The tan 20.5 x 24.5 x 1.5" Drop-Front Archival Storage Box from Archival Methods is suitable for safely and securely storing prints, photos, artwork, and similar mounted or unmounted documents that are best stored flat. It is also well suited for storing musical scores, pamphlets, letters, and newspapers, and is made from heavyweight ArchivalGrade boxboard.

We all have boxes and boxes of old pictures that we have inherited from our families. Most of these photos are usually stored in attics and closets in old-fashioned cardboard boxes that are subject to degradation from humidity, water, and other elements. This storage box is a high-quality container that is not only suitable for preserving today's digital pictures but also your traditional prints.

This metal-edged drop-front box consists of a removable top and a bottom with a hinged drop-front panel at the long side; this feature allows the bottom section to be opened so that contents can be inserted, removed, or examined safely without bending or flexing them in any way and the risk of dog-earing is minimized.

The box can hold from 5 to 100 unmatted and un-sleeved prints depending on the weight of the paper used. If the prints are matted, the box can hold up to 11 prints with 4 ply window and 4 ply backing, 22 prints with 4 ply window and 2 ply backing, or 44 prints with 2 ply window and 2 ply backing.

Tan Finish: Smooth plate finish
Metal edge clamps are corrosion treated with black polyester coating and a wax-free polyester finish on the blind side; these clamps provide rigidity and high stacking strength
Construction: Manufactured from heavyweight ArchivalGrade boxboard and fully bleached, high alpha cellulose pulp; it does not contain any post consumer waste recycled pulp; paper is free of metal particles, waxes, plasticizers, residual bleach, peroxide, sulfur content is less than 0.0008% reducible sulfur
Lignin content is measured as per the phloroglucinol test with a Kappa number of 5 or less
Metallic impurities and iron content will not exceed 150 ppm and copper shall not exceed 6 ppm; no optical brightening agents are used in the pulp
Paper contains a minimum of 3% calcium carbonate (CaCO3) with a pH range from 8 to 9.5
Alkaline or neutral sizing are used; no alum rosin or rosin sizing are used
Color dyes are light-fast and non-bleeding
Surface of the paper is smooth and free from knots, shives, and abrasive particles
Board will not degrade and cause harm to the artifacts
This paper has passed the PAT (Photographic Activity Test) ISO 14523 (formally ANSI IT9.16)

            Comments about Archival Methods 20.5 x 24.5 x 1.5" Drop-Front Archival Storage Box (Tan):

I bought this box with the intent of storing my larger prints in it. However this box, made of thicker manila folder like material, was crushed in shipping. It has corners reinforced with metal fasteners, but every single one fell off by the time it arrived, and it was almost completely flat. At least it fell apart in shipping rather than when I had my expensive prints in it.

Use for temporary storage of Ink Jet prints.

Wish though someone made a storage box for 17x25 paper.

I needed a large storage box for some 16x24 prints. This box serves my needs and is sturdy enough. The drop front edge might bother some but I don't mind it and the lid is still easy to put on.

Should be made out of thicker gauge board, it's too thin for a box this big. I works but handle carefully, as after you put in enough prints the weight will cause the box to flex. Most boxes this size have the same problem.
