Induro ELA-3 Short Center Column for Alloy Series-3 Tripods - 4.7"

You Pay: $31.00

The Induro ELA-3 Short Center Column replaces the standard column on the Alloy series-3 tripods. This allows the user to take full advantage of the variable leg spread on these units, so that you are not inhibited by the length of the column as to how low you can go.

Comments about Induro ELA-3 Short Center Column:

I have an Enduro tripod. It came with the long center column. No tripod of any brand should come with a long center column. I know of no serious photographer who ever raises the height of the camera by raising the center column. This defeats the purpose of using a tripod in the first place which is a solid, steady, unmoving camera so photos will be sharp, in focus, etc. At the other end, having a long center column gets in the way if you want to lower the tripod by spreading the legs out so you can get close to the ground. So I purchased this Induro short center column and it works as it should.

        Doesn't fit the Induro CT213

Comments about Induro ELA-3 Short Center Column:

The product is well made and well machined. I was hoping that it would fit the CT213 but it doesn't. The shaft is too wide to slide in.The diameter of the shaft is 1.25 inches. The diameter of the head plate is 2.5 inches. The column weighs exactly 7 oz.Another thing I noticed was that the head plate is a little larger than the head plate on my stock column for the CT213. There is a lip when I put my Acratech ball head on there. I can still access the knobs (the pano knob is a little harder to grab with gloves) and it doesn't interfere with the ball head when flipped over. The head plate doesn't have a rubber texture on it either like the stock. Just 4 concentric rings with 3 set screws from below to probably tighten it to your ball head.

Comments about Induro ELA-3 Short Center Column:

It's short - what else does it need to be? Unlike another reviewer, the weight hook from the long column works/fits fine on mine.

It is aluminum, not carbon fiber, but I don't see that as an issue. Since it's short the weight difference must be minimal.

Why this isn't standard and the long column an option I don't know, hence only 4 stars.

Comments about Induro ELA-3 Short Center Column:

allows for low angle shooting with the stability of a tripod, as opposed to trying to handhold a long lens while lying on the ground.
for those who are considering this option, the aluminum version fits on the carbon fiber tripod (CT314), so you don't need to spend extra for the carbon fiber version, unless you really see and advantage in miniscule weight savings!!

Comments about Induro ELA-3 Short Center Column:

This shorter column offers a lot over the stock column. It allows you to hold the tripod, fully collapsed, by the grips, and it allows the tripod to be as low as it can get with the legs spread. Seeing as how this tripod is already about 6 ft high, I don't see the point of the stock column. Take it away and give us a more stable tripod. The only thing I don't like about this column, besides the fact I had to buy it separately, is how it still allows you to raise and lower the head by about an inch. Kind of odd. (The hook from the stock column fits perfectly on this, despite this being of bogen design).

Comments about Induro ELA-3 Short Center Column:

It works - allows lowering of tripod to about 5 or 6 inches off ground.

It does not receive the bolt with retractable hanger that is present on the original column - the bolt just can't thread correctly in this short column - maybe only mine was defective in this regard.
