I received this bracket as a gift and used it for about one week with a Canon 5D and a 580EX. The are only a few issues. First, you can only lock the bracket in the vertical position, not the horizontal position. Second, the TTL Flash cord does not connect properly. The leads do not line up properly and the camera loses TTL flash unless you wiggle the flash in the hot shoe. Third, at full extension, the arm of the bracket feels a little bit loose. Fourth, the trigger button feels cheep and is made of light plastic. Other than that, the bracket is good. The flash gets very high and the grip is comfortable. It is lightweight and relatively strong.

      Expertise: Beginning Pro

Problems Encountered: Off Camera TTL Cord does not line up with leads on my 580EXTrigger button is cheap plastic.

This bracket is so poorly designed on so many levels. Firstly, the cable assembly that attaches to the camera flash sync is poorly made. I had to fuss with it a few times in order to get it to work. When I am paid to photograph I don't have time to play around with poorly constructed cables. There is a snap-lock when the camera is in the landscape position BUT not in the vertical (portrait) position. DUH!!! The user has to slide over a rod to stop the camera from swinging out if you don't swing the rod into place. Really an awful design. Also, the hot shoe for the flash does not stay in place on the top bracket. The hot shoe has 2 screws that prevent it from sitting flat. OMG, are they joking? No matter how tight you turn the hot shoe retaining screw, the flash will still easily turn. Brilliant!! And finally, the rubber self-stick mats that go on the top of the flash bracket do not stick. When the flash turns (as stated above) the rubber mats turn as well. Just a worthless product, in my mind. I did purchase Custom Brackets Digital PRO-E Camera Rotation Bracket and can not be happier with it.

Comments about RPS Lighting RPS Digital Flash Bracket for Canon EOS Digital:

I bought this to replace a flash bracket that was over twenty years old. To be honest I kinda wish the old one didn't break, but time marches on. I was very pleasantly surprised, this bracket was just as advertised.

Comments about RPS Lighting RPS Digital Flash Bracket for Canon EOS Digital:

I use the bracket to get the flash off the camera. I have an extension cord for the flash/camera connection, but it gets tiresome holding the flash with one hand and the camera with the other. This bracket has an 18" extension arm that allows the flash to be positioned well above the lens. With some form of light modification (a small softbox or a Lumiquest Bounce) it gives great butterfly lighting. Don't know how I ever got along without it.

that the flash tightens on, immediately fell off.

Only thing about the one I purchased is that a little lever that allows the bottom arm to fold up (so it fits in the black carrier) was a bit bent.

I found this bracket very easy to use and set up within min. I had my camera mounted and working I expecially liked the off camera sutter release. This bracket was very lite and portable I found the telesopic flash mount wonderful.

Comments about RPS Lighting RPS Digital Flash Bracket for Canon EOS Digital:

I did a fair amount of research on flash brackets before making a decison to purchase this one. The trigger is very touchy, and can rapidly fire shots if the camera and bracket are laid on it's back. Ah, the fun of the on-camera delete function! Once I used this bracket for about 15 minutes I felt very comfortable with it. Switching between landscape and portrait is very quick, this is a huge plus for me. However, the reason I would not suggest this product, and the reason I gave it 3 stars, is a fit/finish issue. Once the camera is mounted to the bracket, the bottom horizontal bracket rattles and is not tight to the vertical support. Positioning the camera tight against the vertical support helps, but the risk is run of maring or damaging the finish on the camera. All funtions of my 40D and 580EX work perfectly with this unit. Had it not been for the rattle/looseness issue, I would have suggested this product. [...] I am in the process of setting up various lighting equipment that will eliminate the amount of flash I use.

Adequate. Not so great: Connections to flash bracket and to camera don't always make a good connection, particularly the connection to the camera. Bracket is somewhat flimsy and not as secure as it could be. Pros: Does get flash away from lens.

This is the first time using anything like this. It worked very well for me when shooting a wedding. It was quick and easy to switch form horizontal to landscape. With the camera, heavy lens and flash, it was quite heavy after about 3 hours of pretty much continues shooting. Would highly recommend it for anyone needing something like this for their photography.

This bracket has worked out fairly well for me except the original off-shoe cord lasted two months and I'm waiting for the remote cord to go next. The replacement cords are much better but not compatible with the Canon EX580 Mk II flash shoe boot. The camera plate also tends to flex after using it for a year; play in where it slides in the verticle rails.

It is big, but there's so much that can be done with it. The swithcing from vertical to horizontal shots with my Canon EOS30D is done in a fraction of a second. You can take pictures with either hand at any position. I did search around for which bracket to choose from. As much as this bracket costs, it well worth the price. Comes with a carrying case which is very useful.
