I bought this to try to use on a microphone boom stand to mount a slave flash. Works great as long as the stand does not have a flange that is larger in diameter than the tubing of the boom. One of my stands has such a flange and one does not, so it only works with one of them. Just unscrew the lock ring from the threads on the boom and this fits perfectly. Nicely built unit for good price that will work on some microphone stands.

I ordered this product to hold a 580EX II as a hair light. I was looking for something on the cheap side that would do a decent job. The product picture is a little deceptive because the knobs on the one I received are more sturdy than they appear in the image.

This adapter to hold a hot-shoe flash on a lighting stand is simple and solid. Large plastic grips lock the adapter to the stand, and adjust the angle of the hot shoe. The hot shoe is metal, but the bottom is recessed so as not to interfere with the electronic connections on the bottom of the flash. A smaller thumb screw keeps the flash reasonably secure. This is one of those inexpensive and handy tools that you will use again and again.

Just wanted to reiterate another review that this indeed does work w/ mic stands if you can take the locking ring off. I have a ton of mic stands so this is like getting a flash stand for cheap.
The part that attaches to the stand is hard plastic as are the knobs. Everything else is metal. The build is solid. For the price it's definitely worth it.

Excellent and useful piece of gear. Not only is it great for mounting lights using the shoe, I removed the shoe and attached a small miniDV camera -- which was attached to a c-stand for an overhead (bird's eye) view of a piano keyboard. Very adjustable. The only thing that would make this better would be a small knob for removing the shoe, which I added.

I use this mainly for outdoor shots and it stays on my 430ex almost always. It's small light and really easy to use. Adjustability is easy and straight forward. It also has a small screw that keeps the flash on the stand no matter the conditions. Neat little feature. My only gripe about this product is that I would like a place to mount an umbrella, but than again they have seperate products for that.
