The Impact DVS-WA45-37 37mm .45x Wide Angle Converter Lens with Macro Capabilities screws onto the front of the camera or camcorder's zoom lens. This provides an even wider angle of coverage for those times when you are shooting in a confined space, or for shooting scenery. The wide-converter is useful indoors as well, since you'll be able to fit more of your subject into the picture frame.
The DVS-WA45-37 has macro capabilities so that you can get those great up-close shots. In addition, this lens features 49mm filter threads, so that you can still use your favorite filters.

The Impact DVS-WA45-37 is a very interesting little lens. Little, because it's much smaller in diameter and length than most wide-angle adapter lenses. The lens is designed to be a close-up adapter in addition to its wide angle capabilities. If you unscrew the front section of the lens, it becomes a good quality diopter that allows the HF-10 to shoot macro scenes while zoomed in. For example, you can literally fill the entire frame with a dime. (The Canon HF-10 has macro ability without this lens, but you have to be zoomed out.)
All supplemental lenses lessen image quality. They are all prone to flare by almost any light source that hits the front element. They introduce chromatic aberration or red/blue color fringing at the edges of the picture and barrel distortion. Any supplemental lens also slightly reduces resolution and contrast. As far as wide angle adapters go, this one is above average. (I haven't tested the more expensive Canon model as of this posting.)
Things to remember, both the front and rear elements must be perfectly clean and free of all smudges, hair, dust, etc. Anything on either element will be seen in your video. The design of these lenses prohibits the use of screw-on filters or sunshades without causing serious vignetting. Use these lenses only when you need a wide angle view. Don't zoom way in when using the adapter. Remove any adapter lens when shooting normal and telephoto scenes.
While testing this lens with a Canon HF-10 camera, we noticed vignetting in the lower left and right corners of the under-scanned 1080i image when the camera was fully zoomed out. (The camera's LCD viewfinder doesn't actually show the entire recorded image.) This probably won't be a problem for most consumers, but to clean-up the edges of the image, we had to zoom in slightly which gave the adapter more of a .75X focal length multiplier rather than its advertised .45X.

Used on Panasonic HS-100, and used in conjunction with either UV filter or Cir Polarizer. When using either filter, vignetting (or seeing the edges of the lens, like looking through a tunnel) is VERY noticeable. On my usage with the filter, I had to zoom to get beyond the vignettes and made my wide angle practically null.On a plus side, if used without filters the vignetting is barely noticeable. Also the macro lens is amazing. If you are in need of just a macro lens then this is the one to get. Gives my videos flare when I am focusing on something small. Also on a side note, wide angles are not for zooming through and therefor this one looses clarity when zooming past 4x-5x.[$]. Only that it is truly not designed for it.

Often filming in very small rooms but wanting to get wider angles...this lens offers an economical way to accomplish that. Sure there may be better glass out there...but at this price point it is a good value.

Comments about Impact DVS-WA45-37 37mm .45x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
I just got this lens to add a little more to the shot when I'm in a tight area, and it works. I seen a lot of complaints about this lens, and wonder why do people think they should get the same results from a lens that costs ½ or less as much? all I can say is you have to learn it's weakness and strengths and stay within them. I use this on my hdr1000u and it gives me about what I expected from a lens at this price, so until I get the $$ to get the lens specially designed for my cam, I'm gonna work this lil baby at its fullest.

This came with my Sony HDV 1000u which did the camera no justice. Every time I zoom all the way in the picture became blurred. When I took the camera with this lens to a camera shop, I was told that I was better off cutting off the bottom of a coke bottle and sticking it onto my camera. May be a good option for a standered camera but not a high definition

Comments about Impact DVS-WA45-37 37mm .45x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
The lens works extremely well, although the large angle can cause some headaches. Adding on any filters without stepping them up to a larger size will cause the filters to be seen in the image. Also, if you want to use a lens hood, be aware that any 46mm lens hood will be seen in the shot. Besides these minor issues, I've been extremely happy with the purchase and impressed with the footage I've been getting.
I am currently using the lens on a Canon VIXIA HF10.

Black ring around the edges. Getting the black ring out will bring you to square 1 AGAIN. Waste of money and efforts.
Dont get his for your Sony CX550v or equivalents.

Comments about Impact DVS-WA45-37 37mm .45x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
I bought this for my Canon HG-20 and also bought a wide angle lens hood to go with it. The hood can be seen with the wide angle lens, so I guess that shows that the lens does widen the view considerably. I did find a little more aberration when it was zoomed out than I thought it would have and you can't zoom in too much before it gets out of focus. Over all it has a small sweet spot and it's cheap. So, I guess you get what you pay for. I thought I would be fine with a cheaper lens and now find myself looking for a more expensive one.

For the price, I wasn't expecting a lot... but WOW what a great value for the money and a must have for anyone that plans to shoot indoors. You will be amazed at how much more you pick up with this lens on your average camcorder. I picked it up with the VIXIA HG-20 AVCHD HDD CAMCORDER. I have to say every time I go to use this lens I get a huge smile on my face knowing I'll be getting exactly the coverage I need. If you want professional quality, get a pro camera with a pro lens. For everyone else, this will do just fine!

Bought this item with HF-100 HDV FLASH MEMORY CAMCORDER. Good item, but not necessary to have. I just bought this item to see if I can get a little more angle out of my cam. Make sure you also buy the UV lense as well as the cleaning kit to make sure all your lense is clean and smudge free. The only thing I didn't like about this lense is the fact it's silver. My cam is polished black. Minor annoyance, but I can live with that.

Great accessory for my Canon HG20. Brings the needed W/A for close up indoor shots and wider landscapes. Small and compact, so it fits in my small camera bag. I would have given it 5 stars, but at full wide, you get vignetting around the corners. You need to zoom in a bit to eliminate that shadow. Therefore the ".45" adapter is reduced to maybe a ".50 to .55" adapter.

Of course some high definition quality is going to be sacrificed, but that's expected. When attached to my HF100 it works great. And much needed. It works as advertised and to those who complain about zooming issues, what do you think is the sole purpose of this lens? "Wide" angle. Not zoom.

Comments about Impact DVS-WA45-37 37mm .45x Wide Angle Converter Lens:
This was the cheapest Wide Angle lens for my camcorder (a Canon HF100). When the camcorder is zoomed out to the widest, the picture quality is very good. But, if I zoom in more, the picture quality gets very bad. When I zoom in all the way, it is unusable, everything looks out of focus. But I can't complain, it was very cheap.

This lens does a nice job with its wide angle and macro features. You could pay more and not do better.
A friend had suggested leaving it on all the time because you could zoom through just fine for your long distance telephoto shots. My experience is that this causes a very noticeable softening distortion to the picture and creates unwanted highlights to the image.
If you think you'll be using your lens on wide to medium most of the time, this lens can stay on most of the time.
