break the bank. The tripod is stable with my nikon D90 and 18-200 lens, including when the camera is tilted 90 degrees in portrait mode. It folds down small, and is quite light, but could be made lighter if you swapped out the relatively heavy pan head for a lighter ball head. The pan head works fine for me since I plan on using it for some pano shots. I would prefer that the quick release bracket had a better clamp mechanism. The locking lever just squeezes down on the bracket and it doesn't have a security 'latch'. The bracket is the only reason why I knocked 1 star off the rating. Otherwise, it has great usability... the legs can be set at 3 different angles including a wide splayed-out angle to get it low(you can remove the bottom half of the center column when you want it low). The castings are nice and solid, the leg extension clamps are secure, and it feels like a well-constructed product. I have only used the tripod on solid ground and in calm weather conditions, but it should be fine in the boonies unless it is windy or you have it tilted over a lot. It is a light tripod so you can't expect it to be rock-solid like a heavier model. I took some bracketed night-shots to try HDR, and the pics were sharp. When combined in HDR, there was no blurriness. I recommend this tripod highly if you are only looking to spend around 100 and don't need a pro-level tripod

Had this for about 6 months & it gets the job done but I'm not thrilled with the stability. I would have gone with a heavier tripod but I bought it for travel and its light weight. Makes it portable but also more unstable. In weather and terrain, it tips and sways more easily.

    - Great for travel & is lightweight.
    - It's "Quick Release" but mine sticks a little so you have to really shake and pull to extend the legs the rest of the way (not as quick as I'd like)
    - Pan/Tilt gets in the way and is probably for videographers mostly so I'm going to replace it.
    - Is relatively flimsy at full extension and would not trust it in windy weather.
    - Feels unstable on uneven ground with camera on it
    - Long one piece center column
    - Probably best used indoors

I'm a beginner photographer and this is my first tripod. Good price for a lightweight tripod. I've used it on uneven surfaces already and the legs are pretty stable. Easy to take on hikes and folds down small. Working great so far! Camera seems very stable on the head.

Comments about Pro 340DX Tripod (Black) with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

I bought this because it seemed like a well-built tripod for the price. It's just tall enough for me to use standing up fully, and I'm 6 feet tall.

The weight capacity seems above average for this kind of tripod and I would feel comfortable putting my hefty 7D with a medium large zoom lens on this.

I don't think this usually comes with a bag, but B&H had a deal going on where you get a bag free.

Comments about Pro 340DX Tripod (Black) with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

The only negative on this tripod is that it didn't have a level (my oversight). It withstood uneven terrain and high winds with good results. Came with a carrying case. Well made, liked the ball head/pivot. Would buy again. Heavier than I expected but hiked around with it on my shoulder just fine.

Comments about Pro 340DX Tripod (Black) with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

I'll keep this short and sweet,

Spent about 2 hours looking all over the web for the best tripod for the price between weight, heigh, folded length, and durability. This one seemed to be "that" one and I am very happy with it. It feels super solid folded and extended, good height, folds up to a small size, and the head feel solid when tightening. For the price without paying for carbon fiber, this is a deal you can't be. The case is a little strange though, much larger than the tripod's folded height.

                Durability 10/10
                Height 9.5/10
                Folded Length 10/10
                Head Strength 10/10
                Case 7/10
                Weight 8/10
Likely to recommend for the price 10/10

This is a great tripod with a lot of adjustability. The leg ends are grippy and the tripod itself is very sturdy. It is easy to operate and I was impressed with how light/compact it is. When completely folded up, it is very easy to bring anywhere.

The only reason I'm giving this tripod a 4 star rating instead of 5, is because it wish it extended up a little higher. At it's highest, it is still below eye level. I'm sure it explains this somewhere in the specifications, but I still think it should be taller.

                              Pros:
                              - Sturdy
                              - Well-built
                              - Good stability
                              - Easy to pan

Not as heavy ~3.5lb - carried it around with no issues. Relatively compact though probably not meant for a typical backpack.

Comments about Pro 340DX Tripod (Black) with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

I use this tripod once or twice a week for videotaping in a room. I don't need extreme light weight for mobility, but don't want to drag a tank around. I also want a stable and durable tripod. This Pro 340DX by Slik tripod fills the bill perfectly. It's heavy and strong enough for my application. Yet not too heavy (3.5 lbs) for me to carry on my shoulder around for a while. One little problem though, it has two handles which cannot fold down at the same time to fit into the bag. So one of the handle has to be removed to put into the bag. Which can be a little cumbersome. The handle also has a little washer that can lose easily. I only have it for a week. I'm sure it'll lose. Well, it's not really matter that much.
All in all, a near perfect solution to my need. Highly recommended.

Comments about Pro 340DX Tripod (Titanium) with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

I recently purchased the Slik Pro 340 DX tripod with the 3-way pan/tilt head for a trip to the Reno/Tahoe area. With all the travel tripods on the market I had a hard time trying to find the "right" one. Since I already had the Slik Pro 700 DX and was very happy with it, I knew that the Pro 340 DX would be a good choice. The Slik Pro 340 DX exceeded ALL my expectations. From the city streets in Reno, the side of a mountain in Tahoe, and the dirt of the old mining town of Virginia City it performed flawless. It is small enough to put in your luggage and light enough to carry all day.

Comments about Pro 340DX Tripod (Titanium) with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

This is a sturdy yet light weight tripod with a very reasonable price. It's very good for a photo walk because it's so easy to carry around with and is fast to set up too. So far I've had no problems using tele lens with this tripod but I don't think my equipment is heavier than 8 lbs. So unless your tele equipments weigh more than 8-9 lbs, I don't really see any reason to go with the more expensive options.
