bought the GP3 as a portable tripod for my Nikon D60. I chose the GP3 over the GP2 since the price tag was only a few dollars different, but I probably don't need the GP3 to hold much since I only use my camera for catching moments when I'm walking around. Basically photography is not a hobby of mine and I just needed something strong and reliable.

    Size
The GP3 fits nicely in my Lowepro Slingshot AW200 sling bag - but considering I only have three lenses for my D60 (18-55mm, 55-200mm, 35mm) and a small flash (SB-400) those that have more accessories and a bigger camera body might not be able to fit the GP3, but there are always the outer straps.

    Stability
GP3 is a solid sturdy tripod - I attach the GP3 directly to the D60 (or my Canon D10) and it feels very secure when posing. At first it's a little tricky to mount the GP3 to a pole or a fence, and it would be much easier to position the camera with the ball joint head, but once you get used to it, it's pretty easy and the camera and tripod feel solid

    Weight
GP3 is pretty light - I don't notice the weight in the sling bag, but I don't have a ton of stuff either

    Unfolds quickly
so long as you have straightened the tripod's legs prior to packing, it's very quick to pull out the GP3 and start using. It might take a second to mount the camera, but I'm not the kind to mount and unmount often and if I need to I can just pick up the whole thing and snap away

    Cumbersome
When you are trying to mount to a pole or a fence, it is a little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of how to stabilize the GP3, it's pretty fast. When you are packing the GP3, you have to straighten the legs, which depending on how finicky you are, could take a minute, since the legs are made up of interconnected spheres with rubber grips, and they tend to resist movement - which is good, but if you've mangled the legs to wrap around a pole, it can be slightly annoying = though definitely not a huge ding.

    Overall
I'm pleased with the purchase and would recommend getting it. If you find that you are the type to use the tripod a lot with weird mounting points, I would probably recommend getting the ball head mount since it can be tricky to get the camera to point exactly where you want it. I haven't since I don't really mount it to poles or fences all that much. But for flexibility and uneven and even surfaces - it's a solid tripod.

I bought this tripod for vacation photos to use with my Nikon D7000 when unable to carry a full size tripod.

It is rather difficult to adjust a precise angle without the ball head (it should be sold with the head included, it is needed). Even with the ball head (used it with BH1-01EN) it takes quite a bit of fiddling to set it up and there are limitations: vertical shots absolutely impossible, the camera will tip over (even with a lightweight 18-55mm lens).

Cannot be mounted on a pole, fence or a tree trunk, it will slide down; so better be some branches around, otherwise all your photos will be shot at ground level.

    Oscillate in strong winds.
I would not trust a heavier lens (any lens above 4-500g) with the Gorillapod; it is not stable enough to handle.

Very cool little tripod, but it's not really a tripod, it's more of a twist tie for cameras. Really sturdy and a must have.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I use the gorillapod with the optional ball head which makes it so much more versatile. I have a Nikon D5100 with kit 18-55mm lens and it supports this really well. When I switch to the 55-300mm lens and zoom in all the way you can see that the gorillapod is not as rock solid as a full sized tripod but still useful. I use it to take multiple shots for HDR. The tripod can be bent and made to fit in the camera bag I already had. Also I like to use it for shooting video. Having the camera steady while shooting makes your videos look so more professional. I have a full size tripod but gorillapod seems more useful for a lot of casual everyday photography. Gorillapod will easily attach to the top of a step ladder if you want to shoot from an interesting angle.

I used this tripod to hold the camera while taking shots in very low light when the shutter will be slow, and where there are people around and you have to be quick about your shot (on tour where full tripods are not convenient). I have not had occasion to use it under most of the other advertised wrap-around situations.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I love this little tripod. I do a lot of what would best be described as travel photography. I travel extremely light with minimal gear, and this little tripod perfectly fits the bill for those times when using a tripod is an absolute necessity. Packing a large tripod simply isn't an option. It's ability to adapt to whatever environment there is really comes in handy. It can curl and fit into any nook or crany in your camera bag, which is nice too. The only thing that I don't particularly enjoy about using this product is that it takes time to get it set up properly for each shot, and then takes time to dissasemble and stow. For the patient shooter.

