I purchased the Omni 127 which features the venerable and highly regarded Celestron 5" f/10 optical tube assembly on the CG-4 Equatorial mount.

The 5-inch optics can only be described as extraordinary, some of the finest I have used in a half century of observing. But ironically, the superb optics are hampered by a mount that is nowhere up to the quality of the optics. That's why I gave it only 3 stars overall. I'd give 5 for the optical quality by itself, but only two for the mount. I would highly recommend the tube assembly to a friend.

I reluctantly returned the entire instrument and am looking for the same 5" OTA on a better mount.

I'm Very New To Astronomy,But This Scope Has Delivered As Promised,Got To See Jupiter And It's Four Largest Moon's,The Lunar Landscape Just Jumps Out At You,I Only Have 2 Eyepices So My Range Is Very Limited,I Look Foward To Purchasing A Televue Barlow Lens To Enhance My Viewing,I'm Sure With A Barlow This Scope Will Provide Some Awesome Images,I Don't Have Anything To Compare This Scope To,So I Have To Go With What I've Seen,As A Novice,This Is A Great Fit For Me,I Would Recommend This Scope To Anyone.....And Kudos To B&H For The First Rate Service.....I Look Foward To Many Great Night's Of Stargazing With My New Instrument,BTW Celestron Rocks.....

Comments about Celestron Omni XLT 127 5"/127mm Catadioptric Telescope Kit:

This Is My First Telescope Since I Was A Kid,So I Don't Have Much To Go On,But What I Have Seen Is Jupiter Using A Televue 15mm Eyepiece,I Saw Two Small Bands And It's 4 Largest Moons,The Moon Was The Most Impressive Object I've Observed,A Lot Of Detail And Extremely Crisp,The Lunar Landscape Was Amazing,A Couple Of Star Systems Looked Very Sharp Like Pleiades,I'm Also Very Limited On Eyepieces As I Only Own Two,The 25mm It Came With And A 15mm Televue I Purchased Through B&H,I Look Foward To Getting A Televue Barlow Lens,I'm Sure With That Eyepiece I Will Be Able To Get A Lot More Planetary Detail And Way More DSOs,I Would Recommend This Scope To Anyone Looking To Start Out With,And The German Equatorial Mount Is Sturdy Which Makes For Great Viewing,I Know I Haven't Scratched The Surface Yet With This Scope. You're Getting A Lot Of Scope For An Awesome Price And Shame On B&H For Dropping The Price 100 Dollars A Week After I Bought It.....Still An Awesome Deal Either Way,I Still Love B&H.....

Comments about Celestron Omni XLT 127 5"/127mm Catadioptric Telescope Kit:

I Bought this telescope as an upgrade from a beginner 3" Reflector with a wobbly Alt-Az mount. First off, the mount for this telescope is a beast (in a great way)! Heavy duty and stable, which comes at the cost of weighing a lot, but the best optics are rendered useless with a bad mount so it's well worth it. The slow motion knobs work well, but it's difficult to tighten the cables onto the keys. The OTA is quite nice and a great value for the price as there is a large jump to go much larger than 5". Overall an amazing value to enter into the intermediate realm of astronomy with the potential to add nice eyepieces, filters and motorized drive. Also need to get a nice hard-sided case for transport to make this a truly mobile telescope.

    Fantastic grab and go scope

    By Matt lat

Comments about Celestron Omni XLT 127 5"/127mm Catadioptric Telescope Kit:

Wonderful G4 mount for any scope and this is a great grab and go scope. Compliments my 10 inch dob for portability perfectly. Not a professional level photography scope but have already seen the great Orion Nebula and jupitor first night out in Boston. With better seeing conditions I can only expect this scope will be better than I expected.

Comments about Celestron Omni XLT 127 5"/127mm Catadioptric Telescope Kit:

Half of the price covers the HD CG-4 German Equatorial Mount & 1.75" Steel Leg Adjustable Tripod. There are few solid tripods of this quality at this price. A motor can be added later for under $. The optical tube is about average for a 127cc. The poorest part is the view finder, with a poor mount that means repeated alignments are necessary. It is worth every penny if you are a fan of Celestron. You can buy the tripod separate and go with another optical tube of better quality for the same price. But either way you end up with a great value. Not everyone uses the go-to features that keep driving the prices up. So if you don't mind manually screwing across the sky, this is a great buy. All in white, it even looks pretty enough to make your wife stop complaining about all the money you spend on sky watching.

Comments about Celestron Omni XLT 127 5"/127mm Catadioptric Telescope Kit:

I purchased this as a gift for my girlfriend. We're both big fans of science and space, and I wanted to go beyond a beginner level scope. It's worth every penny.

The tripod mount on this is very very stable and sturdy, handling the scope with ease. The fluid motion is smooth and easily assembled. Took it out the first night and pointed it at Jupiter, which easily revealed it's clouds and 4 moons as well as the Orion Nebula. We look forward to many many dark nights with our new instrument.

While a little more technical, the EQ mount is worth the time it takes to learn how to use and makes this something we can enjoy now and grow with as our skills increase. I purchased this because it's also had good reviews as useful for astrophotography. So far I have no complaints whatsoever. This telescope is good to use right out of the box. Would recommend this scope to friends.

The telescope is smaller and portable- however the tripod, while sturdy, is a little on the heavy side. I'll save that from being listed as a con because while it makes it a little difficult on the portability- it makes for very very stable viewing.
