I've got three of these, two black and now olive. Everything I'm getting new will be olive. Also have an olive 803 satchel, and an olive F2 bag, a few olive add-on pockets as well.

Here's the thing folks - black screams steal me. Thats it. Its a camera bag. They're good, I like mine, I use mine... I even travel with mine (it never leaves my presence). I've shot weddings and dinner parties with them. I will continue to do so.

But my real photo love is nature, travel, the world, people I meet along the way... and olive is perfect. Its subdued.

Caution - your results may vary, and I take zero blame if you screw up your bag.... Here's what I do with my olive bags. I take out all the dividers, and run 'em thru the washing machine. I use a bit of bleach, and a bit of Borax. The bags take on a life of their own. They get softer, more pliable, friendlier. The olive canvas takes on a greenish brownish tone. The webbing more brownish. Domke must be using the same vendor all these years, because they all take on a similar color effect. The canvas gets a bit of "wear pattern" in its coloring, that makes it look worn and used. The edges get a highlight, not wear, but lighter color (agitation? hey we'll photographers, agitation counts!). They look great! They look like old worn WWII military canvas, but they're not worn. The color on my "washed" olive bags are all a little different, different wear, which is fine. They each have their own character.

I liked Domke when my EPOI-PPD rep came in with some back in the late 70's. I continue to like them. They are the real deal. I was a teenager then, and in my mid 50's now, and I've seen a lot of bags. These work. Nuff said.

I pack three Leica M's and 28/35/50/90 Summicrons in an F2. I pack 5dMkII, 300/4, 100macro, 50, 28, 20, and 24-105 in an F1x. Either way, I can choose to go lighter if I see fit, and the bags have also been known to carry socks, tshirts and maybe jeans - along with a reduced camera selection. I've been known to travel for a week or more with nothing but two F1x's as camera and clothing "luggage". Just sayin!

This is a long detaild review, I hope it helps since it is hard to choose online.
I have been wanting to have a canvas bag for a long time, here's what I found about this:
This bag is a canvas bag, it looks great when there is stuff in it, but has no shape when there is hardly anything in it. It is flexible in every way and can not be compared in protection wise to a bag with soft paddings all over, because this bag has absolutly no paddings except the bottom and the inserts.
It is very big in the inside. The included insert (4 slots) seems very cheap for me though. Basicly it can not accomodate the 2.8 canon zooms with hood attached. Stupid decision by Domke, since this bag is mainly used by reporters who are using 2.8 zooms. Even without the lens hoods I find it barely enough to separate the lenses, I think in the long run the lenses push each other to tight. I had to put the lens hoods in the side pocket. Domke offers wider inserts to solve this problem, to bad that you have to pay another $30 for this, when it is already a fairly pricy bag. A 70-200 2.8 lens will stick out, the height of the side panels will not cover it full, it bothers some, but not me, since the top cover is very flexible and has plenty of room under.
Besides the inserts there is plenty of room to fit 2 pro bodies with boosters and there is still some room left. As someone els also noted the velcro that holds the inserts should be wider so they can't move, but this way it is possible that they loose grip.
The side pockets will not hold bodies with booster, their to tight for that, but they could hold other accesories, a flash like 580ex, or the 3 lens hoods of the 2.8 pro zooms, if they are slid into each other. There is also 2 decent size front pockets, not as big as the side pockets, these are only good for accesories, not big enough for lenses or camera body.
There is a great top compartment sewn into the top, separated with a long zipper. I managed to fit a 400m f/5.6 easily. It is a great idea. Since the top cover is a very very flexible and kind of loose, that compartment is a huge storage place.
Also in the top cover there is 3 meshed pockets for filters and other stuff, also a good idea.
On the back of the bag there is another big compartment. Won't fit a laptop because the bag is not high enough, but could hold lots of accesories food, extra clothing, reflectors, manuals. I don't thing that it is a good idea to put anything fragile to push against your hips all the time, so probably extra clothing, books, manuals will fit better in it. Anyway I could fit at least 8 lenses in it from 15mm to 100mm, but there is nothing to separate them so you would have to use small bags so they don't scratch each other, but it is a huge section if you want to carry things in it.
That is about it, 1 main 2 extra compartments, 4 main pockets.
Overall great bag, big bag, shoulder pad is a must. This bag is not for everyone it is canvas it does not protect as well as a big tamrac, or a lowepro magnum, but it is very durable easily accessable bag, best for reporter usage. Very light also. I would recommend this, but it is not for everybody and it is not my favorite although it looks the best. My favorit is still lowepro stealth reporter 500AW, D550.

