Comments about CAD E70 Modular Condenser Microphone:

Bought this microphone to use on my boom for indoor location sound, based off of the review it got, price, two capsules and what not. For my purposes, it's worked perfectly. Very clear audio that's fairly flat; it's great for indoor dialogue. It's pretty hefty, but it feels really solid rather than unnecessarily hefty. I haven't used it to mic any instruments yet, but if you need a great (and cheap) small diaphragm condenser for indoor boom work, this mic is great. The included shock mount is a bit chintzy but it works, and it's always nice to have extras. All in all, I highly recommend it.

Comments about CAD E70 Modular Condenser Microphone:

The e70 seems to me to be standout in affordably priced small condenser mics. Their omni capsule is superior to anything in that range as an option, delivering a more full sound compared to others in and above its price range.

It is a fairly bright but well defined Small Diaphragm Condenser Mic.

I have used it as a neck mic on an acoustic guitar (couple with a large diaphragm condenser), on the piano, as on overhead drum mic as well as close mic'ing the hi-hats.

For the Price you get two capsules, and several options for pads and low end cut off.

Besides being a little aggressive at times, there are many applications for this mic. I may be buying a second in the near future. Go for a stereo pair.

Comments about CAD E70 Modular Condenser Microphone:

This is the best value in low cost small diaphragm condenser microphones that I have found. Offering both Omni and Cardioid capsules, other microphones usually cost more than double the price for similar features. There is no "switch" to click to change the mic pattern; one simply has to unscrew the capsule and change it that way. I use it for recording acoustic guitar and find the sound to be perfect and I am very happy with my purchase. I'm so glad I got this mic as it is now discontinued....so get em' while they're still to be found. As a side note, this microphone is almost identical to the Superlux 241.

Using this mic for recording acoustic guitar while recording voice with an SM57. Very little vocal bleed through on the e70 with the cardioid capsule. The e70 does a nice job of representing the guitar. For $ getting a sound this clean and true is a steal.

Comments about CAD E70 Modular Condenser Microphone:

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this microphone. It captures a lot of detail without sounding too tinny or bright. For the price, I had been expecting the audio to be a little muddy and flat, but this is not the case. I have been able to use it in a couple of very different recording settings: as a mic for an acoustic guitar in my home studio, and also as an off-camera mic for recording a documentary-style video (an interview setting).

The microphone was outstanding in both environments. In the home studio, I was immediately impressed with the clarity I could hear from my guitar. My initial placement was level with the neck of the guitar and six inches away, aiming directly at the twelfth fret. This placement works great for strumming. Another placement is to have the microphone on a boom pole about eight inches above and six inches away from the guitar, angled down towards the twelfth fret. This placement seemed to work best for finger-style guitar, as it captured a nice warm tone without being too bass-heavy (when I tried finger-style guitar in the first placement, it captured way too much of the wood sound whenever my thumb would release a string).

While it was not designed for this, I was also able to use the microphone to capture audio from an interview for a video I was making. It was a windy day, and the building was rattling and echoing like crazy. I didn't use any special filters, but the microphone did an excellent job of eliminating the noise while capturing some crisp dialogue. It's range is not as good as a shotgun (i.e., super-cardioid) mic, so it had to be pretty close to the speaker. I was only able to get it close enough because the camera was zoomed in to a close-up. If the angle were any wider, I don't think I would have been able to get the microphone close enough to capture the necessary detail.

Overall, a fantastic microphone for the price. It works great in the home studio, and it can double as an off-camera mic for video if you really need it.

Comments about CAD E70 Modular Condenser Microphone:

I bought a pair of these mics about a week ago. So far I have mainly used them on acoustic guitar (steel and nylon string). I'm getting excellent results, and feel quite sure these mics will record a great many other sources with similar results. Out of curiosity I DID also put one up with the wind screen on an a pop filter to see how a vocal would sound. Well, it sounded quite good.

I'm a professional musician and recording engineer, and I'm MOST pleasantly surprised at finding these mics. They are open yet rich, and have a nice sheen without being edgy. On top of that, they even come with an omni capsule in addition to the cardiod capule.

l own many nice mics, costing many times more than these mics. However, I will be ordering another pair of CAD E70s very soon.

These are the world's best inexpensive pencil condensers.
You can spend hundreds more and not get anything that sounds any better.
They are warm, very accurate and not tinny or bright - unlike most budget chinese condensers.
I've used them to record acoustic guitars, banjo, mandolin, cello, viola, violin, sitar, tabla, hormonium, tenor, baritone and alto saxophones, clarinet, and drums. I've used them as room mics, spot mics, boom pole mics for film and video, as a XY stereo pair to record string quartets, jazz ensembles, orchestras, classical duos, trios and soloists.
These things are THE best piano mics I have ever used. Bar none, hands down. I've recorded Steinway Model Bs and Ds, Mason & Hamlin Model As, Bs and BBs, a Baldwin SD-10 and Yamaha C-5 with them. All sounded great.
Two of these and a Zoom H4n and you've got a portable recording studio. They are part of my standard field kit for location music recording and production.
