The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens from Canon is a high performance, water-resistant, ultra wide-angle L-series zoom lens. An f/2.8 maximum aperture is effective in low light situations and offers shallow depth of field focus control. The optical design has been improved to offer better edge-to-edge image quality. In addition, it features 3 high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo. Its ultrasonic motor (USM) and improved AF algorithms will help the lens to focus faster and quieter. Precise manual focus is supported even in One Shot AF mode and a truly round aperture results in pleasing background blur.

All of the "L" lenses deliver optical performance equal to similar fixed focal lengths lenses and provide tight seal structures for dust and water resistance. Distortions and aberrations are remarkably small for a lens of such amazing capabilities. An included petal-style lens hood keeps unwanted light from entering the lens and causing flare and it offers a degree of protection against impact and the elements.

Ultra-low dispersion glass and three high-precision aspherical lens elements, each of a different type: ground, replica and GMo minimize aberrations and improve overall image quality.
A ring-type Ultrasonic motor (USM) provides quiet, fast, precision auto focusing and predictive tracking.
Full-time manual focus override (even in AF mode) is supported.
Circular aperture diaphragm produces brilliant out-of-focus characteristics.
A petal-type lens hood is included.

Had bought Canon's 10-22mm lens months ago when all I had was a 7D and loved it. So when I bought the 5D MkII it only made sense to get this one. I now own several L lenses and now wish they had have made the 10-22mm an f/2.8 and an L as well. Of all of them, this is the one that truly is most practical. The FOV makes for very interesting UWA pictures and yet when zoomed in to 35 can yield classic frames literally free from any significant distortion. From Landscapes, to portraits, to even street photography this lens comes through. If you are on a budget and had but one lens to buy then this would be the lens I would recommend.

Lens will only achieve consistent focus mounted on a tripod. Handheld, it is completely unreliable at any focal length/ F-stop/ Shutter 1/250 +. I've taken it to Canon, documenting the problem and noting that it clunks when gently shaken, as though an internal element is loose. They returned it claiming it's within specs. It's going back a second time on Monday for the same issues. I've used it on 3 different 7D bodies over the last month and a half with the same results on all 3. With all of the positive reviews, I can only figure that I'm stuck with a bad copy. (Purchased when a rebate was offered, tested it on a tripod when I recieved it then put it away until after racing season started.)I'm only writing this to remind people to test thoroughly and return promptly if there is an issue, no matter how many flawless experiences you've had with prior purchases. Hopefully Canon will be a little more thorough on this next service call.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens:

I bought this lens in early 2010, after using it on a commercial shoot. I've always had a soft-spot for the images wide, even ultra-wide lenses can produce. Couple that with a wide maximum aperture and interesting focal range and you have something very special indeed.

It has taken a long time for rival brands or Canon itself to catch up with what this lens offers. The only serious rival 5 years later is Canon's own insane 11-24mm f4 L series lens, which is a pure miracle, BUT is almost double the price. Unless you're a master at crazy wide angles (and let's face it, few people are) or specialize in real estate photography, the 16-35 will more than satisfy you. Your wallet takes a hit, but the resulting images tend to speak for themselves.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens:

I haven't had a chance to use this lens much, but when I have, it has performed as well as I expected. Focus is sharp, colors are great, and the images it produces when matched with a 5D MkIII are great. With it, and the other lenses I picked up from B&H, I can cover a range from 16-200mm at f/2.8. I can't recommend B&H enough to anyone who is looking for new or used gear. Their service, selection, and prices are the best around.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens:

I have had this lens for about 2 years. I love what this thing can do for my landscape shots. Just crazy. At 35mm, it does people very well. At 16mm, it can take something somewhat ordinary, and make it look extraordinary! I just can't recommend it enough. Of my top 20 shots, this lens is responsible for about 16 of them and is one of my cheapest lenses. Just get it!

I use this lens on a full frame camera and really like the wide angle images.
Image quality is superb. I have been using this for shooting stars and star trails and have been really happy. A prime lens with a larger aperture might be more beneficial for astro photography, but using this for landscapes and other purposed I have been completely satisfied.

Wide open results are very sharp in the center and improves slightly when stopped downThe Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM Lens is one of two the lenses I use for a walk-around lens when shooting architecture and landscapes. The size works, it fits into my backpack comfortably.

Everything that you expect from great Canon glass! I use it on a RED Scarlet for video, and it's a perfect addition to my other Canon lenses.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens:

I am an amateur photographer and wanted to add to my existing EOS 7D/ kit 28-135 lens. I already have the canon 70-300L 3.5-5.6 lens and wanted a shorter lens for portraits and landscapes. I am happy with the build quality. A bit pricy but I wanted the flexibility of a 2.8f lens over IS.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens:

I purchased this lens because I want to explore a different way of taking pictures, and get into landscape photography.Because of the weather, I have only been able to use it once or twice..but so far I really like it. it is very sharp, the colors are great. The quality of my pictures improved after I watched the tutorial on line, and I would recommend that people who are new to wide angle lenses do just that. it is basically a new way of seeing things. I am planning to purchase a circular polarizer for it, as soon as I can.I also want to use it in different venues I have not had a chance to explore.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens:

Bought this to use with my C100. I don't use it as much in my still work unless I need a really wide, which is rare. I've owned a few versions of this lens over the years and this one seems to be the best so far. The lens always suffered from soft edges and this lens still has that problem but not as bad as previous versions. I wish a version of this lens came with IS. For me the fast aperture is critical and Canon seems to only wants to produce IS zoom lenses at f/4 which is really not enough IMO.
This is a solid all around wide lens, pricey but solid.

I use my Canon 6D mostly for videography. But there are the occasional photo gigs to. This lens really comes in handy when I need a wider shot. It is also nice in low light situations with a low F-stop. I have only had the chance to use it a few times so far, but feel like it will be as reliable as any other Canon L series lens.
