The MiniView 4-Port USB KVM Switch with Built-in Cables and Audio Support from IOGEAR allows you to share a single keyboard, mouse, speakers and monitor between four computers. It features a hot-key interface for quick and easy switching. The KVM Switch works with computers that use USB connections for the keyboard and mouse and a VGA connection for the display. It installs easily, with clearly labeled ports to connect cables. The switch supports resolutions of up to 2048 x 1536 pixels. This is a great solution for anyone who wants to share a single monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers between multiple computers.

4 Computers; 1 Desk
Web designers often have to test pages on PCs and Macintosh computers and video editors who use the Macintosh platform can still see the appeal of the gaming options available on Windows PCs. This KVM switch allows you to easily share a single monitor, keyboard, mouse, microphone and speakers between multiple computers, regardless of your reasons.
USB and VGA Support
The KVM Switch works with computers that feature standard PS/2 or USB connections for input devices and VGA for display output. VGA resolution of up to 2048 x 1536 is supported, making this a great solution even for large displays.
Hot-Key Switching
The switch allows you to change computers via pre-programmed hot-keys. This allows you to easily change from one computer to the other.
Cable Flexibility
The KVM switch can connect to up to four computers simultaneously. Two cables are built into the switch and two are detachable. This allows you to reduce cable clutter when using the switch with fewer than four computers.

I bought this machine because I have an older PS2 mouse/keyboard KVM switch that turned out not to be Linux compatible, and this was the only such unit that I could find a recommendation for with Linux. It works very well; it is currently running with one Unix and two Linux machines. I also like the switched audio feature; it lets me drive a receiver and better speaker system from all three systems. One downside is that one machine doesn't load the USB keyboard driver until after one needs to make a boot selection, and so I have to simply wait for it to time out. But that's a problem with that machine's BIOS, not this unit. Another machine had to have a BIOS setting revised to include a USB keyboard/mouse. Other than that, the switch has worked faultlessly, and I'd readily buy another.

Hooked up with 2 macs, a PC, and an XBOX. This brilliantly stupid design features audio signals sharing the same connector and/or cable with video and USB signals on KVM side, without the benefit of shielding to separate them. The predictable result is noticeable video and USB noise on the audio channels; you can actually hear your mouse clicks, rolling scroll wheels, and rustling from video frames in a browser window. Video performance is acceptable, but any audio application involving music or playing movies is going to disappoint. The hot key switching works almost like the manual says, although the power supplied by the box to the keyboard is puny, since it depends solely on the attached computers' USB power. Some USB power is lost in the switch, so the underpowered keyboard does not always function correctly - with strange behavior when attempting to use the hot keys; this is especially true after attaching a second wired mouse to the keyboard, rather than just using the supplied mouse port on the KVM. A powered USB hub on the KVM's keyboard USB connector can mitigate this.

I now run four computers off of my 60" LED smart TV via wireless keyboard and mouse, and I can toggle between them quickly. All cables are included, I just plugged everything in and it worked great.

Comments about IOGEAR MiniView 4-Port USB KVM Switch with Built-in Cables and Audio Support:

This KVM is small and works well. It is thoughtfully designed with the number 1 and number 4 computer cable attached to the KVM and the #2 and #3 KVM separate. You plug 2 and/or 3 in if you need them and just store the cable if you don't. This reduces clutter as you don't have extra KVM cables dangling from the unit if your not using them!

I gave this KVM a 4 star rating only because I have a problem using it with my Mac Mini computer. It does not play well with this Mac model which has built in video card. The resolution detected by the Mac is the highest that can be had with the KVM which is 2048X1536 but with my Samsung 24" LED monitor I got a reduced screen image, I see about a 1" band of black all the way around the monitor. The same monitor works perfect when I switch to a PC, that is, I see the whole screen with no black bands. My Samsung monitor does NOT have setup adjustments to change vertical/horizontal size either so I can't correct this using monitor adjustments either. I have corresponded with IO Gear tech support and they weren't helpful. So I live with the problem for now. Actually, I have setup my KVM such that my Mac is only switching audio, keyboard and mouse and NOT video. My video is plugged directly into an HDMI second input on my Samsung monitor, so when I want to switch to my Mac, I have to use the keyboard hot key sequence to switch I/O on the KVM, then reach over to the Samsung and press a button to switch monitor inputs from VGA (IO Gear KVM) to HDMI which hooks directly to the Mac.

In short, this KVM *MAY* not play well with modern Mac computers, it certainly doesn't with my setup!

          How you use the product:
I use it for my multiple desktops I want to network and simplify the uses for them, which this product is fantastic for! I use it to network my printer and fix clients computers which makes this a great tool for that.
Things that are great about it:
4 connections is perfect for connecting 4 computers.
I was able to use on of the cables to hook up my one monitor to the KVM, not needing to unhook any monitor VGA cables I was using from my other monitors. Really easy setup. The product is solid. Not cheaply made. It works magnificently! Good price and company.
Things that aren't so great about it:
I cannot think of any CONs for this product.

