Comments about VariZoom VZMEDIARIG DV Media Rig:

its tiring and cumbersome to have to hold a video camera of the size I own while capturing footage for a good length of time. This product addresses that issue. I would say it is one of the best stabilizers on the market and what is more appealing it is well priced! if your have a pro large video camera then do not bother looking further.

Using the VZMEDIARIG to video Church services, using a run and gun format.
This rig allows the convince of tripod that moves the platform will keep your shots stable but also allows you the freedom to move.

There is a small learning curve to get used to the rig, but that is to be expected.
Great Choice to start you off.

Comments about VariZoom VZMEDIARIG DV Media Rig:

I tend to shoot run and gun — outdoor performances and demonstrations. The 6ish pound Panasonic HPX250 is not much to carry, as long as I keep the lense really wide. But after an hour or two, fatigue does set in and the shots become less steady.

The Varizoom renders my Panny weightless, no fatigue at all. On top of that, I can shoot steady medium shots and can go to longer shots if needed.

However, I have not figured out how to walk steady with the rig. That part is not bad, but I'm still steadier holding the camera by hand if I'm walking. I'm not blaming the rig for this, though. It took some practice to walk handheld steady, so maybe my walking with this rig will improve.

Comments about VariZoom VZMEDIARIG DV Media Rig:

I'm currently shooting a project that needs several moving shots. A steadicam was completely out of our budget so I went looking for a shoulder mount. Oddly enough good shoulder mounts for actual camcorders (We're shooting with a Panasonic AG HMC40) are rather hard to find as most are concentrating on the DSLR market now. I liked the motion features of this particular rig but was a little concerned about the weight limit of 7 lbs. The HMC40 is well under that but I'm running a full rig with follow focus and matte box so I'm over that limit. I found that it handles the extra weigh just fine and even if there were problems you can lock down the spring loaded support rod and turn it into a solid rig. There is still the tilt control at the handles which is more than most shoulder rigs have. You would only lose a little of the vertical rise at worst. The rig is solidly built and one of the most affordable shoulder mounts out there. I refer to it as my Poor Man's Steadicam. The promotional video at VariZoom really helped sell it to me. Check it out if you're interested in this rig.

This is a very affordable, well built shoulder mount. I already own one of these, this is my second one. I love the support pod (rod). I shoot with a DSLR and this rod allows me to focus pull my own shots. Works great.

Great for the price. It makes a really good job as a [$] lightweight steady-cam. The belt is badly made though, after 72 hrs of heavy use it had already a big hole... anyway, it does the job. We use it with a XDCAM EX-3 and a 5D MKII for documentary purposes. Good good good. Cheers from sunny Mexico. One more idea: It might work fine with small 16mm cameras (bolex or even the glorious arri sr series)

We will use for the first time this Sunday so I pray that it will work fine but I know it will its a great piece of euiptment!

Comments about VariZoom VZMEDIARIG DV Media Rig:

I tried out several shoulder-mounted units at NAB this year and thought this was the best of the bunch. It is adjustible enough to accomodate the way I like to shoot. The flip-out monitor on my Canon XHA1s is so small that I have to use the viewfinder. With the rig I can get my eye right up to it, although my neck still gets stiff after a while. The rotating accessory mount is okay, but there's not enough room for an external monitor there. Mounting one on camera top would make it cumbersome and top-heavy.
Varizoom should find a way to add more and different types of accessory mounts without adding much weight.
I am able to mount a boom mic and a light without losing balance.
The shock rod makes it possible to get really stable shots, but walking is still tough.
A small zoom controller like the VZ Stealth works perfectly on one of the handle bars.
Need to be careful when setting the unit down on a table with the camera mounted. The handle bars can fold under if the side knob is not tightened.
In all, I would highly recommend this rig to those who can't afford a vest stabilizer. Anything to not have to shoot hand-held.

Comments about VariZoom VZMEDIARIG DV Media Rig:

For the price, nothing beats this rig (except maybe for the much more expensive steadycam rigs). I've used the VZ-LSP before this (for XL1s / XL2) and I've to say that the DV Media Rig is simply marvelous for wedding shoots (using XH-A1 right now). The adjustments are aplenty, simple, and on-the-fly types so fitting is superbly customizable. The counter weight works wonders, and the padding helps with hours-on-end shooting styles like weddings.

                            Pros:
                            (1) Multiple motion on-the-fly.
                            (2) Very fluid motion.
                            (3) Mre discreet than a steadycam (which is good in weddings).
                            (4) Multiple adjustments to suit varying shooting styles.
                            (5) Very comfortable (I can shoot with it 4-hrs straight... with a stiff back!).
                            (6) Feels solid and sturdy.
                            (7) Space for other gadgets (I attach a Canon controller and Varizoom LED Light battery adapter on mine).

The only gripes I have are:
                            (1) There is no resting "hands-free" capability like the LSP. I need to hold it at all times. In other words,
                            (2) I wish the chrome/silver parts are black instead (more discreet).
                            (3) The spring absorber axis (that meets the camera bar) needs a "safety" lock for assurance. Right now it just slots in with no locks (though I suspect this gives t that fluid motion).
                            (4) I have to set-up the rig each and every time for each shoot because there is no case for its "ready" form.
                            (5) I feel some small parts need a spare when purchasing new (like the arm washer) since although they are durable, they are small and can be lost.

I love this rig and it has helped my production tremendously!