This thing is a beast. I bought it thinking I'd use it for my Lumix but it is way overkill. I dare say I could probably work my 4x5 off this thing. Amazingly solid. I took the Bogen ball head off of my Manfrotto monopod and attached it to the top. Works like a champ. I shoot a lot off of uneven surfaces, such as the top of a boulder or rock, and having the flexible legs the Gorillapod has makes the job a piece of cake. A little bulky but only because I bought one too big for my Lumix case. Will be fine for the DSLR.

Its a wildly sucessful product, and mostly for good reason. When you have use for a Gorillapod, not much else will do.

This model will hold a pro size DSLR and mid size lens comfortably. They show it with the 70-200, but I am more comfortable with leneses like the 24-70 on this model of the Gorillapod. 70-200 does hold, but a lot depends on your method of wrapping the legs and the angles involved. Overall its a great product.

The Joby Gorillapod is the best tool for any serious photographer traversing the globe or planning on a long trip away. Its' size fits properly into any backpack, suitcase, or even handbag. My friend used this while we traveled SE Asia for 7 months, and was able to benefit from the size, durability, and adjustability. We strapped this thing around buses, trees and used it as a grip when shooting video. I'd recommend to anyone looking to save weight and space, especially backpackers. The only downside is the non-rotating ball-head mount, but this is still a great product.

I really love the Gorillapod and the SLR-ZOOM one is great and handles the weight of my Nikon D5100 brilliantly. I have only had it for a week but I already used it when I went hiking. It is light and compact which makes it fit easily into the backpack, and setting it up is very simple. I bought it together with the Joby Ballhead which I highly recommend, since it makes attached it very fast and simple and also it gives you a level gauge so you are can align your camera horizontally perfectly!

I use this model with a Panasonic GH3 and it works very well. Sturdy enough for extended support, as well, such as during time lapse shooting.

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

When I first saw pictures of the Gorillapod, I wasn't impressed. Thought it was just another "catchy gadget", until I saw someone using it. I do a lot of macro photography and am down on the ground trying to stabilize my camera with whatever I can find, usually a stick or a rock. My husband and I each bought one it is indispensable. I can now stabilize my camera just about anywhere and I use it for just about all my photography, not just macro. It is perfect for hiking because it is lightweight. It lends itself to uneven terrain and rocky outcrops. It is easy to use, easy to store, easy to carry and easy to fold and unfold. I would recommend this to everyone. It is all pros and no cons in my opinion!

This is a GREAT accessory for any DSLR of small camcorder! I just used it to tape a live show in Malta... wrapped these legs around the top of a seat at the back of the theatre we were performing in. It locks solid as a rock. My only regret is that I didn't spend the extra $[$]and get the ball head for the top. It was harder to align my camera with only the tripod (but that's my fault, not the tripod's) and in the end I got the shot I needed and the camera stayed firm for 3 and a half hours. A GREAT purchase :) Lightweight too and small enough to fit in my purse!!!

                                      really easy to handle with.
very flex and good for various conditions.

without the ball head you can't take pictures in all angles which is very disappointing

Comments about Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom Flexible Mini-Tripod:

I intend to use this tripod on table or wrap around some columns or branches to take photo of myself and family. The item look cheap to me especially the joints where all 3 legs merge at the top which are only fastened by a big screw that doesn't look secure to me. Also this top joint has a smaller screw where u can put a ballhead or directly mount your body or lens on comes with a small thread converter which again are flimsy and easily come loosen up if keep taking it out.

Overall I don't think it's a well made product and wouldn't try it with any DSLR maybe a prosumer all in 1 is the most.
