The AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II Lens from Nikon is a compact, lightweight standard zoom lens that has a 3.1x zoom range and is compatible with DX format Nikon DSLR cameras. This lens offers an equivalent focal length in 35mm terms of 27-82.5mm and will conveniently cover everything from wide-angle to short telephoto perspectives, incorporating tight interiors to standard snap shots to portraiture.

One Extra-low Dispersion glass element and one aspherical lens element correct chromatic and spherical aberrations for sharp, color-accurate imaging and Super Integrated Lens Coating enhances light transmission and reduces ghosting and flare. I was looking for something inexpensive as a temporary wide zoom lens for my D2X and I bought this one.
Surprisingly it is very sharp something you don't expect from a 100 dollars lens.
Focus is not super fast but it is fast enough for me.
I'm just very happy with it.
No softness at any focal point.
    Love it.

This lens came as the kit lens with my D40 camera. The lens has a plastic bayonet mount. The plastic rails lasted just over one year before two of the three rails broke off. Preliminary repair estimates from Nikon indicate that it will cost $77.00 to repair for [$] lens. Nikon should not be making lenses with plastic mounts no matter how basic the lens is meant to be.I would not recommend this lens to an enemy! It would be helpful if B&H would indicate the material of the mount on the specification sheets.

This is the lens most often on my camera body. If I had the bucks I'd buy several prime lenses but in the meantime, this is a good solid lens for most pro-am general work.

Got this to replace an earlier version of this lens that had broken. It is on a early style DSLR Body so I was concerned about compatibility but was assured by Customer service that this lens would work with my camera body and it did. So good to have this lens back in my arsenal.

I bought this for my girlfriend to use with her D3200 and it's been great. For an inexpensive, standard zoom lens, this thing really gets the job done. I don't know that there's any real downside to having this, unless you're trying to take some quality closeup shots from a longer distance. Worth the money!

I've recently been getting back into photography, and I had a lense exactly like this, only it was broken. This was the least expensive and quickest shipping I could of gotten anywhere besides going into a camera store. It was a very good price, arrived in just about five days, and works perfectly. I love it so much.

I have a Nikon D40 that I dropped last year and when I did the lens broke. Every time I tried to find this lens to replace it either the sites I tried had it out of stock or it was over priced. I was so happy when I found it on B&H's site. The price was perfect, shipping was free, and I decided I couldn't pass it up. I received it by the date quoted and it was perfect! The lens itself is a great lens. Definitely my go to lens for my camera.

Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II Lens:

...and perfect for the smaller DSLR bodies. I am always amazed at the clarity and sharpness of this, the king of kit lenses. Nobody can go wrong unless you're needing professional-level performance. I bought a replacement for my D40x. The only bad thing about it is they really put a bare-bones AFS motor in it that is not very reliable. My original kit lens stopped focusing after about 2 years.

Comments about Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II Lens:

This lens is great-I use it most of the time, and I love the fact that it has a silent focus...when it's on auto focus, it silently focuses the picture. When I'm asked to take pictures during a church service, the silence is most appreciated!
