The Sigma Macro 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Lens is a medium telephoto macro lens which is ideal for both digital and 35mm film SLR cameras. The 70mm focal length gives an equivalent field of view to the popular 105mm macro lens when used on digital SLR cameras with an APS-C size image sensor.
The design of this lens makes it suitable for taking pictures in all situations, from infinity to 1:1 macro, both with natural light conditions or flash.

Comments about Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Lens for Pentax AF:
While this is a macro lens, it it good for all round use. 70mm is ideal for portraits. It is solidly built and performs well. The only strange feature is the metal screw on lens hood which prevents you from using the lens cap. The focus limiter can be used either to limit it to close focus or for normal focus. Used for normal focus, the 70mm can be used without focus hunting

Comments about Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Lens for Pentax AF:
Having owned this lens only for a short time I have to say the "aaaah-moments" have been a plenty. A close up shot of some flowers turns into a piece of art with this lens. The bokeh appears painted it is so smooth and ethereal. On the other hand the macro capability is so outstanding, I was able to make out my own reflection in the tip of a ballpoint pen.

Comments about Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Lens for Pentax AF:
I have been looking to replace my Pentax 100mm f/3.5 for years but found the Sigma 105 or the Tamron 90mm to be not much better than the Pentax.
This Sigma is indeed amazing, sharp wide open at f/2.8. The back ground is smooth and pleasing. This lens will likely serve two purposes - macro and portrait. While conventional portrait lenses (70 - 85) may need to stop down, they generally still have one stop advantage over this Sigma. This is where PP will do its magic. Extreme low light condition is another weakness but I have not yet encountered a situation where f/2.8 is insufficient.
Construction is way better than the Pentax, although the Pentax has held up well since I bought it more than 12 years ago. With the Pentax 100m as my reference, I found the Sigma to have better, faster, and quieter focus. The only thing I wish for is f/2.0 but then the price will likely double.
The main issue is that I will have to adjust my thinking with this wider FOV. But that is part of the fun.

Comments about Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro AF Lens for Pentax AF:
I use this for nature macro and portraits.
The manual focus is smooth and allows for fine tuning.
Due to my ignorance I thought the closest focusing distance was from the end of the lens but I think its the distance from the sensor so if you want to take lots of close up insect shots you may want a 100mm or above to give you some breathing room.
The limiter swith is a great feature and was the main reason I didn't go with the Pentax 100mm macro lens. Sigma advertises this as a 1:1 but is more like 1:.9.
