The main frame seems to be brushed stainless steel, probable reason why it is so expensive. Made in China, but with Lacie's Quality control = good construction overall. It includes: 1 stainless steel frame, 8 aluminum bars/rails for d2 Drives, 16 small screws to attach the bars onto the frame to fasten the drives, and instructions. All contents are nicely wrapped and packaged.Even though this Lacie rack is expensive, the fit is perfect, it is very functional, and components are of good quality. I recommend getting it if these are some of the things you are looking for from this rack!Note: This rack only works for d2 drives (cd, dvd, hdd) that have the grooves on the sides, to be slided onto the rails of this rack.

Beautifully engineered, this rack takes up less space and makes my LaCie drives look like a mini server rack on the shelf inside my desk. Holds 4 drives (I currently have 2 installed) and it's compatible with all d2 drives (the older style with the LaCie logo embossed on the case, and the current generation with the "grooved" design)

I've been wanting one for a while, and B&H had the best price (even cheaper than the manufacturer's site -- and it was in stock!)

If you have one or several LaCie drives, definitely a worthwhile accessory.

This is a Deluxe, Custom rack for all those LaCie drives that are sitting around. I have two 250 MB drives in it now and will add a third for general storage. If I set them up in the top three slots in the rack, I'll have enough room for their power supplys in the bottom bay.
I will create a RAID array between two of them for increased performance in the audio and video programs I use, and I'll have a third external disk for general storage and/or backup.
The rack itself is brushed aluminum with LaCie logos above the sides. You use the hardware provided to securely attach the drives... they fit SNUG!
The overall rack is stable enough, and it has little rubber feet on the bottom that are glued on with double stick tape, and you may lose those if you are not careful.
When even the weight of the cable threatens to break a vital connection, we need things like racks to keep things in order. This seems to me to be a great rack.

Ive been using a ton of the 1TB drives and this is a way to help me keep some sort of cosmetic appearance at the work station.

Sharp edges and my package was missing a bolt. For those of us living with multiple drives, this adds a bit to our locations

We have 3 LaCie d2 external hard drives. This simple devise was what we needed to secure and safeguard our information while improving our desk space. Other manufactures should consider similar devices.

It works great with my d2s, fitting 4 nicely & comfortably in the stack, which has a nice clean design (matching the d2 brand), with an area as handles underneath when you need to move it. It also comes with little rubber stoppers on the bottom, almost invisible, but help to not scratch the surface it sits on.

This is simple, elegant, and functional (if not a little edgy..) You get the U-shaped rack (complete with rubber pads for resting in on your desk) and a dozen horizontal slats that you need to screw to the rack. The drives slide onto a pair of horizontal slats. The assembly documentation is of the wordless picture variety: convenient for the manufacturer I'm sure and ultimately harmless, but I would have saved 30 seconds had I known to not tighten the screws much before sliding the drives onto the slats.

I give the device a 4 because the documentation is feeble and the stainless edges could use to lose the burr..

Warning: the edges of the stamped stainless rack are sharp. My thumbs were leaving traces of blood on the new gear within minutes of starting to assemble it. Tiny cuts: I didn't even know I had cut myself until things started showing traces of red.

I purchased this rack because I already had two d2 disc burners on my desk and was purchasing a d2 hard drive, and liked the idea of rack-mounting them all together. I balked a little at the price at first, but must admit after assembling the rack and mounting the drives, I am really impressed with the fit and quality of the rack and am pleased that I spent the money.

Assembly was required but was very straightforward. You will need a small Phillips screwdriver to mount the rails to the rack.

One thing to note is that, although this rack has mounts for four drives, LaCie recommends placing only three d2 hard drives on top of each other due to the heat generated. (This didn't apply to me because two of the enclosures I mounted were disc burners.)

I recommend this rack to anyone with two or more d2 drives on their desk who wants the organization, convenience, and stability of rack mounting.

Stack em is better than letting them fall over. I like it, did not mind the price for neatness. Glad I bought.

If you are a LaCie lover as I am and have been collecting D2 drives, this is an essential item to save space, keep things organized and add some beautiful design to your desktop.

The rack is really well manufactured and the drives fit perfectlty. It is really robust and the rubbered legs will keep your desktop intact.

As I said, I you have two or more D2 drives, this is a must :)

If you have more than one la Cie HD this item makes lots of sense
I put 3 HD and a dvd burner in it. It makes moving them on the desktop, a lot easier. The only not so great thing about it is that even though it fits like a glove it is kind of expensive if you consider it is just a piece of steel, had I had the tools and the time I would have build it myself. And yes I thought about it before buying it.

I have 4 1TB Lacie Big Disk Extremes in the rack. For no more than it is, it's a little pricey but overall a great way to organize and stabilize LaCie hard drives that have a tendency to get knocked over.

Wow! this was a snap to setup. It is really a great rack that is well designed and rigid. I was able to stack 4 drives in the same space it takes to put two side by side.

What can I say? This is a very simple device that does exactly what it's supposed to do. Holds up to 4 LaCie drives in a stack, freeing up room on my desk for other things.

My three d2 drives have served me well over the past few months, but piling them on my table was not the way to go. When I saw the rack was available, I immediately sent for it.

Mounting the drives was a few minutes work. Basically it involved loosening the screws on the old individual stands and substituting the rails for the rack. Tightening the rack screws completed the operation. Everything fit and everything was square. After re-attaching the cables, my cool rack of three drives was ready to go.

This is a great way to clean up a messy desktop.
