On my Nikon D90 it guarantees power for long events or week long vacations where recharging is impossible or inconvenient. I don't carry my charger on weddings/events any more. The D-90 is a power miser anyway but this addition is a joy. I have done over a 1K shots in high resolution with plenty of reserve. Having the controls on the grip are convenient for portrait shots. Only minor complaint is the shutter release is not as tactile as on the D90 body. Just be careful when removing the D90 battery access door (read the D90 removal procedure or break it) and don't loose it. With two fully charged EN-El3's your are "the (wo)man". It does add a little bit more heft to the camera with the added weight of the extra battery but weight adds to stability when a tripod is impractical. The D90 recognizes the install and notes the battery levels of both cells and when one is exhausted it automatically cycles to battery #2. If you are a serious user, amateur or profesional, this is a must have.

I purchased this product to give the D90 a bigger feel that might be better for my hands. I have not been pleased with it. I find that the way it screws into the bottom of the camera is annoying. The wheel has some play in it even when tight, no mechanical failures, just a bit disconcerning when shooting.
I also do not like the way the handgrip I have attached to it; makes it very difficult to mount on a tripod for portrait shots.
If you are just handholding, then I would say its fine. If you plan on doing a lot of tripod shots, don't go for it.
I know that everyone has their own opinion, thought I would share mine. OH, I should mention that I am using the grip with a Hakuba Grip-LH.

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
I purchased the battery pack because I have been in situations where I have ran out of battery power. Yes I have carried around a extra battery in my bag or pocket but it is nice to keep shooting. It seems you always run out of battery when you need it the most. I also like the additional area for holding the camera especially with long focal length lenses.

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
I ordered this thinking it would be a useful assist, and the build quality is OK, but I found that the combination of the D90 + loaded battery pack is much too cumbersome to carry on a regular basis, outweighing (for me at least) the added power available from 2x EN-EL3e's. I personally find it much more efficient to just carry a fully charged spare battery, and I do not have any trouble rotating the camera for vertical shots.

This grip is great and it does what it supposed to without any hitches. Compared to a freid's 3rd party grip, this one is much more solid/stable and all the buttons/dials work (every time).

I was not sure about adding the Nikon Battery Pack on my newly acquired Nikon D90 but it is a welcome edition. I don't find it too heavy but I do find it comfortable. I have not done any extended shoots yet but I have all the confidence in the world that running low on battery power will not be concern.

OMG I wish I had purchased this battery pack when I purchased my Nikon D-90 3 years ago. It makes the camera feel more ballanced and easer to grip. And takes vertical shots with ease. I highly recomend this item. The ability to use regular batteries gives peace of mind that you will not be with out battery power.PS: Don't wait like I did get it ASAP

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
Overall this is a great grip. In addition to giving you vertical controls, the ability to load up with two EN-EL3e batteries or a bunch of AA's makes this fantastic for traveling when you may not have reguular access to recharge. The plastic and rubber grip look similar to the D80/D90, but overall the quality feels just a bit less. For that reason I think this is a bit overpriced. I also own a 3rd party brand which cost about 50% of this grip which I bought for my other camera and that one, while feeling just slightly cheaper than the Nikon grip is probably the better value.
I have not had an issues with this grips performance or connections. It functions as advertised and I get the proper battery readings.

I purchased this to replace the generic battery pack I purchased less than 6mo ago - this fits much better on the body - still a bit concerned at the durability of the closing mechanism (which is what broke on the generic one) but I think my battery life is longer with this one - and it's an overall win!

Comments about Nikon MB-D80 Multi-Power Battery Pack:
I purchased this grip because my original Nikon battery was showing signs of age and I wanted the flexibility of using rechargeable AA batteries.
There are a lot of third party grips similar to Nikon. I decided to stay with Nikon, because I expected certain quality.
The grip fell significantly short of my expectations.
1. The grip has a feel of cheap hollow plastic.
2. Even when you screw it in as hard as you can the attachment does not feel solid. There is slight movement of the "top" part, which may even lead to losing the connection.
3. The buttons and controls have a different feel from the those on the camera.
Overall the grip feels as an attachment and not part of the camera. This is not acceptable for the price you pay.
My advice would be
- if you don't care about aesthetics and you need a battery grip, then get a 3rd party one for less.
- if you do care about the "beauty" of your camera either don't buy the grip or go for a (quite a bit) more expensive camera.
