The Wimberley AK-100 Sidekick Adapter makes it possible for the Sidekick to be attached to a Really Right Stuff (RRS) head with the lever-style quick release mechanism. The adapter is necessary for these heads since the lever-style system is of a slightly different size than the standard Arca Swiss-type fitting used for the Sidekick mount. Traditional twist-knob clamps will work with the AK-100 as well.
The plate also features a stop-screw, which assures that the Sidekick will not slip out of the quick release clamp by mistake.

While not cheap it does what it suppose to, it hold my sidekick and heavy lens firmly in my ballhead.

I was annoyed to find I needed this adapter for my RRS BH-55 Full-Size Ballhead. Although you can use the Sidekick on the BH-55 without it, it makes a much better mount and allows everything to rotate smoothly the way it is supposed to do.

Works great. Superior quality as all Wimberley items are. A little pricey but it will last a lifetime. Don't risk a fall with an expensive lens. Buy it and relax.

Comments about Wimberley AK-100 Sidekick Adapter:
It really holds so good. It's long enough that it's easy to slide back and forth to balance the camera and lens so that it's perfectly balanced!! I was concerned the way the foot for the lens is sideways and it scares you at first afraid it's going to fall but I can tell you......it's solid and holds right where you put it.
Thanks Wimberley!!!!!

Gives me peace of mind that my 500/4 won't fall from my Sidekick. I use a RRS BH-55 with a quick release clamp and the adapter gives it space to clear the clamp.

Comments about Wimberley AK-100 Sidekick Adapter:
I bought this to go with the Wimberly sidekick since it is needed to make my Really Right Stuff ball head lock down properly on the sidekick. It has worked as promised and the sidekick has been great.

Comments about Wimberley AK-100 Sidekick Adapter:
While I had not seen any clamping issues with the sidekick on my RRS BH-55 I do not want to take a chance with my NIKKOR 200-400mm lens coming loose. The AK-100 was easy to install but you need to make sure you have a later edition Sidekick to make sure it is drilled and tapped for the adapter. There is no noticeable bulk or weight added to the Sidekick with the adapter installed. If you have the lever lock clamp heads from RRS or Arca Swiss this is a valuable accessory. If your heads have screw clamps the adapter is not needed. It would be nice if the Wimberley Sidekick was manufactured with this already included but being able to add it is a plus.

Comments about Wimberley AK-100 Sidekick Adapter:
Provides a better fit with Really Right Stuff Lever clamp systems. There is no slippage when clamped fully. Only problem is the mount holes in older Sidekicks do not match in size for this plate. Older Sidekicks have 2 different size mount holes. Check yours befor ordering!

Used with a 200-400mm f4 VR Nikon lense with RRS replacement foot. Centers the lense over the tripod for perfect balance. Great quality and great service from B&H.

Definitely improves the security of the connection between my Wimberley Sidekick and my RSS lever style clamp. Well made but rather expensive. Unfortunately there isn't any competition.
