This was purchased primarily for my Canon Powershot A590IS. The tripod mount on the A590IS is off-center but the Alpha 1000 handles it with ease. It is also sturdy enough to use with my Canon Elan IIe with a normal lense; using a 100-300mm lense makes it a bit tippy.

The size is very versatile and can be used as a table-top tripod or will extend to a height for nearly every situation. Very compact and lightweight it is perfect for travel and comes with a carry bag. Although not mentioned in the description, it does have a quick-relase mount.

The flip-locks on the legs are easy to use and hold firmly when closed. Panning is very smooth. My only complaint is that the up/down tilt is a little tight but I think that will resolve itself with a little more use. The leg braces work well and make it very stable. When used in windy conditions the stability allowed for some longer exposure times to capture crisp sunset and night sky shots.

Despite being lightweight and small enough to take anywhere, it has a solid, quality feel and great versatility. I expect it will be my tripod of choice for many years to come.

    Highly recommended!

Bought this for backcountry use (mountaineering / alpine rock climbing / ski mountaineering) because of light weight and design (wanted tripod - NOT monopod). It supports the Canon G12 well. Might not be durable in the long run, but it is everything I expected it to be. I expect it to get beat up over time and eventually break, but it will serve me well while it works; worth every penny since it isn't expensive. Could also be repaired / field repaired because of simple design. More height would be better / useful, but it's dimensions are worth the savings in weight when weight really matters (carrying a lot of gear / food into the backcountry). It will likely require a stuff sack filled with rocks to keep in grounding / stable in strong wind - which is easily remedied.

Comments about Cullmann Alpha 1000 Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

This tripod is very light. It is just right for carring along on a trip. Like some other reviewers said, it is not real sturdy, but what do you want for 16oz? It is sturdy enough to get the job done. It is small enough you can put it in a backpack. In its case it measures only 14 inches. I am using it with my NEX-7 and it works just fine. I won't recommend it for a big heavy DSLR however.

Comments about Cullmann Alpha 1000 Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

Found the tripod ideal for taking group shots, when I'm part of the group, and for taking photos of myself. At age 60, the light weight is really a plus for me too. I can appreciate the 3-way panning feature; so much easier when taking video's of my grandkids. Some folks may think the light weight makes it flimsy, but for what I use it, it's a good tradeoff.

Comments about Cullmann Alpha 1000 Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

The tripod works alright and generally has decent functionality.
The tripod is also extremely weak at the joints where it's connected by weak plastic parts. It broke after my first outing with it when compressed sideways with what would have seemed like a reasonable amount of pressure.

Comments about Cullmann Alpha 1000 Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

I bought this for upcoming trip to Hawaii and hope that this will do the job. I wanted light and small, because I already have a larger heavier tripod and it's a pain to travel with. And I would never take my larger one hiking. This one is very lightweight (that's good and bad) but it's worth a try.

I bought this tripod for my canon rebel, with a 18-55mm lens. it holds the camera steady, even at 90 deg. I wouldnt try to put anything bigger on it. it fits in my camera bag, it is very light weight. handle it slow and careful and it well do the job.
I also have a bogen, but who want to pack 15lbs for 5 to 10 miles.

Comments about Cullmann Alpha 1000 Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

I spend over ~2 wks chasing muleys/elk in wilderness areas out west each yr. We are always looking for lightweight products. This tripod is perfect for my Nikon ED50 Fieldscope.

This tripod weighs just over 1 lb, it's compact when folded and it has a quick release plate (even though it isn't mentioned).

It will help us glass animals to decide whether or not they are worth the extra mile.

Con: it's made of plastic and light aluminum, so you have to be careful with it. I'm willing to trade durability for weight in my case.

Comments about Cullmann Alpha 1000 Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

My use for the ALpha 1000 is whilst travelling. It's handy, very compact and ultralight. Can be used for point and shoot, small camcorders and very light DSLR's or the new micro 4/3's. I like it yet do find all the leg sections cumbersome to open/close. Yet, this does offer great flexibilty if on uneven ground. The build quality is about as good as one can expect from offshore and the materials, well ya get what ya pay for. The legs are aluminium, the head is plastic. Panning, the head moves freely then binds, vertical movement is stiff/jerky. The best part, it's super easy to take along and just the ticket for my casual needs. I'd recommend folks look at this one but also look around as there are others in this category worthy of comparison.

This is an inexpensive tripod but it is perfect for my needs. I have a Power Shot G2. I am an avid fish keeper and villager. I use it to photograph my fish tanks and miniature village creations and it works perfect.

Pan is a little rough and I haven't quite gotten the hang of the tilt thing but if you need a basic tripod for hobbyist use this is a good one.

Comments about Cullmann Alpha 1000 Tripod with 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head:

Very compact tripod for a small camera. I use my Panasonic Lumix TZ5 on this to take photos and short videos. You can easily put it in a backpack and take with you on hikes or walk arounds.

Great for photos and stationary video, but so-so if you want to use it for doing any pan shots (left/right and up/down) for video. The panning motion is not fluid (you'll get jerky movements), but that's not what this tripod is for. Just thought I'd mention it if you're thinking about using this to double for camera and video since I've tried it.

The legs are quality built but the connector pieces between the leg and the center shaft are thin, and it seems as if it could be bent. The tripod head is "plasticy" and the screw is not heavy duty.

I like the leveling bubble and it does have a quick release latch on it.

In all, I'm very happy with it as the compactness makes up for the shortcomings I mentioned.
