    When I bought this backpack I was looking for something I could use to transport most of my gear from 'home base' to the location I would be shooting. Not to use on location, but just to get my gear there. This pack carries everything I have so far. It is well padded and weatherproof. So what does it fit for me?...A D300 w/grip; 18-200 f3.5/5.6; 14-24 f2.8; 70-200 f2.8; 80-400 f4.5/5.6; SB-800 flash; Point & shoot; chargers;
polarizing filters; spare batteries; Laptop; spare cards, etc. And there is still room for that second body and 24-70 f2.8 when I get them.
So is it heavy fully loaded with all that?...OF COURSE! But as I stated I didn't buy it for something to walk around with all day on location. (I use my Slingshot 300-AW for that) I bought it to transport my gear from one location to the next, which it does a great job of. I should mention that even fully loaded, with the straps properly adjusted it is still relatively comfortable. I have been able to carry it like that for 1-2 hours without a problem. Haven't had the occasion to be wearing it continuously for more than that. Plenty of pockets as well as the ability to carry a tripod. Well padded and well made ...as I've come to expect from Lowepro.
I didn't mark heavy as a con for this because, for what it is built to carry, Heavy just comes with the territory.

I bought this bag over the Tamrac ones because of the depth, the comprable tamracs are 6.25" deep while this claims 6.5" deep. After receiving the bag and measuring it, only at the top of the main compartment is it 6.5" deep. At the bottom of the bag its is as shallow as 5" :( pretty disappointed about it, since had the bag been 6.5" deep the whole way I could fit more of gear in there. Also the water resistant zippers are peeling already (the rubber).

Other than that its a good bag, I wish they would have just gotten over the skinny long front pockets and just put one nice big one with an organizer on it.

Wish the hip pads were optional.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

    Hi.

I wanted the biggest bag I could carry whilst still ensuring I could take it in the aircraft cabin with me.

With the increasing scrutiny of your cabin baggage by airlines, it has become more important to understand the limits of your hand luggage, especially when you consider that your precious camera equipment may be thrown into the hold along with other over-sized baggage!

I now own this Lowepro Vertex 300AW, but even after purchasing this backpack, I was still nervous of taking this aboard the low cost airlines.

I travelled last week with EasyJet.

A couple of facts about EasyJet:

    1. They currently have no restriction on hand luggage weight.

    2. If you have a bag sized 50x40x20cm or less, EasyJet will guarantee that your bag accompanies you into the cabin.

    3. If your bag is 56x45x25cm but greater than 50x40x20cm, you may be asked to put it in the hold, but will not be charged for hold luggage.

    Facts about the Vertex 300AW:

    1. Lowepro's site states that the 300AW dimensions are 55x33x26 cm
However, beware that this appears to be measurements without taking into consideration of the shoulder and waist straps!

2, The 300AW has a useful zippable strap cover.

How to get your bag into the 56x45x25cm EasyJet luggage cage at check-in:

    1. What is soon apparent is that it's the width of the bag that may/will cause a problem in meeting EasyJet's dimension challenge.

    2. The 300AW conveniently has a laptop compartment at the front of the bag. Tip: Take your laptop out and carry it onto the plane separately.

    3. The 300AW as two front pockets for accessories/filters etc. Tip: Remove everything from these front pockets & store in your pockets/hold luggage.

    4. The straps will be an issues. Tip: Flatten the straps and the hip belt and use the zippable strap cover to gather in the straps.

The width should now be 25cm. Even if it isn't you'll find that the bag is flexible enough to squeeze in and out of the EasyJet cage.

    When boarding at the gate:

    1. Keep the straps 'hidden' within the strap cover.

    2. Carry the rucksack by the handle. This will blend in nicely with other passengers who have similar sized baggage on wheels etc.

    3. Don't be too laid-back on getting on the plane. If you're at the back of the queue, you may find that no overhead locker space is available and your precious camera equipment will have to go into the hold!

(Note: RyanAir restricts their baggage to 55x40x20 cms & 10Kg - so bottom line is, don't even bother trying to take this bag on board RyanAir!)
Well, that's my experience and advise. Hope it helps!

