The Schneider 90mm lens is a six-element apochromatically corrected lens of the Schneider HM Series. Schneider has set new standards for the most stringent demands of professional enlarging techniques.
The quality of its image over a practically unlimited enlarging range meets perfectly all the wishes of the professional photographer, especially when working with the new fine-grained films.
Schneider manufactures its optics with a high degree of precision, ensuring the lasting quality of the Apo-Componon HM. The design has been adjusted to the special requirements of high-quality enlarging techniques.
The 90mm lens has been equipped with a luminous aperture scale, illuminated setting index, preset iris, and click stops which can be disengaged.
The preset iris allows the diaphragm to be opened after setting the working apertures in order to correct the image sector or focusing. Afterwards, the diaphragm can be reset easily.

Comments about Schneider 90mm f/4.5 APO-Componon HM Enlarging Lens:
I've always owned good, decent optics for my darkroom and acouple of years back, I finally got the 90 APO for my 6X7work. As I said, I was getting nice results with a 100Componon S and Rodagon 80 but as I get to about 8X10 andespecially 11X14 and up, the APO starts to show itsstrengths. It may be my imagination but it seems that sinceI've switched to pyro (stained) negatives, the APO handlesthe tonal ranges in a nicer way, especially the skin tonesand also picks up the edge effects in a better way that addssome acutance, too. I also shoot 645 and this lens tendsto be on the enlarger these days for just about everything. These are known to be sharpest somewhat wide open (stoppeddown 1-2 stops). This means that you have little depth offield forgiveness for alignment errors on your enlarger. Itgoes without saying that you will need everything straightand true on all planes to take advantage of what this lenscan provide.