Comments about IOGEAR MiniView 4-Port USB KVM Switch with Built-in Cables and Audio Support:

I already reviewed this product before receiving an offer to do it again after a week. This unit is now worse; mice or other pointing devices lack power - behaviour is a little awry - like only one scroll wheel working on the PC mouse, while the Mighty Mouse scroll ball does not work - even though by itself the Mighty Mouse works! Boosting power with a hub only works for the mouse port, not the keyboard. The keyboard special key sequences to switch video and mouse while leaving audio on another machine's output does not work. Response to key switching commands is already getting worse; often I have to try several times to get it to switch at all. The unit has locked up, requiring a reset. You guessed it - you have to unplug the USB from the ALL the computers - what a pain. This early flakyness and lack of functionality for independent swithching of sound leads me to expect this thing will not work for long. I changed my mind - I would not recommend and regret the purchase.

Comments about IOGEAR MiniView 4-Port USB KVM Switch with Built-in Cables and Audio Support:

Highly recommended & this one replaces an IO Gear 2 port KVM switch in place for years without problems.
Using with 3 boxes (7 Pro, XP Pro & Ubuntu/Mint Linux) and no problems switching between all 3. I keep the 4th port open for testing/working with strays that need repairs & like the flexibility.
It skips that open port when not hooked up which is really convenient.
One added bonus discovered by accident was that when I need only one box the switch automatically senses that machine when booted & switches to it so I don't have to cycle thru all 4 ports like previous problems with other brand KVM's.

Fast switching is great. Love the ability to change just video/mouse/keyboard, while leaving audio at current input. Great price!

Doesn't work with Logitech's K350 keyboard for switching between inputs, so I had to buy a separate USB keyboard.

I ordered this as a replacement for an older KVM that did not support USB, but instead had the DIN connectors. This new switch works perfectly with the ThinkPad keyboard with build in TrackPoint (a small joystick type mouse in the keyboard so you can keep your hands on home row while typing and still use the mouse). I've got two laptops and two desktops connected. I particularly liked the ability to switch the keyboard and monitor while chosing to keep the audio with another computer so I can set up iTunes or the Sony Location Free TV player on an extended monitor then switch to a laptop to do my work.

This is currently the BEST KVM on the Market for two reasons (Size & Flexible Cables) I have used other major brand KVM whose cable are Bulky & Stiff hence they don't stay in the place/position you want it to be. I would have given it 5 stars if it had one extra USB port to share ( like a web Cam). Other than this, this a very Fine KVM.

I use the KVM with a Lenvo Enhanced USB keyboard and Lenovo Scroopoint mouse for 3 laptops in docks and one desktop.

This model works great with the Multi Media keyboard keys as well as full Scrollpoint mouse functionality (including driver sensing the mouse).

The only issue I've seen to date is that occasionally Windows XP has an error detecting the mouse on docking of the laptop. Easily corrected by simply switching the KVM to another machine and right back again.

flawless except if a laptops usb port powers down. simply get a hub to supply constant power, or turn off power saving features on laptops. The Real Deal. Didn't know one existed. Bought 2 KVM's to switch between 8 pcs. 1-2 seconds between switching, sometimes it's only 1/2 a second. It's totally hardware independant how fast's the switch. Saves me money and time. Works well regardless how many pc's are attached. No problems drawing enough power from USB. No hanging up hitting esc key doesnt fix.

                                  This MiniView is great. It works on my old 2000 Compaq with Win-Me and Xp. It also is working with my 2009 ACER with VISTA and my new 2010 Compaq with Widows 7-64. {Note: all three Computers are AMD}

The best thing I like about The MiniView is at the end of the day when I shut down my Vista and the next day when I start up my Windows 7-64 it will automatically switch the monitor with out any help from me.

The only bad things I had to say about "The MiniView" is that my speakers did not work because I had no power supply, so I used a USB power supply and it works great. And I wish that they would had a couple extra USB ports for my Ext. Hard Drives.

Using this with a (MacBook Pro, PC Desktop (dual boot W7 & OSX), Mac Desktop, and a Q-See DVR).
Hot Key switching between setups works as advertised. My Kensington Trackball Pro and the Keyboard will not control the Q-See Dvr once switched over, but that doesn't have anything to do with the KVM switch (at least I can still view the cameras.
Mac users be sure to read the directions to switch the hot key for the Mac keyboard "Ctrl" key, then follow the normal directions for monitor switching. I also added some 6ft VGA and USB extension cables to keep my computers outside my studio.

MiniView switch works great and is very reliable. This product replaced a ps2 based KVM switch, which didn't work as well on newer PCs with USB connections only.

The sound feature of the MiniView wasn't useful to me, as you can get sound from only one connected PC at a time.