I've used a Lowe-Pro Magnimum 35 bag for over 25 years and finally switched to the Domke case. This bag allows me to carry two digital cameras (DSLR and digital medium format), several lenses, filters, chargers, and a Metz flash...with room to spare.

It's heavy but sturdy and allows me to carry everything I need for a field shoot.

        It's tough, it's rugged, and it doesn't scream "I'm a camera bag."

Only thing preventing this bag from getting five stars is the spring clips that hold the flap closed. They're kinda hard to open and there are two of them. Other than that it's awesome.

I'm small so I don't like carrying lots of gear. This bag is the exception! It hugs my body so it's comfortable. It can hold more gear than I need on a shoot, but can hold everthing I need to travel with. Shouda just bought this bag in the first place!

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

I use a 5D mark II and only Leica R lenses. I do mostly art, macro, documentary and portrait photography. When I read the comments on this being a bag not for the large, modern L-zooms, I thought "Finally!" a bag for me. And it was.Leica R lenses from 21mm to 135mm fits perfectly, even the 35-70 zoom, the macro 60mm w/ adapter, and my Angenieux 70-210 zoom. The bag is not to deep, and the "camera bay" is so easy to reach It's like having an assistant giving the camera to me whenever I need it. There is also plenty of room for other stuff, batteries, filters, cards, and even a light tripod under the top handle won't slow you down a bit. The bag forms around the body, and will not get in the way. Lots of good friction i the fabric. This is a bag for people that work, that take pictures non stop, for street, for weddings, for social gatherings, for journalism and documentary. Get something else if protection of equipment is your main concern. For me it's just a fantastic piece of kit.

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

Returned it. Great bag, and the best of its kind but it wasn't going to work for the stuff I put in it. I've been using an F-2 for 3 years and love it, but I bought a new lens and need more space. Here are my complaints, and mind you it's a really well made bag:- ALL the pockets have flaps and velcro or zippers so there's none you can slip a CF case into quickly, for example.- the 4 compartment insert has velcro dividers which are pointless - there's no adjusting anything because there is only one way it will fit, i.e. dead center. And the inside walls are that loop fabric so they aren't the smooth type as in the fixed-divider insert, and so are more likely to collect crud and dust and fuzz.- I had to get an additional insert for the new, fat lens I bought recently (a 17mm TS-E) and the lens just rolls around in too much space. This because there is only one insert big enough and it's actually too tall for this bag anyway - the velcro strips don't align. Besides which, now it's a [$] bag!- The strap handle has to be clasped shut to carry the bag, and un-clasped to open it - which is just a pain in the [potentially offensive word] by the end of the day, because I'm constantly pulling stuff in and out.Besides the specific gripes, one more general gripe about soft bags of this large size is that the stuff inside lends support to the bag - if it's mostly full it holds its shape, but if you've got open spaces inside the whole thing kinda collapses in on itself. I'm reluctantly going to stick with my F-2 until it drives me nuts and then will probably go to a Pelican case.

I've been a practicing professional for over 25 years. I've used all types of bags and cases and as far as shoulder bags go, this is the best and have used these as long. Yes, I've bought others, even from Domke, but I always come back to this model. Soft and moldable classic canvas which naturally molds to your hip is great when you have to carry all day or dig out of an area. Easy to work directly out of the bag. Good straps, good dimensions, easy access well placed pockets, adaptable inserts, all good. Being canvas, it will fade after a couple years but this doesn't affect the integrity of the bag. The only thing that is weak is the zipper for the rear pocket. I've never had a problem before, but my last bag pulled apart after only 3 years so rather than fix, I just got a new one.

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

I was using the tenba medium shootout backpack as my primary bag. It is the perfect backpack for me. I also use it for home storage and transportation. However, it is big and heavy. It is also not practical to shoot out of. Therefore I was looking for a shoulder bag to hold:

                        Canon 30d w/ battery grip
                        Canon 7d w/ battery grip
                        Canon 10-22
                        Canon 24-70 2.8
                        Canon 50 1.4
                        Canon 70-200 ii is
                        Canon 420 ex speedlite
All lens hoods and tripod collar
                        Cleaning supplies, memory cards, filters

This bag holds all of the items which makes the domke shoulder pad a must!

I can fit my 15" macpro in the back w/o zippering it closed and my ipad easily.

Only downsides are lack of padding on top and is more accesible to the elements but I'll trade that for decreased size and weight.

I am selling my new unused lowepro stealth 650 which is like carrying a nearly square cooler. Way too big, too heavy, and layout makes you have to stack too much for easy access.

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

Last year, my hobby became part of my business, and as I started acquiring more equipment, I needed a bigger bag to carry what I needed to my jobs.

