Comments about VariZoom S-2010C Dimmable On-Camera LED Light:

Love the Dimming feature, Needs its own power source but I knew that going in! This light has an attachment that you can use to plug-in a battery. The "attachment" is literally an attachable clip that you can tighten an locate anywhere you have a place for it--I attach to my camcorder handle where it is out of the way.

Comments about VariZoom S-2010C Dimmable On-Camera LED Light:

I'm no longer tethered to my camera by a belt pack, which is great. However this light is not as bright as most tungsten alternatives. The built in warming gel and diffuser are a great plus, but the barn doors are just glamorous lens caps to use during transport and storage.

      Good alternative...

Comments about VariZoom S-2010C Dimmable On-Camera LED Light:

VeriZoom’s on camera LEC light is a great alternative to the much heavier Halogen lights like the Lowell I-Light. I purchased the LED light because I really needed a second light and I just plain didn’t want the 15 pounds of led-acid battery and 2 pound I-Light again. The LED is remarkably bright and it’s light. I purchased the ‘Canon battery’ version. The battery adapter comes in several flavors, Canon, Sony, etc. The adapter simply clamps via thumb nut to the camera handle and accepts the type of battery for which it’s designed. The dimmer control is conveniently located on the back of the light housing and works very well (full to only 5% light). I used it for the first time a few days after purchase. The light ran constant for over 3 hours on 50% of the charge using one of my Canon BP945 batteries. For those who do wedding reception videography, the weight of the LED light AND battery is less than ½ the weight of the I-Light alone; now that’s a BACK SAVER! I plan to purchase a second and dump my I-Light as soon as I can!!

Cons: The light comes equipped with two barn doors, a defuser and a 32000K filter. All these are attached via a plastic hinge (one per side) to the light face. All are plastic and I’m sure would break away easily. However the construction of the light it self is good. The light is a little too concentrated without the defuser.

Comments about VariZoom S-2010C Dimmable On-Camera LED Light:

I had previously used Litepanels Mini to much dissappointment (sold it) and many R&Ds, I decided to lay my hands on the Varizoom S-2010. Overall, it does what it should and I am ery pleased with it, especially for its price. The coverage is wide enough for an HD shoot although I can't say it is as even as advertised -- there does appear to be some light fall-off at the corners of the frame.

The build is good and solid, however the hinges can be smoother (I wouldn't recommend adjusting tilt on-the-fly 'coz it'll cause jitter shakes). The filters are good although I wish they had done it like Sony's where they would be a spot filter. On my wish list too would be filters that are thinner so that power drops wouldn't be too great.

At night, this light is simply amazing! It does flood and fills at the same time with the right exposure on the cam. In daytime, however, it doesn't work at all for me. Fills are way too subtle and is literally useless for sun-backlighted subjects (maybe 'coz in my tropical country the sunlight is rather harsh).

Bottom line, if you're looking for an LED light, look no further.
