This is small, handy, very sharp and cheap. What more can you ask for? Although I am more used to shoot with my 17-55mm f/2.8 which is one of the heaviest lens in its class, this one solved the problem when i want to be more mobile with my D200. I also recommend reading the review by ken rockwell at his website about this lens. go to search and type Nikon 18-55mm ED II. Take note that ED II is a lot sharper than the older version which only says 18-55mm ED. Dont think twice about this lens, this is one of the best Nikon lens that i ever used. Compared to my 17-55mm f/2.8 Nikon G lens which is worth $1,100.00, the image quality of this $120.00 is almost the same. They will only differ in the aperture and speed in focusing in low light situation, but if you are not into that, go ahead and order this now. This is even better than the 18-135mm, 18-70mm.

    Expertise: Active hobbyist

    Problems Encountered: Definitely none.

This lens came as the kit lens with my D40 camera. The lens has a plastic bayonet mount. The plastic rails lasted just over one year before two of the three rails broke off. Preliminary repair estimates from Nikon indicate that it will cost $77.00 to repair for [$] lens. Nikon should not be making lenses with plastic mounts no matter how basic the lens is meant to be.I would not recommend this lens to an enemy! It would be helpful if B&H would indicate the material of the mount on the specification sheets.

I was looking for something inexpensive as a temporary wide zoom lens for my D2X and I bought this one.
Surprisingly it is very sharp something you don't expect from a 100 dollars lens.
Focus is not super fast but it is fast enough for me.
I'm just very happy with it.
No softness at any focal point.
        Love it.

If you have never used a DSLR, buy this lens with a Nikon 55-300mm lens, it will give you everything you will need! I am now upgraded to all F/2.8 lenses, so this lens is now obsolete! wouldn't recommend this to a Pro, however they should know why. but for a beginner, its amazing! it has wonderful boketh!

The original lens that came with my Nikon D40 broke, so I purchased this as a replacement. It works beautifully and while not a high powered distance lens, it is great for day to day casual shots around the house, or in close quarters.

Comments about Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Autofocus Lens:

After my D80 fell off its tripod mount and destroyed my 18-70mm lens in the process, I needed a lens for all-round use that wasn't particularly expensive in case when I upgrade my camera, I purchase an FX rather than a DX model.

This lens was extremely cheap. I am surprised by how light it is in comparison to the 18-70 mm it replaces. I am very happy with the photographs I get from it.

It is extremely good value for the price, and I'd recommend it for anyone who wants a good all-purpose lens.

This is a kit lens with my D5100. I've taken this lens and the 55-200mm on two extensive driving trips. In my opinion the still pictures with either lens is superb. In video mode the 55-200mm is super smooth while zooming slowly; but this 18-55mm is irritatingly jumpy. However the 18-55mm has done exceptionally well for even small insects and tiny wild flowers. For macro work the secret is tripod, ample light, and 5 sec self timer plus 'one second shutter delay' after mirror retracts. I would advise any friend purchasing this lens to pay attention to the smoothness of action when zooming slowly during video.

This lens was originally supposed to be part of the package when I bought the body. I opted out and instead bought a 50mm lens, which is great, however it it not AF. Being new to photography, I didn't know the difference. All of my pictures were blurry and I was getting frustrated. At Christmas, I learned even the most experienced photographer relatives used AF lens. I rushed home, and found you had the best price and ordered. I am loving it!

My daughter was given a Nikon camera with manual lens. The camera is no longer made and she was not using the camera due to the manual lens. I found this lens and it works great with the camera. Now my daughter is capturing pictures of my granddaughters everyday. Well worth the research and the money.

Comments about Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Autofocus Lens:

I shot "film" for years and the transition to digital was an obvious step. My 35MM camera was a Nikon and since I had several lenses, my new digital was going to be a Nikon also. After getting the new camera, I determined that a new lense would benefit my work. I did a lot of reading and research and the 18-55mm Nikon zoom is most assuredly the right choice for my needs. I've used the lense on most of my production shoots and it does an outstanding job for the majority of my needs. Fast Auoto Focus, a high quality lense, and an outstanding performer!