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

Just went to Costa Rica with this. loaded it up with 23lbs of camera gear, a spotting scope and tripod. It was comfortable to carry. Good compartment configuration. The best feature was the adjustability of the attachment points, they slide up and down. Only negative (very Minor) was that I had to remove eyepiece from 20-60 scope to fit into the case with the rest of gear.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

This bag will work out ok for what I need it for, I brought it to store my cameras and lenses so that when Im out shooting I can grab just what I need to place in a smaller bag to move around without all the extra weight.

The one problem is that it isn't deep enought. With my L-Bracket , the camera extents a full inch past the depth of the bag. Which means I have to be careful how I store equipment in other areas.

Since I won't be using the bag to hike it's not a real problem but check to make sure that you find a bag that is 7 inches deep for safe and comfortable storage of your camera.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

I am a serious amateur shooter that shoots landscapes, wildlife and macro. I carry all my gear except for a Sigma 120-300 2.8 in this bag. 2 bodies w/lenses, 1 gripped, 3 extra lenses, 2 teleconverters, ext tubes, flash and cables, with room left over.

I used a large Tenba backpack for about 8 years, which I outgrew. I found the Lowepro 300 to have more room, and more comfortable shoulder straps,(a must if your going to actually carry it on your back for extended periods). The ability to strap a tripod to the outside is nice as well. The included rain cover is a nice feature for unexpected rain.

One review I read about the pack before buying it mentioned a difference in the depth at different points, and I'll have to admit this is the only drawback I can see so far. The top is around 6.5" deep as advertised, but the bottom seems closer to 5.5" or so deep. I believe this would make it difficult to fit a gripped or full size 1 series body at the bottom of the pack. This is the reason I gave the pack 4 stars instead of 5.

The one thing to remember is the bigger the bag, the heavier it is when it's full. This was a (planned) gift from my wife, and so far, it is working out well and I'm happy about the product. Quick service as always with B&H.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

Want to take everything you own !?

        That's the one.

        I have in it :

        5D + Grip
        24-104
        70-200 2.8 II
        50 mm
        Another cam body
        Flash
GoPro with every grip and strap gopro makes
Cleaning tools + mid size rocket cleaner
        Fliters
        MacPro
        Hoods for all lenses
        remotes
        Black rapid strap
        Diff box
        etc
And still it looks like you can fit so much more ... my 16-35 2.8 should be arriving soon

        - BUT - Yes it's heavy - bulky and looks like a a suitcase with straps ... if you about the looks ... it's not the one for you ... if you about the practical it doesn't get better than this. Easy and quick access to everything.

Amazing (like any Lowepro) back/straps systems you don't feel the wight once it's on you. will be nice to have more side straps to get it in and out of a car.

Airline - No problem inside the US (I wouldn't try EU or Asia with this one, was in India last month and had to gate check a much smaller one) as a carry on.
        * will not fit (no matter what they say) in an RJ planes ... you will gate check it unless the flight crew is really nice to you ... i wouldn't bet on it.

So - Looking for a carry it all storage bag - That's the one ... but if you have quick trips via local planes and lots of walking around ... Maybe the flipside 400/500 is a better option. I use my flipside 400 aw for that ...

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

It is my belief that I am particularly qualified to rate this product, I have worn out five of these bags.
All of you lightweights who use such a product, only use it every once and a while. Since 2007 I have worn one on my back full of equipment every day, If I put my pants on in the morning some time latter I hoist the back pack up and strap it on and leave my apartment for the day, I average fifteen kilometers a day with one of these Vertex 300 AV Backpacks on my back.
Any where between 20 and 30 kilograms total weight bag plus equipment.
These back packs are very durable, but they could be made more durable, I would like to see replaceable shoulder and waist straps, so I could have a smaller carbon foot print, for when the straps are worn out I have to replace the entire bag.

Everything about this pack is extremely well thought out and bst of all- it's waist belt makes it super comfortable. It can carry all my medium format equipment plus some 35mm stuff together with a 17" macbook. Only caveat is that I wish its top pockets were a horizontal rather than vertical but it's a tiny caveat for an amazing product.

