I have a Sony HDR HC3 HD camcorder I have had since 2006. Other than using digital tape it is a nice unit. Lately I have been using it to tape both my daughter's volleyball matches and my tennis matches for review. The field of view at wide angle is pretty good but I wanted more particularly for tennis in order to capture all the action. This inexpensive lens works great for that. I have used it both at night and during the day and other than capturing a wider view the picture quality seems undiminished. It came with two ring adapters, a carry bag, and a hard cover. For the price it was a great deal. It is somewhat bigger than I expected however when I am using it I always have The camera on a tripod or attached to a fence so its size and additional weight are not a problem, but are something to consider if you plan on doing handheld shooting with it on.

The lens does what it is supposed to. I use it for recording sporting events.
It's good quality for the price and is well designed with one exception.... for some reason Sony didn't design a lens hood for it and didn't put threads on the front so you can attach a lens hood. The front element is almost flush with the front of the lens and the lens is very susceptible to lens flare.
Because it is a wide converter any lens hood that you would use would be very large to keep it out of the picture... but large as it may be it's still a necessity to get the most out of this lens. As it is with there is any side light at all the focus will soften and given a little more side light and you will have flare issues.
I would happily pay a price equal to what I paid for the lens to get a lens hood for it as it would sharpen the picture and get rid of the flare issues.
For those who complain about the size of the converter I just say you can't fight the laws of physics. Sony did a good job of making it as small as possible.

I record sporting events and can't get much of the field from any position where it's safe to put up the camera. This lens has given me about 25% more playing surface from the same position with no decrease in clarity or resolution.

Use it on my Canon M300 camcorder, it works great. I didn't notice any sharpness degredation.
It does add some distortion to the image, but that's expected, and it's not too much

Using with my Canon HD camcorder. Great product for the price. Nice sharpness and contrast. Causes a bit of barrel distortion and is prone to lens flare.

I was very impressed by the lack of distortion created by this lens, but that image clarity may be to blame for its large size and minimal conversion (0.7). If you need to add just a little width to your field of veiw, this is a great lens. Up close, don't expect too much.

I bought this lens converter for shooting a large marching band. It widens the field of view quite a bit. It does not seem to distort the image through the zoom range or eat up the light as my old lens made the video considerably darker and fuzzy when zoomed in. I dropped the brand new lens on the concrete the first day but it just bounced an still worked perfectly.
Can't beat it for the price!

I use this lens with my canon m300 to shoot family video. It really allows you to capture more objects or people in the view of the shot. The only minor, and I mean minor negative might be that it is big. HD camcorders are getting smaller and smaller so it is noticeable. But it still looks cool

this Sony W/A lens is solidly made and it gives just enough extra shooting width , with minimal distortion, for me to leave it on most of the time.
I use it on my Sony CX110E handycam.

Overall, great product and amazing lens. The only negative as others mentioned was the large size. I wish the lens was smaller, but no performance issues, just cosmetic.

The price is great. This Sony lens fits perfectly and works brilliantly. It's not a high quality German grand like Carl Zeiss, but for what I am using it for it is perfect. The price is the big selling point. For this price this made in the Phillipines lens is more then a bargain.

It's excelent! Easy to use, lightweight. Obviously, you need care in handling (like all other lenses). I recommend for those who need a slightly larger angle in the scene.

This conversion lens brings much more scenery and people into the shot but has a nasty side effect: With the optical image stabilization engaged on the camera and its zoom set to full wide, you see black around the edges of the shot whenever you move the camera! To make matters worse, you don't notice this until you playback your video. **sigh** (Yes, I did have "wide conversion lens" selected on the camera.)

i bought this piece coz i like lanscape photographing, so i think why not go wide with my camcorder also. it turns out my camcorder already has a pretty wide angle lens. and i don't have too many chances to use this. plus, you have to take the UV lens off every time you try to connect this one. so think about the occassions that you will need a very wide angle lens before you buy this one.
