Comments about Giottos MH-3300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-550C Camera Platform:

Will hold steady under a heavy combination.
My combination 40D with 24-70L and B+W Uv filter and sometimes on top of my Uv filter I might put the B+W CPL.
      Excellent for long exposures.

      An incredible value

      By Bill Porter

Comments about Giottos MH-3300 Pro Series II Ballhead with MH-550C Camera Platform:

I was looking for a capable but not-too-heavy ballhead formy Gitzo G1257 graphite tripod, that I use whenbackpacking, to support my 4x5 Crown Graphic. I had beendoing without a head of any kind, just using the leg-lengthadjustments to aim the camera, but this became tedious, wasonly good for landscapes, and pretty much eliminated anyreasonable adjustments for close-up/macro work. I finallybit the bullet and researched heads, wanting something thatweighed about 2# or less, had a good design, and didn't cost$200+ (for about $400 there are a number of very goodballheads out there.) I was surprised to find the GiottosMH-3300 for about $140, and a few reviews gave it stellarmarks. A trip to my local Calumets gave me some insight intoGiottos quality, but they didn't have the 3300 & good thing, because I would've bought it on the spot, thus paying salestax on an inflated price, and robbing my favorite camerastore (you guessed it: B&H) of more of my business. Anyway, the ballhead is a gem, very fine fit and finish, greatadjustments, perfectly fits my Gitzo, and is more thancapable of holding the Graphic as solid as a rock. Thedesign is well-thought out; when the clamp knob is to theleft, the large 90 degree cut-out is opposite thephotographer: this makes it very easy to aim the camera downat an angle with the right hand and adjust the clamp withthe left; funny, that's just the way I prefer. The ball is aperfect size, and the 550C round platform is big enough forview camera bases. The ballhead with the tripod is lightenough for backpacking or hiking but is a very sturdy combo. No wobbles!!

      Expertise: Very experienced amateur