It's also incredibly solid-- every handle is reinforced and it hold tripods and light stands well, even on the go.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

I purchased this backpack as a replacement for our Lowepro Compu-daypack. Extremely well made, lots of compartments for all camera gear including enough room for 2 full size DSLRs. I would have liked more room for in the laptop area, it's rated for a 17'' laptop but in reality it's a very tight squeeze. I have a Dell XPS 17'' and there isn't much room, if any. Very comfortable to wear and but feels heavy when not wearing it.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

Bought this during vacation @ B&H New York.
I was looking for a huge back bag to store my 7d with the 70-200 and a few more heavy L-Lenses. Also I also have my two Canon flashlights with me. The wireless trigger system is also stowed inside this bag.
For me it was the only solution to carry this huge amount of equipment with me when heading to a photo tour.
Recommend that, if you know that you can carry this stuff with you for a longer period of time. Keep in mind it do not reduce the weight, but it helps to carry all this stuff much more easily.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

I got this for a trip out west and was very happy with the initial performance. Lots of capacity and it easily held a body, 70-200, 200-500, 17-40, power grip, flash, many accessories and an iPad. The cover for the straps works well to put on but is a little awkward to put away after use. I didn't have any need to test the rain cover.

The main zip is a little stiff but that may be because it provides some water resistance. I plan to work it with some zip lubricant to help with this. The inside was very configurable and I had plenty of storage options.

The pack was comfortable to wear and gear access was easy.

My main recommendation for improvement would be for this bag to have the same capabilities as the flipside bags so that you didn't have to put it down to access the gear.

Bought this bag to carry my equipment when I fly since I don't want to check it or ship it prior. Yes its big but I bought it for that purpose to hold most of the stuff while traveling. Holds a lot of stuff and well built.

Comments about Lowepro Vertex 300 AW Backpack:

I can get almost all of my photographic gear in this pack, including three cameras (one has a 500mm lens), a netbook, a photo viewer, and all assorted accessories. The only thing that doesn't (reasonably) fit is my Bogen studio tripod. So far I've only used about half the pockets......Looks like I'll have to get more Stuff (Hello B&H!)

Fully loaded (about 35 lbs) the pack is not that comfortable to carry long distances, but it's do-able. I also wish LowePro had included a few more velcro/foam dividers in a slightly larger size, and I would like the fuzzy velcro to extend to the bottom and the top of the camera compartment.

Things I really like about it include all the padding, the zipper-tab covers (to keep from scratching equipment), the built-in rain flap, and the cover that turns it from a backpack into a carry-on bag. I like the water-resistant zippers. I like the thoughtfully designed compartments.

This is a well built camera case and I know I will get a lot of use out of it.

Negatives. It weights half the carryon allowance on many carriers and is also too big for international carriers.

I bought it to use in Yellowstone on the back of a snowmobile and for car travel.

The instructions are somewhat brief. I thought they suggested a separate rain cover, but I could not find it. Called Lownenpro and a very nice man called me back within 60 seconds to tell me that it is nicely hidden in a pocket below the harness.

I use this bag as a primary storage for my gear. This bag holds the following:

                              Canon 5D Mark II
                              16-35mm 2.8 II
                              24mm 1.4 II
                              35mm 1.4
                              50mm 1.4
                              65mm MPE macro
                              135mm 2.0
                              580ex II flash
                              Røde videomic
                              Apple Ipad
3x Gape extream memory card cases
                              2x PocketWizards

Along with chargers, batteries, cables, flash defuser/dome and a flash filterset this all fits inside the bag. I can with comfort strap a travel manfrotto 3pod and light stand to the bag.

I have been walking around with the bag for the past week, fits very well on my back (I'm 5'10 / 178cm strong built), the strap system destributes weight were well.

Right now I am only using the lap top compartment for my Ipad, my concern is that when I have my 17" laptop down there, its weight on the outside lid of the bag will pull down on my shoulders. If the laptop compartment would have been placed up against the back, it would destribute weight much better compared to the current design.

Very spacious and well designed bag made out of strong and durable material. I did allot of searching for a bag that would fit all my gear, protect it, could have in carry on during flights, comfirtable, and would last for a long time. This bag delivers on everything I need from a backpack.
