Product Highlights
  • 600 TotalWatt/Seconds
  • 2- 300 W/S Monolights
  • 2- 24x32" Softboxes
  • Reflectors, Sync Cord, Stands
This is the Impact Two Monolight Softbox Kit (120VAC). The VSD300 has cushioned touch-pad function control buttons. Power is adjustable in 1/10 stop increments, from full to 1/8 power. Its model light intensity may be controlled coupled to, or independent from the strobe power levels you select. This kit provides ample power to light a 3 - 4 person full-length portrait.

The Impact VS300 is a good unit for occasional use by a hobbyist, or beginning professional. It is a good choice for building a system - its built-in optical slave fires the flash without wires, from the light of any other flash system. Its flashtube is good for tens of thousands of pops, and is replaceable.

This 2 monolight kit includes air cushioned light stands, 24 x 32" softboxes, and sync cord (Mini plug to PC).

    2 x Softbox - 24 x 32" (61 x 80cm)
  • 4 x Flex Rods
  • Interior Baffle
  • 1 f/stop front diffusion cloth with Touch Fastener
  • Mounting Ring for Impact or Bowens Monolights (except 100EX)
  • 1 Year Manufacturer's Warranty

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Softbox Kit (120VAC):

This is a great kit if you are just getting into studio lighting. The strobes are powerful enough for portraits and small groups up to five (5). I like the fact that you can adjust the power output. They are easy to set up and use, except for the softboxes that require a little bit of elbow grease to set up. The stands are "adequate" but are by no means heavy duty, considering the price. Would have been a better kit if the carrying bag was included. Due to overall weight, a wheeled bag is highly recommended.
Used this kit at my daughter's school for their (6th grade) class pics and yearbook. I was more than pleased with the results as were the kids and parents. I received numerous compliments.
As your skill improves, you may want to add another strobe or upgrade to a more complete kit. This kit has been reliable so far so I really can't complain.
Great value and affordable!

Good for the money

Pros

  • value

Cons

  • Wrong color with softbox

Best Uses

  • Hobbyist studio

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Softbox Kit (120VAC):

This is a good kit for a hobbyist. I have taken photos of mostly little things, and a little bit of people. Enough power to lit 4~5 people.

Air cushioned stands are also quite good for what you paid for. It will save you one day when you are not very careful when lowering the light as it will slow down the drop.

Now the bad part.
The softbox is usable but not very nice. The color temperture by the the flash itself is quite consistance but when you put the softbox, it will shift the color temperature by about 2000k!! You either need to use softbox for both lights or not at all. I have two small flashes that are used as slave, and it is a nightmare to balance the lights from different sources as the color temperature from different sources are simply different so much. I would not consider using these with other lights for serious work as there will be simply too much work to do before and after the shot.

Cons

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Softbox Kit (120VAC):

This kit is excellent for the money. Very strong lighting output in my studio. This kit comes with everything you need to start shooting. I use these lights in a portrait studio, they are very powerful and it's great that you can adjust the power as needed and it's simple to change. The kit was easy to set up except for the softboxes but you have got to just bend the poles and it will go together just fine. Overall excellent value.

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Softbox Kit (120VAC):

I use this product for portrait and fashion shoots. Good system for the money. It sets up well (see cons) for the most part. The system has plenty of power for my usage. I bought the carry bag and everything fits nicely in its place. A bit heavy, but all in one place. Nice kit! I am pleased!

Comments about Impact Two Monolight Softbox Kit (120VAC):

Great lights that work either plugged into the camera via the PC connection or as slaves triggered remotely by your flash (if your camera lacks a PC plug). Some thoughtful details in the soft boxes make them easy to assemble and disassemble, but the speed ring opening could be enlarged to further increase ease of assembly. Attaching the speedrings and reflectors could be easier--the fit is perfect on one of my lights but a bit snug on the other, requiring a bit of muscle to attach anything to the light, and the lever that releases the speedring or reflector seems a bit flimsy. Light stands are sturdy, but some plastic parts suggest these might not last forever. The modeling light can be adjusted separately from the strobe, which is a nice feature to have. A great price for the amount of light.