What I wanted was a photographer's bag incognito, and this bag does just that. It looks more like an overnight duffel and less like a, "hey, come steal me! I'm holding a few thousand dollars worth of equipment" bag.

The olive color and rugged aesthetics are a huge plus. It's something unique that I rarely see, unlike other black, nylon-like photo bags.

On the norm, I comfortably have two Nikon DSLR's, two telephoto lenses, a wide-zoom and prime lens, an off-camera flash, plenty of batteries, charges and cords, random accessories, with more than enough room to spare.

Occasionally, I slip my 15" Mac Book Pro into the large zipper compartment on the back. It fits but does not close, but if I'm going from Point A to Point B, it's more convenient than bringing a separate bag.

The strap, hardware and construction feel and appear to be very durable, and from other reviews I've read, I can't wait to see where this bag and I will go and the stories that it will be a part of.

Bottom line, it's a great bag at a fair price. It's professional without assuming the look of a common photography bag. It has plenty of main storage and side pockets to carry almost anything you might need. It's comfortable and easy to carry either with the strap or handle. Undoubtedly a Domke fan.

For the past 5 years I've been using the Domke F2 bag but now needed a little more room to carry my wedding kit. Because I loved my F2 I decided to purchase the F-1x. Great decision ! I can easily carry 2 d200's and 1 d300, a 70-200 2.8, my 28-70 2.8, a 12-24, lens hoods for all three, batteries, memory cards, and still room to spare. My f2 has been used hard but still looks brand new and has now been relegated to carrying all my flash equipment. I can just grab the 2 bags and go. Great product !

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

I use the F-1X mainly for carrying a lot of gear for location shoots. Overall the bag is great. It is very tough, it does a good job of protecting the gear, and has ample room. It could be improved by increasing depth of the bag by about 2" and by increasing the size of the lens pockets in the included insert. These two improvements would make it easier to store and extract larger "pro" lenses (i.e., 70-200 f2.8). This lens, in particular, is too long and its diameter too large to easily fit in the pockets. Shorter lenses, such as the 85mm f1.4, are difficult to insert and extract from the lens pockets because they fit very tightly.

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

For whatever reason, everybody needs a bag at some point in time. I could not have chosen a better bag. Before I received my F-X1 shoulder bag, I had sorts of problems by not having enough bag to carry everything that is essential that I needed to carry with me for the projects I had before me. My bag really came in handy, surprisingly, with more pockets that fit than I really expected, and without being a bulky mess.

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

I looked for a year for a bag that would hold all of my gear without having to cart two bags or decide what to take out on an expedition. I wanted a shoulder carry bag and not a backpack. Shopping for bags by pictures and descriptions is difficult and uncertain, but I became convinced that one of the Domke line would meet my needs and the F-1X was the most likely prospect.I use the bag to carry a Nikon D300 with grip, a Nikon F4e, a 300mm f4, an 80-200mm f2.8, a 50mm f1.4, a 17-35mm f2.8 AF-S, a 105mm f2.8 and two SB 800's along with spare batteries, filters, chargers etc. it all fits nicely.I love the wide strap and the flexible floppy form factor. One downside is that there is no anti-gravity help with carrying the load that can be packed inside. (ha). The only real downside is that there isn't any padding except for the insert that holds the lenses.[...]

I took the straps off the flap and have no problem keeping my gear in the bag and well protected. The nonslip shoulder strap is great. This bag is built like a tank. It is all good

I own about 5 of these bags. I use them with and without the inserts, depending on what I am doing. They last a long time. For those who worry about the lack of padding - a camera bag is for carrying your stuff, not shipping it! If you need padding, get a case not a bag. Using the Streck method of packing would let you put more Dan stuff in the bag than you would believe. Highly recommended!

This bag easily accomidates two cameras (w/18-85mm and 17-250mm lens )and four (4) lenses with pockets for additional gear, filters, batteries, chargers etc. Could use some additional padding on the bottom...It might be a concern if you drop the bag to the floor withou thought.

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

There's tons of room in main compartment and lots of little pockets. It's soft so it can conform to the side of your body when it's not totally full and the wide strap means it's not digging into your shoulder.

Just sayin!

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

I've used a Lowe-Pro Magnimum 35 bag for over 25 years and finally switched to the Domke case. This bag allows me to carry two digital cameras (DSLR and digital medium format), several lenses, filters, chargers, and a Metz flash...with room to spare.

It's heavy but sturdy and allows me to carry everything I need for a field shoot.

Comments about Domke F-1X Shoulder Bag (Olive):

Just sayin!

A solid working photographers bag. Plenty of room for gear and miscellaneous stuff.
