The Sunpak PF20XD Digital Slave Flash is an ultra-compact slave-trigger flash that comes with different slave-modes so that it's compatible with almost any digital compact camera. It is compact enough to easily fit into your jacket pocket. The unit is designed for use with cameras that don't feature a hot shoe and includes a bracket that allows the unit to be attached to the side of the camera.

This flash is designed to cover the normal focal length of 35mm or 24mm with the wide-angle diffusion panel. It works as a slave flash with 3 automatic f-stops, or can be controlled by manually cutting back on the power output (1/4, 1/8, 1/16 & 1/32).

Bought this flash for my Ricoh GRD2 but have also used on on my Canon SD800 and Nikon D80 and D50. Small and simple to use, this is a great little flash when I don't want to lug around my much larger and heavier Nikon SB800. The head doesn't swivel but the built in diffuser is a nice touch.

I bought this flash as a slave mostly and used it as main flash sometime since it is small to carry.

There are couple issues I have seen some far.
Auto function is a bit off depends on the environment, I used a light meter to check the ourput, it can be off more than a stop.
The M/S1/S2 switch is hidden! you can't use your finger to slide it unless you have long finger nail or use some tools.
The test button is hard to press sometime.

Other than this, it is a good little flash with the size of a deck of card.

Comments about Sunpak PF20XD Auto/Manual Digital Slave Flash (Guide No. 66'/20 m at 24mm):

Works great on my old Rolleiflex film camera. I don't need TTL, just little fill-flash for day-time portraits and light for indoor shots. Used at a wedding and worked great.

Bought this as a second wireless/backup flash. It reliably triggers from the camera flash (x100s) or another off camera light. I like the small size. Wish it had more power settings and it were easier to tell which setting is selected.

Use this with several small digital cameras. Makes a big difference with my flash pictures. Very easy to use. Power control for flash output easy to use and allows you to get the right output for your picture. Compact. Have tried using it as a slave and works well (have never used a slave before). No problems on four different cameras.

Comments about Sunpak PF20XD Auto/Manual Digital Slave Flash (Guide No. 66'/20 m at 24mm):

If you have manual control of your onboard flash and the abiltiy to control the on board flash power (e.g. E-pl1, most dSLRs, etc.) there is a lot you can do with this slave. Set your onbord flash to 1/16 power and the Sunpac to no pre-flash auto slave mode. Now you can use this off camera with full automatic exposure control for the off camera flash with three choises of aperture! Or if you want to shoot through an umbrella, put it on manual as well and you have five manual power settings. Great for illuminating backgrounds in a more elaborate studio setting too. A really great versatiel product at a really great price. Not a lot of power if you are shooting through some sort of a diffuser but just bump up your ISO a little bit.

Comments about Sunpak PF20XD Auto/Manual Digital Slave Flash (Guide No. 66'/20 m at 24mm):

The PF20XD is a perfect match for my Olympus EPL1. According to Sunpak via email, this flash has only 6V trigger voltage so it should be fine with almost all modern digital cameras.

It is small, light, and extremely flexible. The flash has 3 auto settings, plus manual power adjustments, and works well as a slave flash for point and shoots too. The build quality is better than I thought.

Note, this flash takes AAA batteries. It is an excellent small flash which is really light - perfect for travel and hiking. Love it.

Comments about Sunpak PF20XD Auto/Manual Digital Slave Flash (Guide No. 66'/20 m at 24mm):

This is a versatile light. I use it off-camera, either hand-held and radio triggered (via hotshoe-to-PC adapter to MicroSync receiver) or as an optical slave to another radio-triggered off-camera flash. The built-in diffuser and the manually controlled power settings make it useful for on-site portraits. I always zero in on my flash exposures manually by viewing test exposures on the camera LCD screen, and balance with ambient light if it's available and interesting. I often recruit someone (a programmable light stand, as David Hobby says) to hold the PF20 a foot or so behind a small Photoflex LiteDisc for a softbox-like illumination. The whole kit is so small that I can keep it in my camera bag. You can carry colored gels for the flash in a business card holder, plus a couple strips of gaffer tape to mount gels over the flash.

A tip: if you mount the PF20 on a Nikon AS-19 speedlight stand (foot), it is easy to gaffer-tape your radio trigger receiver to the stand for a small solid hand-held off-camera light system (e.g., light in left hand, camera in right hand). The stand also makes it easy to position the flash on any flat surface, and it has a tripod screw socket for more options.

Great little Sunpak flash which has 3 settings for incorporation for all cameras; Dslrs, point and shoots with preflash output and can be used as a fill-in optical slave.
Comes with a handy bracket and a couple of AAA batteries and is ready for use out of the box.
Excellent purchase for the point and shoot owners as the built in flash in the cameras are often underpowered and weak. Using the PF20XD with point ans shoots it will supplement the flash output and further reduce the noise level in indoor pictures.
Also used the flash for fill-in for my Dslr on overcast days Small, inexpensive and light it's great addition to any photgrapher's camera bag or vest.

I bought this specifically to use with my Fuji X100. I wanted a small flash that was more powerful and flexible then the built-in flash and this really fits the bill. For [$] you cannot beat this little unit. Don't get me wrong, it is not industrial strength, i.e. handle with care but it is really small and lots of options. I have several Sunpak flashes and they build some good products as long as you careful and don't bang them around. I could buy 4 of these for what a Fuji flash of similar capability cost.

This flash works fine for me, but watch out for the on-off switch sliding into the "on" position in your camera bag and draining the batteries. This happened a couple of times with my first one, which I recently misplaced, and just happened once again on the brand-new unit that I bought as a replacement. It doesn't take much for the switch to move!

The switch that controls flash output failed on the first shoot. Trying to exchange. I hope the next one is more reliable.

Bought a pair of these to use on a bracket as macro lights. It works really well in indoor light or on cloudy days, but the slave will not fire at all in full daylight, even in the shade.

Looking for a super compact Flash with manual control. This unit is great for that, but.,, didn't work reliably with my Canon60d as a slave, and wasn't triggered by my Cactus v2 radio remotes.

I own a Canon Rebel Xti and I've wanted to be completely wireless with my optical slave flashes. However, the pre-flash from the onboard flash can't be disabled so I had to have at least one of my flashes wired to the camera. The PF20XD fits my needs perfectly. It is a simple flash that triggers my optical slaves. It is good timing too because my onboard flash hasn't been working lately, although the hotshoe still works. I like how it has simple controls to dial the flash down. For the price it is great. It'd be nice if it was a tad smaller, but really, I can't complain.

Does everything it says. Small, nice flash output for its size, well-built, with the multiple auto settings and the diffuser screen built it, what more can you want?
I use it for fill flash but I have used it as my primary with no problems.

I use two of these as kickers and one for background fill for location portraits with a Canon G3. They have plenty of power for the purpose. Only negative is that the camera preflash isn't always recognized so it takes a couple of test shots to know whether to set the slave mode to "preflash" or "single flash". Once set, they work fine.
