The Fieldscope III ED 20-60x60 Spotting Scope Kit is Nikon's sensible choice for observers who want to carry their scope for extended distances, but still demand the finest optical performance money can buy. Extra-low dispersion glass provides optimum focus of the color spectrum to a single point, and when observing contrasty, intricate & glare-filled subject matter you'll easily see the difference. This high-quality scope is easy to handle and is fully water and fogproof.
Besides for making it easier to initially locate the subject, its straight viewing design also results in it being a bit shorter and lighter, and less expensive to manufacture. In addition, the Nikon Fieldscope III ED arrives to you with the Vue-Thru case. The included Nikon MC Series Zoom Eyepiece offers a long zoom range of 20-60x, which is the longest in the Nikon range of eyepieces.

This is a great scope at the mid price range. It is very small and light weight (for a scope) and the optics are quite good, in fact they are much better than one would expect for this size and price! As the name suggests, it is a great scope for the field and relatively easy to carry with you while bird watching, etc. The image is very good at 25x, somewhat less so at full magnification, but that is to be expected. The included case is a nice addition for the field. One might consider the angled scope instead, especially if you plan on using it with someone of a different height (or for astronomy crossover, etc).
