The Canon MC-05 Maintenance Cartridge is a necessary component of the imagePROGRAF iPF500, iPF510, iPF5000, and iPF5100 professional large format printers. It serves as the receptacle for waste ink during cleaning and normal startup subroutines, and is required for operation. Periodic exchange of the MC-05 assures the highest quality printing results with your imagePROGRAF printer. Your printer's software will indicate the status of your MC-05, and for best results it should be exchanged at ~80% capacity.
- Used exclusively with the imagePROGRAF iPF500, iPF510, iPF5000, and iPF5100 large format printers

The MC-05 Canon Maintenance Cartridge for my ipf5000 was full and I needed a replacement fast! With a full cartridge, the printer wont and will not operate and I had jobs to print. [...] I was up and running again in no time and on a lesser budget to boot. They beat out ALL competitor's pricing.

Plugged it in works great. The tank barely has any ink in it when it registers full. Could do 2 or 3 times the cycles and still be safe. Would be nice if you could reset the chip instead of wasting a barely full cartridge.

Performance for a part such as this is hard to guage. All one can say is that it comes well packaged, is easy to install according to the included directions and does permit the continued use of the Canon printer into which it has been installed. The main question - how long does or should this part last - cannot be easily figured, but it seems to be about average for such an overflow ink collector device in a large form factor printer. However, on my IPF 5100, judging from the old MC-05 that is being replaced, Canon seems to be very, very conservative about setting an early replacement point for the part, as the old one doesn't seem anywhere near fully saturated with expended inks.

I was relieved to find the maintenance cartridge here because it was a surprise that I needed a new one since I had barely made it through the starter inks that came with the printer. It seems odd to me that I would need to replace it but I did have to use the move function on the printer and it involved stairs so it was worth the wasted ink for the peace of mind. The cartridge is well built, doesn't leak and is pretty easy to replace.
