The Alesis Trigger|iO is a highly useful device for electronic percussionists that allows your drum pads to trigger sounds on external synthesizers or drum modules, whether hardware or software. With the Trigger/io, you can use your drum triggers to play soft synths on your computer or patches from hardware synths or drum modules. Using either the MIDI or USB connectors, you can fine-tune the parameters of the triggered notes to your liking. This includes sending continuous controller messages via your high-hat pedal. You can save these setups in one of twenty programmable presets for instant recall later.

The Trigger|iO comes bundled with BFD Lite, a software drum module containing pro-quality acoustic and electronic samples.

Turn Your Drum Set Into a Synth
Assign any note from any synth patch to any pad in your set. Drums, strings, FX, pads--any sound can be triggered from your drum set.
Cross-Compatible
The Trigger|iO can read input from Alesis drum pads, as well as those made by Roland and Yamaha.
Switch Kits on the Fly
The Trigger|iO holds twenty programmable presets where you can store your setups. Connecting a foot pedal allows you to switch between setups hands-free.
Drum Module Included
The Trigger|iO ships bundled with FXPansion's BFD Lite, a professional software drum module with high-quality drum libraries, both acoustic and electronic.
Customize Your Settings
Use the simple front-panel interface to edit various parameters of the triggered sounds. Customizable trigger settings include Sensitivity, Assignment of MIDI Channels, Note Numbers, Crosstalk, Velocity Curve, Threshold, Retrigger Time and Pad Type.

Comments about Alesis Trigger|iO Electronic Percussion Trigger-to-MIDI/USB Interface:

While I prefer to mic a full drum kit, some clients prefer the convenience of triggers. I set this up in the studio and after fiddling about with the sensitivity and crosstalk settings I was able to lay down a test recording in about an hour. Too bad Alesis doesn't have a multi-volt/multi-cycle version of this otherwise I'd have rated it five stars.

Comments about Alesis Trigger|iO Electronic Percussion Trigger-to-MIDI/USB Interface:

It does what it says it does, inputs standard drum triggers (I use all single zones, so I cant comment on dual zone use) and outputs in MIDI (5 pin) with all the standards you would come to expect from a basic drum brain. Operation and performance wise, I have no complaints. When it comes to trigger management, I would like to point out some oddities. The biggest irritation is selecting each input trigger. To select a trigger input, you hit it. But, for whatever reason, if you tap a trigger lightly, it selects one input. If you strongly hit that exact same trigger, a completely different input is selected. And, only one of those inputs applies to the hit trigger, strength not-withstanding. Which one, the lighter or harder, applies to the desired input is varying between triggers, so to modify a trigger, you have to play process of elimination to figure out which one to edit. If you edit the wrong one, then youve just messed up another of your triggers. I assume this is some sort of bug with the hardware, but it is extremely irritating. Oh, and dont think that this is just an issue with dual zone trigger where I am accidently hitting the wrong zone, or it is crosstalk. All of my triggers are single zones, and when I finally get past the input selection issue, no change to gain or threshold is necessary to prevent crosstalk. The stock settings dont cause any crosstalk at all.

The amount of inputs, the setup flexibility and especially the cost made this one of the best studio purchases i've made this year. A+++

The trigger io is easy to use and fully compatible with my laptop, which I use to play drums with Supperior drummer 2.0.

It has enough settings to accurately set the dynamic range of each part of my drum set.

Works pretty much perfectly. The best for DIY drums. Maybe more inputs would be good though...

Comments about Alesis Trigger|iO Electronic Percussion Trigger-to-MIDI/USB Interface:

I bought this to convert an old acoustic drum to an electronic drum, by using piezoelectric sensors, mesh heads and VST drum modules such as Native Instrument's Battery or Superior Drummer. I wasn't disappointed by using this unit. It has plenty of options to adjust the sensibility of each trigger and their type. To my surprise I also discovered that the hi hat, bass drum, snare and ride inputs on the Alesis TriggerIO are dual trigger, which prompted me to experiment with more inputs that I originally thought. I bought it for [$] and if anyone need a unit to manage a fairly complete drum or any percussion triggers, it's a very inexpensive price for what it has to offer. The reason I went toward this unit compared to the Alesis DM5 drum module, was mostly for the price and the quality of the sound I'd be using would be more interesting with the computer VST. Also, it was plug and play immediately on my Macbook and on my PC. No need to install any drivers. I definitely recommend it to anyone who has the same kind of project and need a control module between the triggers and the drum sound module. Also if you think out of the box, you can use the triggers for other uses like making hand hit buttons or mechanism that would trigger a reaction through the computer software.

It does what it is supposed to do and it does it well! I use it only with USB, no need for A/C or other connections. Plug & Play with Windows and Cubase. I suggest asio4all drivers.

I wanted to have an electronic drum set that could be used stand alone (w/ a PC), as well as with Rock Band. After reading numerous forums about DIY mesh head eDrums, I decided to take the plunge. I use piezo triggers from [...] and the Trigger I/O with the included BFD Lite drum software.I couldn't be happier with how it all works together. The Trigger I/O is fairly intuitive to use, and has plenty of options to tweak the response of my DIY eDrums for realistic sounds.
