These tips work well on a variety of surfaces, indoors and out. If you have a Gitzo pod, as I do (3540), you might need an extra set of these, because they show an amazing propensity to remove themselves in the field. For outdoors use, the fine adjustability afforded by the thread is completely unnecessary, so you could just use a medium-weight thread locking compound and not have to carry spares. I used the new tripod for a month in the field, and lost a tip 4 times! I only recovered a tip twice, so I ended the trip with two tips missing, and the screw holes full of mud. I'll buy another set, but lock-tite the threads.

One of mine is at the bottom of a stream near Crested Butte, Colorado. I wish they didn't loosen up, but they seem to. I now check them regularly for loosening, and have the two replacement feet left to rely on just in case. The gitzo tripod is incredible....but I'd like to see a longer screw shank on the rubber feet. I'm just glad they have replacements at a decent price.

During my first outing with my Gitzo GT2531 Carbon Fiber Tripod, I lost one of the leg tips. Luckily, the tips from another tripod also fit. I finally got the real replacements and they work great. Just make sure to TIGHTEN them.

Somehow on my last photowalk one of the original Rubber leg tips on my Gitzo Basalt Tripod came loose and was lost forever. I did not want to damage the plastic end of the leg, so I did not use the tripod for the rest of the walk. It is a good idea to have spares like this, glad they came in a package of three. They fit just like the original, now if I can just keep them tight.

I ordered these as replacements for the lost tips on my Gitzo 3541, they were a perfect fit. It is good to keep a spare set with you in your gear bag if you do a lot of wildlife or nature photography. I find they tend to loosen up by bouncing around in the truck and the expansion/contraction from temperature extremes (Sometimes my tripod goes from -20 to 70 when I put it back in the truck).

Wish a set of these was included in the original package with tripod. New ones seem to fit much more snuggly than the original.
Recommendation would be to buy these at the time of tripod purchase, because losing one in the middle of a shoot is a pain.

It can be easy to lose the rubber feet on Gitzo tripods since they screw in and the user has to twist the legs to extend them and in the process the feet can come loose. So it is important to check them periodically to be sure they are tight. Since users may want to use other feet like snow and ice feet, it is necessary to be able to remove the feet.
It is a good idea to keep spares on hand to prevent damage to the trod leg.

Although I am a bit bombed how easy the tip came loose on the tripod itself, considering how much I paid for the tripod and only had it for less than a month before the tip was lost. One of mine is at the bottom of a stream near Crested Butte, Colorado. I wish they didn't loosen up, but they seem to. I now check them regularly for loosening, and have the two replacement feet left to rely on just in case.
