Questions? Ask our experts:

The Sigma Macro 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens is a medium telephoto macro lens which is ideal for both digital and 35mm film SLR cameras. The 70mm focal length gives an equivalent field of view to the popular 105mm macro lens when used on digital SLR cameras with an APS-C size image sensor.

The design of this lens makes it suitable for taking pictures in all situations, from infinity to 1:1 macro, both with natural light conditions or flash.

A Special Low Dispersion (SLD) lens and two high refractive index SLD lenses provide correction for all types of aberrations and produce an exceptional level of optical performance.
Sigma's super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, and helps create a natural color balance.
The floating focus system provides extremely high optical performance from infinity to 1:1 Macro.
A Focus Limiter Switch in incorporated on the lens, improving the speed and accuracy of autofocus by limiting the focus range.

Comments about Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Lens for Sony & Minolta:

Excellent quality lens at a great price. To get the 1:1 ratio though you have to be almost touching the subject with the lens which is not great for clinical or animal photography. I found autofocus to be a bit slow and indecisive at times could be my camera rather than the lens though.

Comments about Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Lens for Sony & Minolta:

This a very nice, sharp lens for macro and other photos. It is a perfect focal length for APSC cameras but might be a little short for full frame cameras.

The only drawback is that the gearing for MF is a little too high, a common drawback with lenses that autofocus, even macros which are normally used in MF mode.

Comments about Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Lens for Sony & Minolta:

              Excellent sharpness, well built.

Drawbacks: Lousy hood. You may not want this focal length - 70 mm is a little short for tripod use on a full frame camera but is an excellent choice for an APS-C camera.

Comments about Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Lens for Sony & Minolta:

Very sharp even wide open, nice macro at 1:1 though the working distance is close. I bought this lens as a walk around for my a850, the colors and contrast are beautiful, the AF is fast. No complaints, don't hesitate if the focal length works for you !
