I take great care of my equipment and when it comes time to trade it for a new version I can count on getting top dollar. I know this product will prolong the good looks of my Nikon big glass.
The LensCoat slips on like a wet suit in all the places that tend to get smacked by branches or rubbed by rocks as you sneak into that perfect spot for a shot of a big bull elk.
Installation is a snap. If you are putting the lens into a padded lens bag like the stock CL L2 the texture of the neoprene does tend to hang up on the bag as you pull it out. No big problem just don't try to fast draw the lens.

Description - The Lens Coat cover for the 200 - 400 consists of 6 tubes of thin neoprene coated on the outside with a camouflage pattern and a piece of sticky tape which also has camouflage on it. The individual tubes are diffrent withds and diameters and two of them contain windows for some of the various switches and fittings on the lens. Each tube is stitched to make the tube. The stitching is off good quality.
Pros - The pieces cover various sections of the lens and are easy to fit. The external camouflage will disguise the lens to some extent. The pieces will also provide some minor bump protection for the lens and especially the lens hood.
Cons - The pieces do not form a continuous cover for the lens and so this will only ever offer very minor water/rain protection for the lens. It is possible that they may even trap water against the lens body which would be a bad thing. Two of the pieces have windows for the VR and AF banks of switches. My experience is that these windows are too small making switch descriptions hard to see. The cover provides no way to see the mem set button or the three function activation switches at the front of the lens. Since these are useful buttons it's a real shame to have to guess where they are. The neoprene is very thin and is streteched a long way to fit the lens so it will offer very minor bump protection but for such an expensive lens this may be enough. Price, given the materials and used and the limitations of having separate pieces as outlined above then I think this is very very expensive for what you receive.
If you really need camouflage on a bazooka lens like the 200 - 400VR then this may be for you but I can't help thinking that better, more cost effective options could be devised.

Comments about Lens Cover for the Nikon 200-400mm VR/VR IILens (Black):

This is the second lens coat that I have purchased, the first one for the Nikon 70-200 F2.8 which has saved numerous scratches over the last two years. This is cheap insurance for valuable lens protection. This fit the Nikon 200-400 F4 perfect and was easy to install.
        Great product protection!

Bought for my 200-400 to provide some protection from the weather and everyday bumps.
Material seems pretty cheap for the price. I had some of the backing (foam material) tear dring installation.

Found it relatively easy to put on and in addition to offering a good deal of protection against bumps and scrapes, it also offers a better feel to handling especially in cold weather. I wouldn't recommend someone buying this cover to help with rain exposure as I don't think it was intended for that purpose. One of what I believe the "rain coats would be better. I purchased the "real tree" pattern which not only looks good but does break up the visual here in the Northeast of New England.

I like how this product protects the lens. I dont use all the parts and a couple are a bit fiddley. I have covered all my long lenses with lens coats (300mm, 500mm and 600mm) with camo for wildlife work but as this lens is for more urban work i went with the plain black.

This does exactly what it says - a little extra protection from knocks, scratches which means peace of mind for a very expensive lens.

The cover is not one piece, but several separate neoprene sleeves, these go on without too much difficulty, and you can leave some off - for example I didn't put one on the focus ring on my Nikon 200-400mm as I like a precise touch. The neoprene is not super thick but it is well make with solid stitching.

It does take a few minutes of push and pull adjustments to get all the bands set right, but this is not too big a deal. It also leaves the camera controls pretty accessible, other reviewers have grumbled a bit about access to the settings, but they are behind an easy to see clear window, and I am more the 'set it and forget it' type for VR.

If you consider the cost of a high end pro telephoto lens, I think this is well worth the cost.

I purchased this LensCoat for two purposes, one was for protection of the lens from splashes and scrapes etc in the wetlands; it does this very well. The second reason was to offer some camoufage when in the blind; again it does this rather well. BUT it needs to be redesigned around the Filter Tray, I sometime use the dropin Polarising filter, and as it is now you have to pull the cover right back on itself to gain access to this filter and there is no ablilty to rotate the filter when the cover is replaced back as currently designed. Perhaps a velcro flap would be a better solution!

Comments about Lens Cover for the Nikon 200-400mm VR/VR IILens (Forest Green):

Comments about Lens Cover for the Nikon 200-400mm VR/VR IILens (Realtree Advantage Max4 HD):

The fit is good but the set does not include a cover for the focus ring. This seems to make little sense since there is one for the zoom ring.

To access the filter tray, you have to pull the cover up (no big deal) which includes pulling the knob through the small hole in the cover. Seems a possible fail point.

Access to controls should be O.K. so long as you're not in a real hurry. The lens controls are under a vinyl window. You can see them and with a bit of care can be changed.

You will need an allen wrench to remove the tripod foot - one is not included.

I'd give this a "C" and can recommend it only if it fits your style of work.

Comments about Lens Cover for the Nikon 200-400mm VR/VR IILens (Black):

I take great care of my equipment and when it comes time to trade it for a new version I can count on getting top dollar. I know this product will prolong the good looks of my Nikon big glass.
The LensCoat slips on like a wet suit in all the places that tend to get smacked by branches or rubbed by rocks as you sneak into that perfect spot for a shot of a big bull elk.
Installation is a snap. If you are putting the lens into a padded lens bag like the stock CL L2 the texture of the neoprene does tend to hang up on the bag as you pull it out. No big problem just don't try to fast draw the lens.

I returned mine immediately. It is like putting 6 rubber bands on your lens. It just did not work for me and is transparent to water and dust.
