Merlin Accessory Plate

B&H # MEMAP Mfr # MEMAP
No Longer Available

The Merlin Accessory Plate is designed to support wireless microphones, video feeds, external hard drives and other devices under 1.5 lbs.

Light weight devices that weigh 1.5 lbs or less can be attached to the Merlin Accessory Plate. The device is attached by a strip of Velcro that is supplied with the plate. Video feeds to an external hard drive is attached by a fire wire output from the camera to the hard drive below. If additional weights are needed you can attach them to the end of the lower spar and then attach the plate to the end of the weight.

The Merlin Accessory Plate will hold multiple accessories at the same time. Using the strips of touch-fastener provided with your Accessory Plate you can attach accessories to the bottom. This allows you to use additional equipment without adding any additional weight to the Merlin.

    Comments about Merlin Accessory Plate:

This is a nice way to add accessories to your camera without going over the 5-lb. limit of the Merlin. It's thoughtfully designed and seems generally well made, although I do worry a bit about he plastic threads. Also, maybe it should be a little less expensive, since it wouldn't be that hard to make something similar at home.

    Comments about Merlin Accessory Plate:

I attach small monitor onto this plate using Velcro. From my 5DMKII I run a cable wrapped around the Merlin spars from the A/V port to the monitor.

When I travel I fold the Merlin down and loosen the thumbscrew on the plate then rotate the plate 90 degrees, put it in my suitcase with my clothes.

Really a great idea and well made.

        Comments about Merlin Accessory Plate:

This accessory plate is a great addition to the Merlin system. It does all that is advertised, providing a platform to distribute useful weight such as audio receivers or battery packs to the counterweight section of the Merlin. It is especially useful for cameras weighing in on the heavy end of the Merlin's capacity, expanding the options for balancing the rig...

The only drawback is that it is constructed from a durable, but not indestructible plastic material which will strip out if you do not thread the Merlin counterweights properly on the bottom part of the plate. I have run into this on one of the mounting holes, but it is probably more due to my own error than a manufacturing issue. I just wish to bring attention to the fact that care must be taken to prevent possible issues with these threads.

I highly recommend this accessory and feel that it is well worth the cost.

        Comments about Merlin Accessory Plate:

Good idea but I can't believe I paid that much for cheap screwing threads. Otherwise, I've just tested it and it seems to add a bit more inertia to the whole rig, which is a good thing.

              Comments about Merlin Accessory Plate:

I have a Canon XH-A1 with the Merlin. Took me about 15 minutes to get the trim right (one weight on the bottom - there are three holes on the bottom of the plate to add weights to if needed). Works better now on the merlin than with weights only. And I have my XH-A1 with my FireStpre FS-C! Wrap the cable around the post and its like it isn't there...
